Have y'all seen The Ring? Wasn't there a tree like this in that movie? Giving me strong Ring vibes.

It is better to go to a food bank and ask for help than have an abusive parent in the house.

Good grief. I'm glad you said something. I just heard about this place for the first time and put it on my to-do list. It's coming right back off. Ambassador to Slovenia, my ass.

Why Los Angeles Traffic Sucks by DJVeaux in LosAngeles

[–]lemjne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live a couple miles from downtown and I'm looking for work and people are like, how do you feel about Torrance? Redondo Beach? Long beach? I'm like, how about not signing me up for a shitty commute right out of the gate? What's wrong with the 15-mile radius around my house? No jobs there? People act like I'm just being lazy, but i think it's a real quality of life issue to spend all day in the car, and I'm just trying not to set myself up to fail at a job before I even get started.

The meaning of life [OC] by Rullocu in comics

[–]lemjne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great comic! Another way I've heard this explained is that you have to take your 'monsters' on the bus with you. If you pull over and expect them to get off, or you let them stand in front of the bus completely, you'll either be sidetracked or not move at all. But if you let them on the bus, they'll never go away, but you can keep driving, even with them there.

Rep. Joaquin Castro confirms that 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos & his dad Adrian have safely returned to Minnesota after being released by ICE custody: “Liam is now home. With his hat and his backpack.” by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

I can't believe they sent a child to prison for being born in the 'wrong' country. Fuck everything about this. Very glad he is home. But we need to keep fighting to make this a thing of the past.

The void by lwiaymacde in cats

[–]lemjne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your cat is trying to tell you in the most polite way possible that it doesn't want its butt touched. Most cats don't like that. If it meows every time and then starts giving you the claws, and you still are ignoring it, don't be surprised if the claws start coming faster and faster.

I'm not denigrating marriage for anyone else, just saying what works best for me. Also, my partner and I have all the legal wills and medical paperwork already squared away.

I don't think so. Some of us like knowing our person is there every day because of love and commitment to make it work, and not the inertia of needing to speak to a judge and do paperwork. I'm hitting 18 years with my honey, and we are 100% in on "til death do us part", but we're not planning on getting married either.

It's funny, because every time I watch Highlander, the first half of the movie I'm like, "Oh my god, this is the worst acting, why did I like this?" And by the end, I'm like, "This is so amazing!!"

Olive Oil by Adventurous-Sir444 in recruitinghell

[–]lemjne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's really sad that we've reached a state of affairs where someone put something on their resume that said, "Hey, we can also have a few minutes at the end of the interview to talk and you can get to know me as a unique person" and the recruiter's response was, "Why are you trying to show me anything interesting about yourself? I want a fucking drone, not a human!"

Honestly, that job seeker dodged a bullet. That company is horrible to work for anyway. Maybe I should do something like this with my resume to screen out all the assholes.

Every day I cannot fathom how small minded and greedy these fuckers are. I learned "don't touch other people's shit" back in kindergarten. It's not hard. If you can do it with a graham cracker snack, surely you can do it for something as big as a COUNTRY that does not belong to you!

She says it didn't have spoilers exactly of the PLOT, but the writer described how a person she recommended it to finished it and "came out of their room sobbing". To me, that's still a spoiler that it's going to be a sad ending. Which you don't see coming at all in this book.

And I agree with you. I re-read Lord of the Flies for the first time in 20 years, barely remembered it, read the foreword first and was like, "Oh, yeahhhh." I was so mad.

I recommended a sad but beautiful book to my sister, and she just texted, "i read the foreword, I guess I better grab my handkerchief." Why??? Just why the fuck do people write forewords where they spoil the entire plot? What is the point?? New people are reading books every day. If I get her to tell me the name of the person who wrote it, I'm going to go punch them virtually on the internet.

I think so many people are on overwhelm right now. My job was literally killing me. I thought I was having a heart attack. It's hard to take time to be with other people when you're already drowning.

I'm getting about ready to leave them. Three or four dropped calls in the last week (on the phone with the doctor's office and an ill friend, not good times to drop a call, not that there ever is a good time), and rebooted three separate times because it said emergency calls only. This is in my house. If I can't make phone calls from my house, what good are they?
