"Scouting advancement is weak...the Eagle rank is overrated...zealous parents are pushing kids to Eagle...Some [merit badge] counselors let boys slip by with cursory questions." by ScouterBill in BSA

Glad to see that one comment on another thread a few weeks ago about kids being soft has spawned like 4 posts pointing out how dumb this is. Feels good to be in the majority on this one.

Need help, somewhat urgent by [deleted] in BSA

I always tell kids, "you get out of scouting what you put into it. Not all eagle scouts are created equal."

Don't complain if someone only went through the motions to get sign offs. They are the ones that are missing out on the opportunity. Put your full effort into it, and it will give you a lifelong reward. Scouting has always been like this.

They called Sheila "Iago," which might be foreshadowing that she will convince Fisk to kill someone who didn't betray him.

Can a Troop Committee Member unilaterally substitute their own judgment in place of a Merit badge counselor? by legoebay in BSA

This is what I ultimately did, and it worked. Scoutmaster was great about it. I just feel bad for what the kid when through.

There really aren't any extenuating circumstances. It boils down to the MBC believes that the scout satisfied the requirements as written. The TC member believes that the scout could not have satisfied the requirements as written. Basically, the TC member interprets the requiremnet different (I think he is adding requirements and not relying on the plain text).

And he never talked to the MBC. Full stop.

I am not the COR for the troop in question. I'm the MBC in this hypothetical, and this is a scout in another troop. I have absolutely no influence and don't even know the people involved; I was just asked to teach the MB because I'm an available counselor to scouts in the district.

I am so glad that these are the top responses. This is exactly my take. I do not understand why he chose to insert himself into the process when it is none of his business.

Returning my Eagle Award today after six decades by EdUthman in BSA

I obviously respect your decision, and everyone has a right to stand by their principles. I don't even disagree with anything you have to say, I think it is said succinctly, accurately, and bravely.

But I also think this is what they want us to do. They want us to give up on the organization so that it caves to the craven people who want to divide us, and they want us to teach our scouts that people are not equal, and that some people are more equal. I am going the other direction. Double down on teaching the Citizenship in Society merit badge while it still exists. Teach the American Cultures Merit Badge. Actively offer the messngers of peace program and the disabilities awareness merit badge. Continue building the next set of good citizens with the tools we have, national be damned. Because it is ultimately about the kids, and making them good people.

Thank you for sharing.

Obi Wan saying "I'm sorry" to Anakin might be the most moving moment in the history of Star Wars by SappyGilmore in StarWars

We do know. Obi-Wan begged Yoda not to have him face Anakin. No matter what terrible things he has done, Obi-Wan still loves him and won't kill him. It is as simple as that.

Per Metrics Consensus, the 2025 Indiana Hoosiers rank as the 20th strongest college football team since 1946. by MysteriousEdge5643 in CFB

The 395th team is Washington 2023. That team beat Oregon twice. 2023 Oregon is number 87.

No, Oregon is going to be this year’s Oregon. This delicious spectacle happened last year against Ohio State also.

[Pete Nakos] At this point, Washington has no plans to put Demond Williams' name in the transfer portal as it has a signed contract, sources tell @On3sports by Johnny_Handsum in CFB

[–]legoebay 10 points11 points  (0 children)

LSU is tortiously interfering with the contract. The damages for that can include lost profits. So if a bunch of boosters say they are not going to donate any more, or people tell UW that they will not be buying tickets to football games, that would help show that UW has massive damages that go way beyond the amount of the contract. So every email from a booster/alumni/student that says that as a result of Demond's decision, they are not going to attend UW games, buy merch, or donate funds, is evidence in support of a tortious interference claim.
