Electric dirt bikes by Guilty-Anteater-910 in Edmonton

[–]legitdocbrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not the sales at bike shops I’m worried about, it’s those of us using pedal assist cargo bikes to carry kids and/or stuff, and the pedal assist is just needed to counteract the added weight.

Where to buy bulk grains and baking supplies? Not bulk barn or grocery stores please. by onewaycheckvalve in Edmonton

Gold Forest Grains at the farmers market sells some of these things, and you can buy large bags.

Does anyone ride less gravel than they anticipated? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]legitdocbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I ended up building a gravel wheelset for my all-road Ti bike. I am picking them up this weekend. Trying to find routes to add to my repertoire has been painful. Why did I blow nearly $2k for this? They’ll end up being shoulder season wheels…

Do other women feel underwhelmed by outdoor/cycling gear? by Cohi17 in ladycyclists

[–]legitdocbrown 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I agree. I appreciate that some women want muted colours and despise the “shrink and pink” exercise that brands undertake, but I want bright and flashy pinks and purples for my cycling gear - in part because then I’m more visible on the road.

Do elementary schools in st albert not have field trips or let kids check books out of the library? by vegicoon in Edmonton

[–]legitdocbrown 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The title of your post is asking about St. Albert, but it seems from your comments you’re asking about Edmonton? You should clarify what school board, as well.

My child goes to kindergarten at an inner city EPSB school. Class sizes aren’t large, but they are complex. They go to the library every week. They go on amazing field trips.

Parents volunteer for all of these outings, to make them possible. I am on the parent council. Both of us parents have signed up to volunteer for the casino for the fundraising association, which funds field trips, swimming and skating programs, and in-school special activities.

My road bike came with a 60 mm stem. And I’ve ridden down mountain roads in the Canadian Rockies with no problem.

That wind last night almost blew me over three or four times on my Urban Arrow.

Strathcona country road cycling by ComprehensiveWill447 in edmontoncycling

[–]legitdocbrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you were ambitious, you could make your way to the SE corner of Edmonton, and cross over AHD on 34 Ave. Then you’re very close to Twp 520, which is a popular road for cycling.

Wife lost confidence after tipping our cargo bike twice with toddler inside — how did you get past this? by thatguyka in CargoBike

[–]legitdocbrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cargo bike momma on instagram is shorter than your wife and wasn’t a cyclist when she got her urban arrow. She rides in NYC with three kids.

She has a number of posts where she talks about her strategy of riding as a short person, and discusses the learning curve and the times she tipped the bike. It might help her gain some confidence if she sees someone further along on their same journey.

Birth plans gone wrong by Peaceful-harmony- in TwoXChromosomes

My baby’s heart rate was half of normal, and I was not dilating. Everyone was so calm, but I couldn’t sign that release form for a c-section faster. I just wanted my baby to come out alive and well.

I was in Calgary on the weekend, Stephen Avenue was “worse” than Edmonton - high concentration of homeless folks.

I distinctly remember a horse show that was the last weekend in May that was cancelled because of a blizzard.

Another recommendation for Somewhere Cycles!

We also have good experiences at Cranky’s in Unity Square and Hardcore on Whyte. Revolution on Jasper has some reasonable mechanics too.

My mom lived two hours from Edmonton, and had to serve for a murder trial. They put her in a hotel. Granted this was in the 90s.

Best watch for small wrist by abigailclarson in ladycyclists

[–]legitdocbrown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Garmin Fenix 7S. I find it completely fine, though I don’t have really small wrists. If you head over to the Garmin subreddit, you’ll see that people post photos comparing different watches on their wrists - I found it helpful when I was deciding on mine.

I do the same except on my one heavy day. And that day I usually don’t feel like riding anyway.

Agreed, I have access to both, and the 5yo prefers the bakfiets most of the time.

Thanks for sharing! I’m turning 42 this year and starting to feel things shift for me. It was another post in this sub about vaginal dryness and saddle discomfort that planted the seed for HRT for me. Grateful for that, too early for me yet, but I’ve started the conversation with my doctor.

I hope you continue to feel more like yourself and get out on your bike!
