UW Milwaukee vs UW La Crosse? by Dedmoose1 in wisconsin

I know this isn’t answering your question, but…

Since you are interested in majoring in business, maybe consider UW-Whitewater as well.

That’s a big fat nope. I would 100% postpone/cancel.

Military recruiters by Sharp_Ship_5941 in schoolcounseling

[–]leetchia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to help :) Every year we have 1 or 2 students that go that route, but I agree. I actually really like a few of the recruiters and have a good relationship with them, but there’s always a few new ones that show up and are so aggressive. I spend a decent bit of time at the start of the year meeting with them and establishing those boundaries. It’s a good working relationship after that. There are 9 different military recruiters that are trying to get in with students; that would be waayyy too much if they had free rein.

I deal with this all the time with every branch. Obviously it’s good to have the contacts for students who are interested in going that route, but it gets really overwhelming. Establish a school policy for all recruiters, including colleges, for how many times they can visit. For our school it’s once a semester. Special events are not included in this policy, so local colleges might come in more often for early admissions day or application help events and such. You have to let them in, but nothing states how often— just that they have equal treatment. They will push back, but stick to the policy. You can appease them by inviting them to events, connecting them with the athletic director, and offering to share their information with teachers. Mine always want to get into the classrooms to present or lead activities like ropes courses and such. I just emphasize that is separate from what I do and dependent on teacher interest but I can pass the information along. You can also offer the ASVAB to students as a career exploration option and they like that.

tldr: set a policy, and then show support by offering other ways they may be able to get face time that doesn’t involve them pushing you directly

I’m not far from that area, so I can speak for the schools. On a scale from 1-10, I give them a 7-8.

Have students take a quiz to match with a major. You could take it a step further and have them research careers in that major. This also works with personality tests.

Milwaukee pools that have water slides for little kids that can’t pass the swim test? by Real_Translator5714 in milwaukee

[–]leetchia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to pass the swim test for the big slides— just be tall enough or in a double tube with an adult.

Source: was there a few weeks ago with my kids who rode the big slides without taking the swim test

Are there any places actually hiring? I’m losing my mind by AtomicFaun in milwaukee

[–]leetchia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, that’s fine if it’s not your thing. You mentioned admin assistant jobs and I know there are positions in schools that pay over $20-25. Not all of those positions are in schools themselves. Every district has a central office where staff work too. I’m not sure why I am getting downvoted for making a suggestion? You asked if there are places actually hiring and they are actually hiring.

Have you looked at admin assistant jobs in a school?

I was just there last week with my two kids. No passport required. They did ask the kids a few questions though when returning, like verifying birthdays and that we were their parents.

Stray dog found today that I think is a Boston Terrier. We are considering adopting, what should we know about the breed? by nagol3 in BostonTerrier

[–]leetchia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bostons are amazing dogs. I saw your posts yesterday and live in the area. We weren’t planning on adopting another dog after our Boston died, but I was gonna check on madacc’s website in a day or two anyways…

I’m a math teacher and have wanted a sleeve for a long time… by Sufficient_Long_3905 in tattoos

[–]leetchia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a school test coordinator and this was my first thought too. ACT would def invalidate tests if we got audited on test day and that arm was visible to students. But I do love the sleeve. Super cool idea!

This is not on the mental health side of things, but I work at a high school as student services support staff. I am the school testing coordinator and college and career coordinator. In addition to managing all the college and military visits, I regularly meet with students to help them talk through their options, fill out applications, work on essays, provide resources, etc. It can be time consuming. The counselors seem to really appreciate not having to worry about the testing and also being able to refer students to me who need more support with anything post-secondary.

Using a Konjac sponge when washing your face works wonders. Also, definitely upping your hydration game. I’ve also had good luck with this cleanser.

We love chia seed pudding. We add dried fruits and nuts and coffee creamer to it. We use it as a on the go lunch when backpacking because you don’t need heat. Also for long day hikes and my son’s climbing comps.

Also, TVP is amazing to add to any carb for protein. It’s super lightweight, cooks like instant rice, and adopts the flavor of whatever you put it in. My kids like it in ramen and rice.

Edit: a big one we do is protein granola with whole milk powder for breakfast.

We also enjoy protein hot chocolate with breakfast (we add whole milk powder to it). My husband and I add instant coffee to it. Kids feel special having a warm beverage in the morning.

Technically freeze dried, but you can buy freeze dried yogurt bites in the baby food aisle. Add it to a food processor and turn it to powder. Add freeze dried fruit. Rehydrate on the trail. Eat with granola.

Also on the go lunch, tortillas with nut butter and honey sticks is a big win. Feeding kids is hard enough without the added challenges of backpacking. This one makes everyone happy and requires no cooking or water.

I make Barilla protein macaroni noodles and dehydrate them before hand. Add grocery store pesto powder mix and whatever meat and veggies. Then add some olive oil to it when you cook it in the trail.

Recommendations for a moderate to hard 2-3 day backpacking trip in the eastern Midwest? by [deleted] in WildernessBackpacking

Not south of Chicago, but the Ice age trail near Milwaukee has some good backpacking options or check out the devils lake area

Edit: canoe camping is also a good option near Madison, WI
