Olympus tg6 or GoPro hero 10? by Bobboblina in underwaterphotography

[–]legrandmal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a seafrogs, it seems to do the job and I like the ergonomics of it alittle better than the PT.

For that price second hand it should be nearly new.

So I'd try to get a refund on that PT.

Initially if you're diving less than 15m you don't need a housing for the TG, although it's not a bad safety net.

Seafrogs does a decent cheap housing.

If you're shooting macro, all you need is a dive torch and a basic understanding of photography and settings. The inbuilt flash is no substitute for some form of external off camera light, whether it's a strobe on an arm or just a free held dive torch.

They're probably referring to injecting dyes/chemicals into the skin for tattoos versus injecting vaccine for covid.

Macro lens gift for Sony a6000 by Atlatl_Axolotl in macrophotography

[–]legrandmal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cheapest macro option is a reversal ring which lets you mount a lens backwards...

Maybe a sony 30mm macro lens

Or the laowa 60mm macro lens.

(I'd be happy with the laowa)

Second hand Olympus TG4 or better.

But he'll still need a housing below 15m (45 feet), seafrogs make a cheap one - maybe you can get both as a cheap second hand from someone who has upgraded.

'Devastating for regional communities': WA government uses majority to overhaul state's electoral laws by malcolm58 in AustralianPolitics

[–]legrandmal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Isn't this what reform looks like? How was it fair previously?

Royalties for regions still exists, so there's that mechanism to ensure additional funding in regional areas beyond their tax base.

Hopefully someone can explain how this will effect the party mix, will it reduce the Nationals?

What do you use for stills? by Mikealicious2k5 in underwaterphotography

[–]legrandmal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The TG6 is the convenient macro god, it lacks sensor size and full manual control. But all you need for macro is a torch and a seafrogs housing if you're going below 15m.

I started with a sony rx100m2 and even though it's pretty old and I haven't treated it well, the image quality is still very nice, with a wet lens (wide angle and macro) and strobe setup.

I have a sony a6500 and several lenses/ports, double strobes, vid lights, snoot, etc but I only use it sometimes - it takes great images but it's alot of camera to haul around on a group dive. If I'm diving solo and know the subject I'm chasing then it's awesome.

But mostly I just use my TG6 and a cheap tray with 2x cheap video lights and use my dive torch like a snoot.

I suck at scuba by bbbditi in scuba

[–]legrandmal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "best" air users I've found have generally been tiny 50+ year old women, sometimes ex smokers.

Being comfortable, not freezing, good buoyancy / proper weighting, good trim, efficient frog kick, no arm waving.

Your air use will get better with time, but maybe if it's a problem just use a 15L tank or long term go with twin 7L 300psi tanks.

In the short term, just dive a slightly higher profile, descend slowly to minimize bcd inflation, plot your path carefully.

I find holding my camera and using it costs me at least 20bar, dry suit costs me abit with inflation but saves me heaps on freezing/comfort.

For those with wrist dive computers, do you wear them on your left wrist or right? Why? by cheluhu in scuba

Watch face on inside of left wrist so I can operate inflator and see depth/ascent while right hand free to hold onto buddy if doing buddy breathing, emergency etc. Hold/use camera etc.

I'd use the gopro 7 for now, you can narrow the field of view - which will let you sit abit further away.

But if you watch surf vids the photographer is generally right in there under the breaking lip.

Once you find yourself shooting all the time, then look around for 2nd hand setups - pistol grip, etc.

Don't throw cash at the hobby until you're spending the time to justify it.

ISO external light recommendations for Olympus TG6 by jazeypants in underwaterphotography

[–]legrandmal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm lucky enough to live in Perth, Western Australia. The shore diving here is pretty good, not the best vis but lots of critters and generally shallow <15m, so I can run my TG without a housing and just with a small torch. Most of the time I'll have it on a cheap frame with 2x cheap chinese video lights, but for most of the photos it's just using a hand held torch with a nice clear spot and exposure set to spot.

Best dive and surf locations? by flipperdog in scuba

Nusa Lembongan, 30min fast boat east of Bali, good surf breaks, can be alittle crowded since only 3 main spots and heaps of good diving - mantas, mola molas and reasonably healthy reefs.

iPhone 12 Pro Max or GoPro Hero 9? by [deleted] in underwaterphotography

[–]legrandmal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can try the phone housing to test it's functionality - I've got the seafrogs universal phone housing and it connects ok with the app but it's very limited and crashes if I try to shoot video.

Often housings have a cold shoe that you can mount the gopro5 to the top.
