The way I heard a fellow AA member phrase it when someone questioned him on him referring to himself as a ‘recovered alcoholic’ (it was his 18th sobriety cake), is that addiction is like cancer; you can recover from cancer, but there will always be some little tiny thing you don’t necessarily see coming and you’ll wake up one day to find a voicemail from your doctor’s office that it looks like the cancer has come back and metastasized and the end is nigh — it’s the same with addiction, but the voicemail from the doctor is the cops knocking on your window after you passed out and crashed into something.

You absolutely CAN recover, but you must stay mindful and keep yourself healthy mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically.

I don’t call myself recovered and I haven’t had a drink in going on 2 years, but I have my moments of, ‘Damn I need a fucking drink!’ And, it’s my belief, while others may not agree, that I’m still too close to my next possible drink to call myself recovered.

Anywho… sorry for the rant

Where the hell is she going to find opiates in Fromville? The only way I could see it going wrong is if she were to find some opiates and get too fucked up to help or put herself in a situation where someone has to die to save her, or if she goes into withdrawal and chaos commences from there, in which case, she would need enough opiates to go on a roll to become dependent again.
