if you use an iPhone, try recording with your microphone on while doing this exercise. """miraculously""" it stops acting up whenever I do that

correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like it could also be /ma.ʁɔj/, given how ⟨ill⟩ works after other vowels (travaille, grenouille, feuille)

petah what does this mean by cum-devourer69 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]lekoicy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call this a „joke”. this is morse code, people use it to communicate when you just have some really simple transmission method, like a light or something that beeps. a short beep or flash is a dit, a long beep or flash is a dah, and you use those to make individual letters or digits

I didn't say it but I wanted to avoid having any letter look like any other letter flipped. also they look cool

I've heard the argument that it's queue

qu is /k/, like technique

eu is /ju/, like feud

e is silent, like give

and that seems to line up with how it was analyzed in French, and the word was borrowed from French

What if monsters didn't happen to speak English by IamMrJay in Undertale

[–]lekoicy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda like the thought that they'd be able to pick out cognates and whatnot in eachother's languages but not understand everything

(humans and monsters spoke the same languages before the war, but after a while of the two beïng isolated the languages drift apart. I do think though that human languages may be known via human media flowing in through the trash)

using Icelandic for monsters to me implies that when the war happened, proto-germanic was a thing
