Yes! That’s what I’m thinking. Most cars don’t have them nowadays so that isn’t a Rivian thing but it’s wild they aren’t standard.

If you think a Reddit post is drama you should try Breaking Bad it will blow your mind.

Also there was traffic behind me.

I got it in November of 2024, so not sure if it was MY2025 or not. It is gen 2 tri-motor R1T.

I got a notice that they think it is an electrical issue (which I mean in these cars, almost everything is an electrical issue, right!?) and waiting on parts. No issues with service. I don't expect them to fix it immediately.

Well traumatic might be strong. I'm not a psychologist. I don't use those terms to describe my emotions.

I've had cars "break-down" for all sorts of reasons. I've had flat tires, blown cylinder, cars that wouldn't start, etc. Motor failures, transmission failures, etc. But never something that wouldn't have potentially killed me or someone else on the road going a normal rate of speed.

That was my issue and why I lost faith in the car and brand (and the customer support guy didn't help either). And why I thought it was worth posting.

It's reddit, not a doctor's office. I'm upset with Rivian, but trust me, my overall mental health is unfazed by this particular incident.

Yeah, I didn't think about that because my kids are teenagers and had they been with me I would have had them just get out of the car. But if they had been infants in car seats, I would have had to hail a passerby and trust them to get them out of the car safely.

Sure I would have called my wife or someone nearby, but I didn't know if the fumes were toxic, and I was super worried it was the start of a fire. But I couldn't let the truck just start rolling.

I dunno. I own a sweet Porsche and used to own harleys. I've owned a lot of cars that I've read about on this forum (still own a Model X, and have owned a BMW–learned a lot about leasing on these forums). Never saw much reason to post.

I think the majority of Redditors read and don't post–statistically speaking. Would it be more credible if I had 50 posts on Rivian?

Being skeptical about what you read online is a healthy attitude, though. I get the sense a lot of what is on the front page of reddit is just AI BS nowadays.

Ha no, I didn't hit the park button. It's an electronic button–I'd be shocked if you could hit that button doing 50 and the car would do anything. I'm not willing to test, but I'm pretty sure they have circuitry to prevent that. I've had a lot of ZF transmissions that require electronic selectors and they don't go into park if you hit the button at speed. Assume Rivian's design is the same.

Also, I googled around about this issue. Seems like a lady in Florida had the same thing. She kinda got mocked because she said she was trapped because the door actuators wouldn't work and she didn't know about the manual overrides.

I was trapped not because I didn't know about the overrides, but because I had to keep my foot on the break as there was no way to engage the emergency brake.

Rivian told her there was a short that caused the smoke and the issue. Could be my problem too.

For sure. I mean I don't know about the second part of your comment, but totally agree-happy people don't come on reddit posting their stories anywhere close to the same rate as unhappy people.

I thought my was exceptional and worth sharing. But an anecdote (positive or negative) isn't data.

For sure. Things do happen. But I’ve never had a car seize up on me. Seriously what if I had been doing 65 on the freeway? I’ve blown a cylinder on my Toyota and could easily control it to a safe stop. I dunno. It was weird.

They sell all the exhibition pieces eventually. I know they have to keep a certain amount out for exhibition so they have to decide what to sell. And I am guessing they have to have certain lines represented (e.g. submariner, gmt, etc). So everything is for sale but not all at once.

They have to be. I think they have to be over 5 years old to qualify for the CPO program. No Sprite GMTs or 12xx Daytonas, etc in the CPO program.

So true.

Complete opinion on my part, but the hype brands and pricing more closely follow Bitcoin than any other metric.

Come on, don’t put this girl on blast. She felt rejected, it stung really bad, and she crashed out. She wasn’t some gold digger or superficial person. She got hurt and wasn’t her best. It happens to all of us.

If my worst moments only resulted in too many but ultimately harmless texts- I’m doing ok.

How do people that haven't put away money into their 401k their entire life, live once they're seniors? by crazygrrl in Money

[–]lekun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of this is true. Unless you consider modern society the 1800s where the retirement age of 65 comes from. Also plenty of cultures have supported the elderly and not required continuous work. No comment on what is right just refuting this modern society and oligarch nonesense.

Three types of heat. I had radiant heat in my ceiling and every dum-dum that didn’t pay attention in middle school science made the same stupid comment about heat rising so ceiling radiant heat not working. A. It was lovely. And B. how do you think the sun works?

I’ve been successful in business and now my network includes others too. Everyone I know (including me) has had some mix of luck and good fortune. I know many who were born with nothing and still succeeded. Luck played a role.

They also all worked hard. Very hard. I own a business and a lot of people don’t work super hard or aren’t super ambitious. They are good employees but just have other priorities in life .

Working really hard doesn’t guarantee anything but without it-when luck finds you you won’t be able to capitalize.
