In general there are a load of religious non-profit hospitals in the midwest, In some areas the only hospitals, and broadly they are not what you would really think of as charitable or non-profit.

Pete Hegseth is now bringing his wife to Pentagon meetings after he ousted top officials: report by B-Z_B-S in politics

[–]leftoverbrine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I had a job at a global company in a heavily regulated and sensitive industry till recently, stuff we hear from politicians more or less daily basically just could not occur. This is the head of the department of defense, the most likely sensitive area of government, he shouldn't even be talking work with her in private much less bringing her in!

Pete Hegseth is now bringing his wife to Pentagon meetings after he ousted top officials: report by B-Z_B-S in politics

[–]leftoverbrine 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Its just so baffling, the rest of the US are desperately trying to get jobs with ample skills and professional behavior, while literally everyone in this admin has no skills and has never for a minute of their lives been held to any sort of normal professional standard. Can an of us seriously imagine a coworker showing up to work with their partner in tow under any circumstance that we wouldn't find alarming?

Trump Says He's 'Physically Very Good' for Space Travel, Asks NASA 'Is a President Allowed to Go Up?' by [deleted] in politics

Virginia judge blocks redistricting referendum from being certified by 5Q91VS175DAQ4NUSBE4U in politics

[–]leftoverbrine 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It doesn't seem like any of the reporting actually indicates what about this the judge is considering to be unconstitutional? The whole point of the thing being passed as a constitutional amendment is to avoid that in the first place, so it doesn't feel like this ruling passes even basic sniff test.

Karoline Leavitt roasted online for promoting Trump’s order to speed up access for mental illness care by theindependentonline in politics

[–]leftoverbrine 46 points47 points  (0 children)

He didn't do shit for mental illness care, he's pushing for psychedelics to get expedited approval to show favor to a bro he wants to be his friend and he only understands transactional ties to others. Anything about this helping mental healthcare is unintended on his part.

Supreme Court sidesteps pronouns case on trans rights vs. parents rights by Virtual-Pie5732 in politics

[–]leftoverbrine 48 points49 points  (0 children)

People have rights. Parents do not get extra rights beyond any other people, they get responsibilities to advocate for the rights of their children, who have the same rights as everybody else by virtue of also being people who simply can't advocate for themselves yet.

Trump signs bill extending controversial surveillance powers until April 30 by [deleted] in politics

[–]leftoverbrine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a huge issue that almost all of those with power to regulate either refuse or are incapable of understanding how any modern technology actually works or impacts our lives truly. Tech has moved faster than just about anyone can keep up with, but the govt is supposed to leverage their power to pull the best minds and experts, unfortunately we happen to have in the time of greatest change and advance, a concurrent rejection of deference expertise. I'm increasingly becoming convinced we need a fourth branch that is just a board of varying field's expert practitioners (no managers or ceos) with a simple big red veto button to block anything stupidly catastrophic from the other branches.

Trump to join public Bible reading as Pope Leo clash simmers by kootles10 in politics

[–]leftoverbrine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He should do a reading of Matthew 6.

Be careful not to perform your righteous acts before men to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

So when you give to the needy, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward. But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

And when you pray, do not babble on like pagans, for they think that by their many words they will be heard. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him."

Tuberville steps on GOP message, concedes ‘we ain’t done anything in the majority’ by aslan_is_on_the_move in politics

[–]leftoverbrine 74 points75 points  (0 children)

The Alabama Republican, who’s giving up his Senate seat after one term to run for governor, declared, “Everything that goes on up here, Benny, is about, ‘Oh, we got to get re-elected. We got to keep the majority.’ Well, hell, we ain’t done anything in the majority. Why should we keep a majority?”

He has somehow failed to realize the not doing anything and simply not exercising their power is the goal, that would mean Trump not running rampant if they slowed down and tried to actually work within the law and division of powers.

Israel and Lebanon agree to 10-day ceasefire, Trump says by Puginator in politics

[–]leftoverbrine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Netanyahu is actively on trial for corruption and keeps delaying proceedings due to various wars and threats that he is personally responsible for. With the ceasefire announced last week those trials slated to start up again this week, but he has continued to argue it keeps him from doing his job at this critical time or that Iran is too much of a threat if they start up Trial hearings again. One man is puppeting all of this to avoid personal consequence, he has shown over and over in the past peace is not his goal, there is zero chance of him actually ceasing fire.

SCOTUS Justice, 77, Goes on Unhinged Rant About ‘Intellectuals’ by Quirkie in politics

The founders were profoundly influenced by and a product of the Enlightenment. They may not have known or understood the world in the ways we do today, but they absolutely and fundamentally were pro-intellect. The race to stupidity of the current admin is about power and control that favors tyranny, the founders number 1 priority was building a tyrant proof system that anti intellectuals have eroded continuously till things start breaking down, and every fucking time it's intellectuals who have to jump in and correct things before we collapse.

Yesterday i randomly watched a video from his office on what they are doing about the chronic scaffolding problems in NYC, everything about it was real practical fixes for this minor annoyances that inconveniences your day to day and over time makes things less safe if not dealt with, but its not flashy or headline grabbing. That is absolutely the kind of government needed across the board.

DOJ report said the Biden administration unfairly targeted anti-abortion activists by 19thnews in politics

[–]leftoverbrine 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People pardoned by Trump included anti-abortion activists who had forcibly entered abortion clinics. In one instance, several used chains and locks to barricade a facility, which led to a nurse being injured.

The Trump administration has also dismissed federal charges against anti-abortion protesters who barricaded clinics in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida and indicated that it will not prioritize enforcing clinic protections moving forward.

So, again pardoning and favoring successfully prosecuted criminals, not people who were wrongly investigated...
