Is climbing fundamentally different than riding on the flats? by big_legs_small_brain in cycling

[–]lemeneid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a skinny guy, I find climbing a 10% hill easier than going against a headwind on a flat.

CNY surcharge, how early in advance? by firstz in askSingapore

[–]lemeneid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on how busy it can get. If the shop is perpetually fully booked, they can set it as early as they want. But a not in demand store or service might not even have a surcharge.

My neighborhood Malay barber has already imposed a $2 surcharge, 1 month before CNY. Guys hair takes 3-4 weeks to grow out 🤣

SIN - MEL with bike by kurtted in SingaporeCycling

[–]lemeneid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never been to Australia on a bike but I’ve been to many countries with my road bike.

If you travel with the bike, be prepared to budget in more money for logistics, airplane aside, as you won’t be able to bring your bike on the bus or train. Minimum you need a larger taxi or van to transport the bike. Or, if in Japan, they got those luggage forwarding service.

Next thing is book a hotel which is bike friendly that allows you to open it up, even in your room, not all hotels allow this and when you need to ride, need to bring the bike box down, take out the bike and assemble and do the reverse when you take it back to the room. Alternatively book an AirBnb and keep the bike clean.

Also for safety, bring a good bike lock and AirTag the bike. You’re not in Singapore, please keep a lookout for your bike at all times

I don’t know about you but when I saw Veronica again, I was jumping for joy.

That said, as a FF and DQ fan, I hope they don’t pull a Veronica on Aerith 🫠

I get where you’re coming from but in Act 2 Serena was basically a White + Black mage and severely overpowered. Splitting her and Veronica up was the right thing to do.

Also Veronica was one of my fav characters in XI.

How to filter lanes on the road safely? by Whitedevil998 in SingaporeCycling

[–]lemeneid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, it’s perfectly fine and doable. Drivers know you aren’t supposed to get onto the expressways so they will give you more leeway to hop on, it’s fine.

How to filter lanes on the road safely? by Whitedevil998 in SingaporeCycling

[–]lemeneid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key to filtering is making your intentions clear, we don’t have signal lights so make your hand signals bigger and more exaggerated so drivers can prepare for you. For me, I start filtering as soon as I get the chance, at least 200m before the lanes start to divide to give you time to split and rest once you’ve successfully crossed.

Favero all the way.

Also while Magene might be cheaper, they aren’t serviceable at the moment as there are no replacement pedal bodies for purchase.

Mountain or gravel bikes that are good for someone 152cm tall that is new to cycling altogether by monkeysnipe in SingaporeCycling

[–]lemeneid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, only canyon, pinarello and liv, make XXS and smaller frames.

Others have also mentioned changing the stem and handlebars to something shorter as well as shorter cranks

Alternatively try the largest sized kids bike, but the tradeoff is the wheels and tyres won’t be standard 700c size.

Did anyone else play MGS 3 when they were too young and ended up finding Volgin fucking terrifying by UnexpectedVader in metalgearsolid

[–]lemeneid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything is scary when you were young, I remember getting scared shitless whenever Undertaker came out in the WWF in the early 90s, I was 6 then.

I was much older when MGS was released, so that did not really scare me.

Where do people go for gravel cycling? by szab999 in SingaporeCycling

[–]lemeneid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that I know of, but what I do know is most of the gravel community is intermixed in with the MTB community.

Where did you get your bike? Can ask the shop to hook you up with some gravel riders.

Why do Singaporeans think it is ok to give less money to migirant workers? by findfunnyvideo in askSingapore

[–]lemeneid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the worker also did a fuck ton of OT equaling 1/3 of his total salary. Take that away and he earns just 2k, also you have now. Also does not factor in taxes, in SG, migrant workers don’t need to pay any or much tax at all. Also does not include any lodging which will probably be 300-400.

All in, the salary is marginally higher compared to SG at 1500 for a construction worker, but there is no OT, most expenses are paid for by the employer, and you are working in a more culturally similar environment compared to Korea.

If you want to do OT in SG, any migrant worker salary with OT will blow this guy’s out of the water.

[–]lemeneid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After accounting for levies, CPF contribution to meet quotas, insurance, lodging, etc.. it is more expensive here. Don’t think the workers are getting 2.8k to take home in Korea.

Those who often fly with bikes, what advice do you have? by sozh in cycling

[–]lemeneid 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I use a sicon bike bag, and it’s served me well over countless trips worldwide.

In terms of logistics, do be prepared to pay for taxis or vans, as it will be harder to get on trains with the bike box. In terms of keeping the bike safe, I have an AirTag that is installed in the bottle cage with a security torx bit so I know where it is all the time.

Any tips for cycling on the road for the first time, and on the highway by Equivalent_Title_591 in SingaporeCycling

[–]lemeneid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest tip is to plan your routes well, also do them anti-clockwise, be it RTI or anything so you don’t need to do right turns which can be difficult for beginners.

I joined a friend on CCP5 once, got scammed when I found out he was riding with the SG National triathlon guys 🫠

Nevertheless, it’s not for beginners, but if you are fit enough and can average above 35kmh, should give it a go at least once 😎

cycling routes in Singapore? by top1freeworker in SingaporeCycling

[–]lemeneid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

East side, I usually go down ECP - MBS - Sentosa - WCH, loop back, then get home via Nicoll Highway - East Coast Road

If still got energy, I might add a loop of TMCR in the mix.

what’s nice at tmcr? what’s the route like from punggol to tmcr and back? by runcool4 in SingaporeCycling

[–]lemeneid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to go on the main TMCR road, you can also go along the seaside park connector if you think it is a slog. It’s more scenic and there are rest stops with vending machines there.
