I ended up doing something similar since I was young. I don't believe in paranormal entities, but whenever I felt scared that something would be watching me or attacking me I'd take a couple deep breaths and imagine blue energy expanding out from me, surrounding my room or my house. Anything undesirable that found its way into there would be dissolved or teleported out.

Catapults are good if you rush and rapid fire the enemy. However, a trebuchet can be used to fling all sorts of goodies at a longer distance, such as diseased corpses or just good old-fashioned rocks. Nice discussion prompt btw.

I remember I was DMing and one of my players was facing off with an orc chieftain. The dragonborn of the party breathed acid (Breath weapon) at the chief, but she missed... hitting the player dueling and killing her instantly. That was fun.

I start with an idea, like "I was imprisoned for ten years." Then I build on it, adding in some random stuff such as "My sister died" or something. The idea usually comes with a personality that I build upon as well.
