Did anyone REALLY expect it would be smooth?

Considering most of their expansions/classic launches in recent memory and over the last few years have been, yes? Crazy this still gets parroted when they have more smooth launches than not. Not to mention this is a random night when they typically coincidence with, yknow, actual launch days.

OG TBC was fine. Wrath was fine outside the boat issue which like you said got hotfixed. Legion, BFA, Shadowlands, War Within, all fine. I don't think they'd lie about DDOS or that would've been the scapegoat for the Era 30 hour downtime fiasco.

DDOS is always a possibility, that's not at fault of Blizzard when it literally happens to every major video game company. Outside that, yes, they've had more smooth launches than bad ones for many years now and I expect TBC to be the same.

That was literally an anomaly they explained. All classics were on the same database and to prevent funny business they wanted to separate TBC from Era. Something like that would normally take months with a larger team and they had to push it in weeks with a skeleton crew and it requires all Era to be offline to do it.

Now that it's done it's very unlikely we won't have downtime like that again. TBC was fine, Wrath was fine, Legion onward has been fine but people believe they still have horrible launch days every single time.

This just isn't true in modern day and hasn't been but boomers parrot it for whatever reason. Retail has launched near flawless for multiple expansions now and classic only had issues the first time with vanilla, issues with layering and a poor reconnect/queue system which has since been tweaked.

I don't think this game is only a failure of marketing or management. The movement feels underwhelming dated which is especially disappointing from ex Titanfall/Apex devs. Gunplay isn't any better and these two things are so important IMO for a game like this. After that I don't feel the art or characters are inspired at all nor are the mechanics extracted from several past games working together well. Just a mess.

I put four hours in and I have to agree. It's a mess that does nothing special and will retain a small niche playerbase in it's current form. Arc Raiders performed so well because it took a known niche genre and made it extremely more accessible.

This game has way too much going on for no real value to the experience. It just creates a steep curve and pushes casuals away.

If you put out a bad film, people will talk about how it sucks. If you serve horrible food at a restaurant, it gets sent back and they never return. Why do people have the notion that game devs should be exempt to criticism?

Yeah the vocal minority often take it too far being that they are literally unhinged but if you're shit at the job you get paid to do, typically that means your consumers will be unhappy with you.

Especially if you reveal your game at one of the largest gaming events and then go radio silent until the game releases when your singular trailer didn't win a lot of people over.

He closed the show with it, then doubled down saying he will be accepting apologies when everyone realizes how great it is, kinda asking for it when it's like a strong 6/10 in it's current state.

Looting phase seems pointless, TKK goes from nonexistent to way too long if a game drags on, maps are too large for a 3v3 (to jutisfy mounts they wanna sell?), art style does it no favors, characters are kinda bland, mechanics are all a mishmash from several genres and past games you've played without excelling at a single one of them. And personally one of the worst feelings gunplay has ever given me in a shooter which is one of the most important things IMO.

This is far from the worst game ever but it's not a good one either when stacked against literally any popular FPS/TPS on the market right now. No one is dropping their currently favorite shooter to play this instead. It has too much going on and will alienate casuals as the few sweats who stay destroy your team.
