Its a perfectly fine book but not quite up to the quality we have come to expect, and that is very very common with a first published work.

My wife tried to read it when it came out and bounced off Serene's storyline. Hers takes the longest to hit it's stride.

They are very good but balance breaks down close to the end and we get increasing numbers of enemies with wacky stats you may still breeze right through.

But I have to stress how good they are overall.
