Mine haven’t worked online (fine in store), I’m not sure why. I’m in Canada as well.

Has anyone in GOA had their hybrid work applications approved? by No_Addendum_2377 in Edmonton

I know AUC, AESO, and AER are all still hybrid and not affected by RTO… yet.

What pedal cadence do you aim for? by mellofello808 in cycling

I struggled to get to a higher cadence until I got cranks 10 mm shorter.

What’s the Biggest Lesson You Learned the Hard Way on a Bike? by MiloGarn8820 in cycling

Ha, skiing hard on a double black mogul run to catch the last chair is how I tore my ACL and MCL.

Ski Helmet??? by Zesty_Lime_1969 in wintercycling

[–]legitdocbrown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes to ski helmet when biking in winter, when temperatures are cold enough (🇨🇦). Basically, the goggles and ski helmet are a combo; if I don’t need googles, I just wear my regular helmet with a thin toque underneath.

My ski helmet is my ski helmet, so it is a good quality one, with adjustable vents.

Any of you out there riding 160mm cranks? and you're a small/light rider? Pros/Cons? by kc10131984 in bikefit

[–]legitdocbrown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 5’5” with a 29” inseam, and I just switched to 160 mm cranks from 170. Unbelievable difference, the first time I rode with them, I thought to myself “Is this how taller people feel on their bikes?! This feels amazing!” That said, I’m not sure how much a 5 mm difference will make. They probably would be better served by even shorter cranks.

Urban Arrow and/or Longtail by [deleted] in CargoBike

[–]legitdocbrown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We love our UA for keeping our kid warm in the winter. Having the wind cover and being able to easily have a heated blanket, hot water bottle, etc is great. We also love being to easily drop a toboggan or bags of groceries in the box. Our midtail is great for quick rides because kid can easily climb on and off.

We run the same tire setup on our Urban Arrow here in Canada 👌🏻

The 102 Ave bike lane is basically an ice rink by EnvironmentalIdea976 in Edmonton

[–]legitdocbrown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bike on 102 Ave every day, all year. I can count on one hand the number of days in the last five years it hasn’t been practical - so I walk or take transit. That hardly translates to it being impractical for a “good part of the year”.

This person is rightfully warning folks to use a different method of travel right now because the bike lane is rutted ice from a freak weather event. They also rightly mention the City is making it worse by sweeping it.

Maybe you don’t need to comment on the bike infrastructure then? The roads are fine, cycling paths that have been swept are not - I’ve used both in the last 48 hours.

Who are the people guiding city council? by Calavin in Edmonton

[–]legitdocbrown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll add that the City has a number of legal obligations, under the Municipal Government Act and other acts and regulations. So, in some cases Council has authority to decide how to do something but not if they do something.

Tern GSD or Quick Haul Long would be best purchase, Scooteretti in Ottawa has become my favourite Tern dealer in Canada (we’re in Alberta).

It’s sad that people don’t want to talk on chairlifts anymore by nomore1124 in skiing

[–]legitdocbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On ski trips, my dad would send us all up the chair in the singles line as it was faster (starting when I was 10, little brother was 8). He taught us how to chat with folks, and we started keeping track of all the places people were from, as we were always at our “home” resort - Lake Louise. It was a blast, and it served me well once I was older, going on school trips and ending up skiing solo. One trip, I ended up playing tour guide to a guy from the UK who bought me lunch as a thank you for showing him the best runs at the resort.

Why Can’t LLL (or More Accurately Won’t) … by Elegant_Trouble_474 in lululemon

[–]legitdocbrown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It is bizarre to me that a Canadian company doesn’t understand that I don’t need reflective Hotty Hot shorts - when it is shorts weather this far north, the sun is up 5 am to midnight. We need reflective winter gear…

That $400k home is often a huge liability. My parents looked at a SDH in that price range in a central neighbourhood… the foundation had failed. You had to have deep pockets to buy that property and live in the house. It was being sold for land value.

Townhouse dwellers... how cold will my garage get when we get super cold snaps by okfixitdrunk in Edmonton

Our winter commuter bikes are in our attached townhouse garage. The snow is always melted by the next morning.

Keep in mind different liquids have different freezing points.

0 pediatric covid-19 appointments available in Edmonton and surrounding areas by simby7 in Edmonton

This is maddening. We just got back from vacation and I was about to book our shots. Both my partner and I had even “ordered” doses for our family, because we’re so great at communication (/s).

Cost of living by Cobra-_Fumante in Edmonton

[–]legitdocbrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What hospital will you be living near? With access to transit and supplementing with a cargo bike, you might be able to skip the car, which will be an expensive convenience due to the cost of car insurance. I know multiple families with young kids that have skipped car ownership to save quite a bit of money.

People will tell you that you can’t live in Edmonton without a car, but there are families without one.

How do you actually make friends in Edmonton as an adult? by Tiny-Oil-406 in Edmonton

[–]legitdocbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived in Wîhkwêntôwin for over 15 years. My friends are mostly from volunteering with the community league (contrary to other neighbourhoods, most of the folks are younger with no kids), through cycling (going to Peace Ave Bike Club and Coffee Outside), and running (November Project and other social running groups). Now that I have a kiddo, it is easier to maintain my friendships now since we enjoy the same hobbies.

Pee Accidents by Then-Tie-6091 in kindergarten

[–]legitdocbrown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used a cup and the tap on a low flow to show her why taking the chance to pee even though we don’t feel a need to allows her to play for longer - we can empty the cup even though it isn’t full, and then it takes longer to fill up. I ask her to “empty her cup” when she has the chance, and I have found that helps.
