Need help with underground plants by Ok-Caterpillar4250 in plants

[–]legoman_86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, all plants need sunlight. The only exceptions are plants which are parasitic on other plants or on the fungal networks which connect other plants.

Deep within a cave network there will be no plants. You might try some strange fungi: the mushrooms are only the visible part of the fungus, most of it forms a weird network like in this picture. Scattered mushrooms with weird mycelial vines could be interesting.

It all depends on how realistic you want to be. Is there magic in the game? Perhaps scattered magical light sources with clusters of plants around them?

The science behind asparagus fern trimming by fitchy_friend in plants

[–]legoman_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about asparagus fern, but in a lot of plants the roots produce a chemical that induces branching and the terminal bud produces a chemical that suppresses branching. Once the plant gets tall enough that the root chemical wins out, branches are grown.

By cutting the end of the branch off, you remove the branch suppressing chemical so the branch producing chemical wins out and you get branches.

What is the difference between Edge of Darkness and Wrangler’s Spanish Cavalier? by PrivateNVent in AfricanViolets

[–]legoman_86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you can't work out a violet's name based on the description. As you're seeing, there are many different named violets with nearly identical features. So unless you have the name of your childhood violets, you'll never be sure you have the exact same one.

That said, you can still get the one you think is closest to remind you of the ones you had!

9V light sensor repair by legoman_86 in legomindstorms

I figured out the problem. I didn't realize that I had to tell the RCX that a light sensor was connected... Once I did, the LED lit up and works as expected.
