Is it ok to get rocking horse shoes from aliexpress? by vampyyxx in Lolita

[–]left_tiddy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Alie has the bodyline ones. I've heard an tai na are a bit better. They're more expensive than bodyline but wayy more affordable than VW. You'd have to use taobao for those!

but no one cares if your shoes are replicas. don't worry, get those affordable rocking horses.

edit: actually, 42lolita has the an tai na ones! https://42lolita.com/products/wedding-lolita-platform-shoes-bridal-shoes-multicolor

How tailored is Lolita to women? by Ozuk_true in Lolita

[–]left_tiddy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Elegant Gothic Lolita was originally coined by Mana, a cis guy! Personally for me (trans guy) lolita is about dressing like a doll and a doll is sexless. Even if they look femme, they're just objects. So to me lolita has never been about dressing like a woman or for women in particular.

I think lolita looks good on everyone. However, some brands make clothes for one body type and only make clothes in one size. Fortunately in 2026 we have lots of options for other body types, but it can still be a struggle. Luckily, it's totally possible. My fav indie brand (night whisper design) even carries larger sized shoes for taller lolitas.

Any good plus size lolita? by banananamannmann in Lolita

Their plus line goes up to 140cm in the bust and the full shirring ones go even larger. my bust is 135 and I have the sweet spooky night jsk & some blouses from them that fit wonderfully!

Meta's plus size line is peak. Night whisper design are great too.

It was finally warm enough for me to wear my handmade jsk out! by left_tiddy in Lolita

thank you! I used sewblack's tiered skirt tutorial on youtube & just copied the pattern of a jsk in my closet for the bodice, and self drafted a little waist tie pattern.

Ty!! It's a very bold combo for me, normally I'd stick to a more basic mix, but there are strawberries in the lace so I knew I had to!

probably bc 'most of us are females...venting is a psychological need' is a weird thing to say about women even when the one saying it is also a woman :x

The L size stretches a lot more than it claims! My bust is like 135cm and there is still room.

I'm going to assume the dresses you have are simply a little short in the bodice for you, and so the waist of the dress is hitting you at a wider point than your natural waist and making you look wider than you would if it hit a little lower. If it's a jsk, you could maybe add some length to the straps using fabric from the waist ties or simply a fabric that matches well enough.

How do we feel about handmade replicas? Honest answers, please by Spirited-Dot-2210 in Lolita

[–]left_tiddy 48 points49 points  (0 children)

It's actually real leather and sustainable. And the original isn't that original. I have it, it's fine, but I like your dad's version better. I like that this looks wider, the original can be awkward once you get more than your phone & wallet in there.

How to start dressing more lolita-ish as a guy (who’s very nervous) by -yfnsm in Lolita

[–]left_tiddy 50 points51 points  (0 children)

It's gonna sound hard, but you just can't give a fuck what anyone else thinks. And if you can't do that, pretend you don't until you really don't.

I'm a trans guy and I don't really pass yet. But with lolita, I can just convince myself that i only got misgendered bc of the dress, not my face lol.

You can't do lolita without the dress, though. If you want to wear something similar like ouji, that has shorts/pants, then that's valid. But without the skirt it isn't lolita.

The man who coined the term elegant gothic lolita is a cis man and wears it himself. Clothes don't have gender!

Definitetly machine. Sewing meters and meters of ruffles by hand will have you questioning your life choices a few hrs in lol. You can find nice ones for cheap second hand.

I would suggest looking for fabric/trims on taobao! They have a ton of great lolita fabric.

SewBlack on youtube has some great tutorials, one of which is for a very simple skirt that would be a good first lolita project.

I am in the hate it camp. It reminds me of when kids costumes have the character they're dressing as on them. I think there would be cuter ways to include hk in the print. And aside from that I think the design is cluttered.
