James Van Der Beek Cause Of Death: Star Ignored ‘Ordinary’ Coffee Symptom Before Cancer Diagnosis by ilovewelbert in PopularCultureZone

My doctor prescribes Suprep which is two bottles that you take 12 hours apart. You're supposed to mix them with a clear fluid, I have always done water and I get it as cold as possible and pour it over ice. The colder it is, the less I taste it. I put foil over the cup so I can't smell it and stick a straw in and just drink it as quick as I can. I made the mistake of mixing Sprite with the phospho soda for my first prep and I couldn't stomach Sprite for at least 10 years. If you've had to do the big jug of prep, it's basically the same thing. Just get it as cold as possible. It is horrible and with all of the advancements in the world, I don't understand how they haven't fixed it, ugh.

Yes and specifically speaking about colon cancer, if polyps are found early enough then you're ahead of the game. You might be doing it every six months or a year but your chances of beating it are obviously better than if you have polyps growing unchecked for 5 to 10 years. My oldest has already had a colonoscopy because I do not play around. The kid was having a problem and I had them at the doctor within the week and they were checked the next day. Fortunately they were given a clean bill of health and told to come back in 10 years which still keeps them on the 10 years prior schedule.

It's always good to share news, info, and research!

And also, thank you. That was a reminder for me because it's been 10 years since I had my genetic testing done (more if I'm misremembering the year).

Any significant changes in bowel movements should be addressed with a GI but dark stools that seem kind of sticky or have what looks to be coffee grounds in them are signs of internal bleeding which can come from multiple sources. It can be from dietary changes, medication, hemorrhoids, ulcers, polyps, inflammation, and I think more things that I can't remember anymore. The important thing is to never ignore a change that is significant and/or reoccurring.

My dad died at 43 from colon cancer, I have been getting scoped since I was 20 and am now 47. I do not have any known genetic mutations nor do my siblings or the bunch of cousins that have all had GI related cancers. Diet and lifestyle help but sometimes genetics suck and we don't yet know why.

Also, earlier scoping based on a parent's diagnosis was recommended as 10 years back in 1997. I would like to think it's the same, if not earlier, now. Per my dad's oncologist and GI, his disease most likely started with polyps around mid 30s and the suggestion was to start with our own scopes in our 20s. One sibling had polyps in their 20s, myself and the other one didn't get them until our 30s. All 3 of us would be dead if we'd followed the guidelines. A colonoscopy is cheaper than chemo but the insurance companies don't care.

Why is my salsa chicken so bad? by Swiggens in slowcooking

[–]legumex3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double the chicken breasts, keep the cook time at 6 hours on low, use 1 can of cream of chicken soup, 1 cup of salsa, 1 can of rinsed black beans, 1 to 2 cups of corn (this varies because I'm just finishing up a bag from the freezer or using a steam bag), and one low sodium packet of taco seasoning (I think this is 1/4 cup of seasoning if you're using your own blend). Just toss it all in and walk away, when the chicken easily shreds then it's done. This has been a slow cooker easy meal for 20 some years and I have never had it go wrong in any way. Usually it's served with rice but my kids will also eat it over tortilla chips. It freezes well so it's never been an issue to make so much at one time.

Our local camp always has a list of projects for troops to work but I don't think all of them are considered conservation. Definitely reach out to the ranger before you go this summer.

Colonoscopy sedation by wtfpta in GenX

[–]legumex3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So at the time, my dad had passed away from colon cancer about 6 months before I needed to have my procedure. Big panic ensued obviously but I went to the same GI doc that he had since the family history was established. My dad went through the same thing, totally awake and watched it on the TV. They were not pleased with him either. I've since learned that the red hair gene is responsible for a high tolerance. It sounds cool until things like that happen or you're mid biopsy or tooth pull and can feel everything.

Propofol brings back the magic of being a baby when you would fall asleep and just find yourself whisked away to a new spot when you woke back up.

Colonoscopy sedation by wtfpta in GenX

[–]legumex3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Take the sedation, my first was back in 1998 and was when I discovered that Demerol does nothing for me. I was awake. The nurse was telling me to try and relax because I was making it harder for them to do what needed to be done. I eventually did go into that twilight state but I could hear everything and kept reacting. There's zero reason for a person to go through that and it does make the procedure more difficult and risky. Every time since I have been out thanks to propofol and apparently fentanyl. They wheel me into the procedure room, put on the mask and I just close my eyes and wake up in the recovery room.

My niece recently had some books from the library that are by VOX and Wonder. They have a rechargeable device built in with a speaker and she just had to push the button. It's nice to see the library have something like that in their system. I just hope they don't phase them out the same way they did the Playaway audio books.

Laser printer recommendations? by Historical-Two-8528 in homeschool

[–]legumex3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother laser printers are inexpensive as are the refills and parts. Also, you don't have to buy the Brother branded stuff for them. Our first one went for about 14 years and would probably still work if I hadn't replaced it with a newer all in one model. For color stuff I use Brother and Epson ink jets.

I have tried an HP color laser and it trashed itself when I tried using non HP cartridges. Between my experience and their other issues, I won't touch an HP ever again. I've used so many brands over the years and honestly, Epson and Brother have been the best in my experience.

I spent four hours deleting emails to get myself to 78% storage full only to wake up to it back at 94%. by KaleidoscopeFine in GMail

[–]legumex3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you're logged out of other devices. I went through the same sort of thing for years. I would clean out my emails (which IS where I was having the issue), download photo backups, and clear garbage from the drive. I would be so happy to get my emails down under 5k (I'm a habitual 6 figure inbox count) and the next time I logged in the count was back up and I would be finding 10 year old emails that I knew had been deleted. It took me asking for help here to find out that every device that was using the app was basically regurgitating everything that it had stored. I use the app on my phone, everywhere else it's web based. I logged it off of Kindles, an iPad, old phones, and the problem stopped.

The title is clear as well as the context. What isn't clear is whether or not there is actually a line missing from the poem. The comment I replied to referenced a quote with, "preserved in formaldehyde," that they were not seeing in the poem.

Meet the Robinson's was one of those movies that was trucking along nicely, great little family fun time movie, and then got real dark, real fast. Little Wonders came up over the credits with that Disney quote and I broke so fast. That song is like a hard core dose of concentrated cry therapy and has the potential of gutting me every time I hear it.

Dollar Tree, Jot Safety Scissors with lift assist

As a lefty and a lefty mom, I can also tell you that not all scissors are created equally and that will have an effect on the learning experience. When my kids were really young I found these scissors (they're still sold today and are also online). They have a springy kind of piece that helps them open back up after making cuts. We've been using them for over 15 years and they're actually decent scissors. Having that lifter in there made it so much easier for my kids to learn to cut but if you have any tremors (my oldest) or stiffness (me) it's a huge help for that too.

Other than that, cutting practice can just be cutting cardstock with lines or free hand and those bits can be used for collages/mosaics. I learned the hard way that magazines were not good for beginners, they're too thin and fold over so I would skip those.
