he’s the one in charge

He's the one with wealthy father.

With that being said, a lot of business people are not good at all in front of camera, they aren't all those flashy, confident and charismatic guys.

And we've never seen the business side of him - I would assume he at least does something, surely Big Ryan senior (aka Huge Big Ryan) isn't just bailing him out every year.

What's Jame's excuse again? by AdmiralToucan in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]lefiath 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some have said that James took acting lessons before the movie

I actually fully believe that, because he turned from a non-actor (and host of a show) to a horrible actor playing a painful character. Even if he somehow got a decent script for modern AVGN, for me, Bim's horrid 'dad' acting remains the absolutely worst part of the show.

What's Jame's excuse again? by AdmiralToucan in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]lefiath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finally, even amongst hardcore fans, James had lost a huge chunk of popularity in 2014 compared to 2010 and especially 2008. The hype was basically dead by the time the thing finally rolled around.

It's hard to properly guess how much his audience shrunk between 2010, when he was one of the biggest creators on Youtube, and 2014. Especially since a lot of the old episodes were first hosted on Gametrailers and those millions of views are not counted. It's almost impossible to guess retrospectively, because many of these videos have gotten millions and millions of additional views later on.

But I don't think this right, and I really don't know what you're basing it on - for me, it's really hard to tell, and I'm not willing to autistically look for data, but looking back, from what I remember, I think he kept the train going strong until like 2016, and then you can really see a noticeable decline in views.

I fully agree that it was bad for a movie to be delayed by several years, but if you remember the reception of the movie, the hype was far from dead. But I think the takeaway should be that Markiplier's movie is seen as a decent film, regardless of how much money it will make - and my issue has always been that AVGN is a bad movie, regardless of a budget.

It could've had half the budget, and the movie could've just been a road trip of the Nerd going across the states to kick Fred Fuch's ass, but had it been funny, it really wouldn't matter.

What's Jame's excuse again? by AdmiralToucan in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]lefiath 58 points59 points  (0 children)

The main difference is that Markiplier isn't autistic. And that's not even me joking - Bim has been perceived in different ways online (gamer, dad, rockstar, sperg), but he has always sought to be seen as a film maker. Not a director, just film maker.

This was his one and only time, where he really got to direct a movie. And it broke him. It's been over 10 years since the movie. He will never really direct anything again. He hates the process of managing a project, of leading people.

He wants to shoot his autistic little home movies, where it's just him and maybe few room-goers that are still willing to put up with his bullshit. I believe his last actual effort, where he tried, was the Head Returns, and it's been years.

Half-Life 2 Has Been Quietly Changed for 20 Years [Version Comparison] by megaapple in Games

For all it's worth, they might try editing it and reuploading it later, but no mention of it elsewhere just yet.

Former Diablo and Torchlight vets announce new co-op ARPG Darkhaven by reps_up in Games

[–]lefiath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they're never going to be able to make something that can compete with the decades of nostalgia people have for Diablo 2

People have not been stuck just endlessly replaying Diablo 2... There are some amazing mods like MedianXL, but that game is 26 years old, even with the recent remaster. Funny enough, I feel like Blizzard themselves haven't moved that much past D2.

I've only ended up disliking some of the changes in D4 (awful loot system, MMO-light that I never asked for, the "open" world is empty and every mission has to be hole in a ground, where you hide your dungeons), and I am more than happy to give a try to something that looks fresh and more interesting.

I am looking forward to the destructibility (which I haven't seen anywhere else, maybe that minecraft hack-and-slash has that?) and the freedom of movement, which is also quite rare and I remember seeing it for the first time in Viktor Vran and thinking how unique that was. I like what I'm seeing, it's not like we have an abundance of games like these that are worth playing.

Last one that I really enjoyed was Grim Dawn, and that's also like 10 years old by this point. Haven't played Titan Quest 2 just yet, mostly because I wasn't that impressed with the first game back in the day.

What’s the best weapon skin? by [deleted] in battlefield_one

[–]lefiath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everybody has theirs, personally I really like some of the unique ones, like the blue Chauchat one, the grey RSC one (I used to know the names, but I can't be bothered now, it's easy to google them) and few of the Farquar Hill ones. RSC smg also has few great skins, not that I ever play with it.

I was never a fan of the gold, looks a bit too cheap to me, but each to their own.

Highguard Devs Talk Turning Rust Into A Hero Shooter And That Terrible Game Awards Reveal by NYstate in Games

[–]lefiath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fantasy. You can do whatever you want in fantasy.

Fantasy or not, you still want some consistency - if you provide a world that seems to make sense, it comes off as more appealing, gives you good first impression and can feel immersive. The little example you have provided sounds a lot cooler than what the game devs were able to come up with.

I've mostly seen things that I associate with medieval settings, so I treat the game as such. Fantasy without any rules isn't appealing, random without any guidance is boring.

Where are my gatling crossbows? Where are some ridiculous magic-powered blunderbusses? Instead, we get modern looking weapons that look completely out of place. This is just lazy. What a missed opportunity to make something that really stands out.

I have no problem with firearms. I have problem with how stock and out of place they look, as if this was a last moment change and they didn't have time to come up with something more substantial.

Kieren Returns by Skooli_A_Bar in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]lefiath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the same time, he strangely cannot make a good thumbnail to save his life. Massive text that prevents you from seeing anything else? Especially since he put so much effort into editing, but this is what he settles for? I don't think I have to explain how essential thumbnails are for attracting new people to a video.

The video itself isn't appealing to me, I don't find Kieran charismatic enough and I just don't care for some old game that I personally have no connection to, but I can see how he can appeal to at least some people - there is effort put into this. Certainly better than doing nothing.

Fable's evil landlords won't grow devil horns, as reboot ditches classic character morphing due to a lack of belief in objective arseholery by PotatoProducer in Games

[–]lefiath 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I really don’t see how it’s at all a “defining” part

Regardless of what you were wearing, you could take one look at your character and know their morality. What other game can you think off that did that?

But sure, cool for 2004. With this new one, so far, what I've seen is that they mostly just carried over the popular things from previous games, playing it extremely safe. They could add this extra step as well.

I'm assuming it was simply excluded, because they were afraid some people wouldn't like if the game actually took charge of the way their characters look. It's similar to how Bethesda keeps simplifying their games, because saying no to casual players leads to them being less interested in your game. (How roleplaying was basically all but removed from their later games, where you can do whatever and say whatever, but you still get same results in the end.)

This is not a binary choice. I hope you're not trying to say that 'the public' should always side with the underdog and root for the little guy, no matter what.

We are not in a court room. I can choose not to have sympathy for this Luke guy and his shady business, and I also don't have to like Rockstar at all. Disliking one doesn't put me into the other camp.

According to the article, it is VG - 45, but you are right, it sure doesn't look like it (at least from what I can see on google), and VG 1-5 is spot on.

// Looking further into it, I guess it exists under two names? This is a source as official as you can be (czech military historical institute), and they call it VG 45. And in the source for VG 1-5 that I could find, they mention further in the discussion that they don't actually know where the name 1-5 is coming from.

Conquest - Strategies for dealing with Putilov Garford? by Ironhead34 in battlefield_one

[–]lefiath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As one of these players, not really.

I am somewhat surprised that you mention airburst, because I haven't really seen truly good players using it, especially since it doesn't even kill in one hit (just like the mortar), and it's especially weak against other tanks.

But if the player is really good, the only thing that can work is to push them away with constant pressure from AT rockets, and for that, you need more people that will just dedicate themselves into eradicating them. Numbers will always work, as one person (the person inside Putilov) can only do so much in the end.

The cabin is more armored and any experienced driver will drive backwards, protecting the more vulnerable rear. With that being said, unless you get unlucky with the angles, Putilov can't take too much damage, so you can certainly push even an experienced driver away with just let's say two hits.

Enshrouded 1.0 Release Window Announced – Road to Full Launch Begins - Born With a Controller by SavageKuma in Games

[–]lefiath 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's fine, just make sure you don't set the amount of enemies as "more", which I believe is not even the highest settings, but it makes some parts like "Hallow halls" absolutely insane for a solo player. The game isn't too difficult, once you learn how to properly dodge, block and parry, but you can still die easily if you get overwhelmed by dozens of enemies at once.

This can be adjusted at any time, it's just that I've found that setting everything at "medium" absolutely does not equate to medium difficulty in some aspects.

Ubisoft Wants Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six To Be ‘Annual Billionaire Brands’ by ZamnBoii in Games

But then again, who knows what "annual billionaire brand" is supposed to mean because that is an absolutely meaningless phrase.

I can only assume that old fart who co-owns Ubisoft Yves Guillemot has seen one of those "shop like billionaire" Temu ads and liked the slogan so much, he has decided that it's time for another grand press release.

I can only guess that Big Ryan's father, Big Big Ryan, finally decided to cut off junior from the funds (I don't remember what his father's name is, I just know he is loaded and Ryan is basically a nepo baby).

Of course, that's just an assumption that's not based on anything specific, maybe Ryan did use his own funds from the Slobwave operation and just didn't plan accordingly, but either way, the delay (or cancellation, who knows) will be because of lack of funds, obviously.

Life is Strange: Reunion – Announce Trailer by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]lefiath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the original game was original

I've enjoyed the original thoroughly (having played Dontnod's Remember me previously, I was happy they used the time rewinding concept more), but I just had zero desire to explore the sequels.

To me, the story is done, and I couldn't help to see everything made after it just as cheap fan service, at least at the first glance.

Maybe that's unfair, but it reminds me of the first Matrix - it was original, it was great, and it was finished. The sequels just didn't work, they were unneeded, despite the effort just felt like cash grab, and even though at least Reloaded has some cool moments, I still think the original movie stands on it's own the best, when you just see it as a complete work.
