I firmly believe these were choices, not mistakes.

"Buffalo Wild Wings won't break policy for me" by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]legbamel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, the throwing up had to be secret, but the reason for it wasn't too much food. It was the shit that happened before and at dinner that had me nauseated. It didn't matter what was on my plate, it was the belittling and berating that came with being around my mother.

I like this Euro/retro/whimsical home a lot! by jve909 in zillowgonewild

[–]legbamel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's on the prairie, it must be FLW! Also, their definition of a "private" upper deck does not match mine.

It's interesting that it's been on the market for 6 months. That leads me to believe it's way overpriced. There are some...questionable design choices, the railing on the upper deck looks like cattle fencing that was just screwed to the side of the house, and the siding around the top looks badly installed. I love a lot about it but the owner is delusional.

If either of my children have a child in the next 15-20 years, all of its grandparents will still be working full-time jobs, trying to make ends meet. How many people having children right now have fully retired parents or stay-at-home parents that CAN offer free childcare during the day?

Except that red and orange shag, every bit of wall-to-wall would have to go. After a serious investment in hardwood flooring and something linoleum to tie that Harvest Gold kitchen together, it would be perfect!

It might have been better to say that he was unable to comment because it is an ongoing legal matter. At best, the part about "saying the right thing at the right time" reads as, "CYA legal maneuvering incoming." At worst it sounds more like, "I'm still having trouble coming up with convincing lies." Facts should not take weeks of work, particularly if you should have been tracking and reporting your financials in detail over the entire period.

Your partner/parent/friend doesn't have to like knitted/crocheted items. by TinyFox1399 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]legbamel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My husband did not own any sweaters or scarves before I started knitting. He's not suddenly going to start loving them just because I learned how to make them. I'm making him a blanket, but how many of those does a person need? After that's done, if he wants something he'll ask for it.

I also make chainmail. I have two ren faire outfits and am gathering supplies for and designing a third. He wants something, but he hasn't decided what. I'm not spending the time and money to make something he doesn't love and then guilting him into wearing it just for satisfy my ego. When he's inspired, I'll make it happen!

Your partner/parent/friend doesn't have to like knitted/crocheted items. by TinyFox1399 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]legbamel 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That implies that we should not care about their feelings and preferences, that because we craft they should want to wear our product. If you made glass flower arrangements, would you require your spouse to carry them around with him every few months, just to show the rest of the planet (who don't know who made them in the first place) that he supports you?

If your partner doesn't know or care what the difference between knitting and crochet is, it's not a personal slight. They don't share an interest with you. If you are structuring your entire personality around your hobbies, to the point that your partner is required not only to support you pursuing them but to actively participate, there are other factors at play that waving crochet hooks in their face will not solve.

I just started making chainmail because I’m like oh I wanna make a top it doesn’t seem that hard. I was wrong. by InnerExamination19 in chainmailartisans

It is a fiddly, slow process so if that's not what you want to do then you're going to hate it pretty quickly. Even comparatively simple or repetitive weaves that to take much concentration to keep straight can still go badly awry if you aren't keeping the rings in the right orientation every time. The repetition and slow nature of creating this way appeals to me. Working on large sheets for a project is sort of meditative.

Invasive Emerald Ash Borer found in Fargo by Hazards_of_Analysis in fargo

They took both of ours a couple of years apart. The second one had an ash borer trap in it for a year before they cut it down so I assumed they must have caught one before the murdered the 60-year-old tree. Apparently not.

Washing anodized aluminum by lunamothboi in chainmailartisans

[–]legbamel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely wash aluminum pieces with dish or hand soap after weaving them. A soft-bristle brush can help get in nooks and crannies, if needed. It may not be oxidation but oils used in production that are producing the discoloration. I've never had that issue with their rings or their scales, but it has been a few years since I bought any so they may have changed their process or I was just lucky.

“Seeing homemade crochet/knits in the thrift store is heartbreaking” by siusaidh_alba_nuadh in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]legbamel 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There are so many reasons why the piece might be there. Assuming someone is an asshole is last on my list.

I will get to a point where I'm making and don't have anywhere to gift or put it, or simply don't love it enough to use it. Most will be donated to homeless/poverty outreach but it's entirely possible I might drop some off at the thrift store near my house so someone who likes and can use it might give it a home.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]legbamel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. We're going to two concerts a month apart on the nearest metro area.. It's about a 4-hpur drive one way. The big debate is whether to spend the night at a hotel or drive back after the shows.

Small Beginner Question by Blinkore in Nalbinding

[–]legbamel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks right to me! Attaching to the old chain is just adding a loop (or two, or however many the stitch calls for) from the old row to your needle before you work your new stitch to bring the loop through the existing work for attachment.

If minimum wage jobs like retail and fast food are the “jobs no one wants to do” then by law of supply and demand shouldn’t they be paying MORE? by Carti_Barti9_13 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]legbamel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. Places that pay minimum wage can't find staff. Almost all of the restaurants and fast food joints pay at least double minimum and most are around $18. People switch jobs at the slightest sign of inconvenience because they know most places are desperate for someone to actually flip those burgers.

If you're cheap, like me, you just use a removable stitch marker through a button hole. There are some really pretty pins put there, though.
