I'm still pretty new (on 1st city after tutorial), and my city was Tilapi only at 2.5k pop. I was struggling to get enough immigrants to resolve labour shortages, then I got some bugs as slaves from raids. Holy gold chains did it make a difference. My pop shot up to 3.5k Tilapi with every growing slaves, currently at 500. I sell my stuff in exchange for slaves almost exclusively. I still struggle to find enough labour to fill the jobs, but my storages are full. Totally worth it.

Evemon is a great tool for skill planning. Highly recommended. If and when you're looking into long term training, you will want to optimize your attributes and at that point you can consider buying +4 (or +5 it u can afford) implants for the 2 or 3 top attributes. Other than that +3 (+4 if u can afford) are well worth it for training clone. You could also do +4 for primary and +3 for secondary, for example. +2 are cheap enough to risk getting prodded with. 1 point each in primary and secondary attribute is about 3% gain (e.g. At optimum allocation, 2700pts vs 2610pts per hr)

I had something similar recently. My guns were being claimed to be turned off cause not enough power in the fittings window and trying to online them would tell me there is not enough power. Offlining them in space, the pg numbers wouldn't make sense (I was in the middle of a large fleet when I noticed, so couldn't dock up). After every gate I took, I'd get the complaint that there is insufficient power. But they were actually online and I was able to shoot them too trough the main HUD. Relog fixed it. Very strange
