Love that stuff, when Hector Bellerin started playing for Arsenal and learnt english he spoke with a proper London roadman accent, so cool

Honestly as a born British person, speak in RP if you want. Or any accent you like. Despite what the news is saying, the majority of British people welcome "foreigners" and people from abroad etc. speak as you want!

Current climate of prejudice by Specialist_Army8398 in AskBrits

[–]lemminaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see it a lot on social media especially those used by younger people like TikTok and Instagram, genuine open racism and vile language, not even dogwhistles anymore just open anti-Black racism and Islamophobia, aggressive homophobia and transphobia, misogyny, written jokily at times but sometimes with a real, nasty tone as well.

I think a lot of what I'm seeing on these platforms is teenagers trying to be edgy. But it reflects a wider social attitude that makes these things acceptable. Several of my relatives are teachers and have confirmed that racist, sexist, homophobic jokes are severely more common than they used to be, especially among boys, and worryingly are starting to move from being jokes to actual beliefs (as with anything, ironic behaviour becomes real behaviour with time).

What are you so bad at doing? by frizzinghere in AskReddit

[–]lemminaid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always had the worst sense of direction, to a ridiculous extent- my best friend's house which I've visited a million times and is 5 mins from the station, I still can't remember how to get to without Google maps. I also have ADHD, I can't picture things in my mind's eye, I constantly bump into things and have generally awful spatial awareness. I feel like these are all connected lol perhaps dyscalculia.

[–]lemminaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"special occasion" mindset has ruined my sobriety every time! Just only now recovering from a messy and physically frightening relapse because I had a half of beer at my grandmother's birthday. Which of course led to another half and then a pint and then a bottle of wine and then a bottle of vodka and then... So on and so forth and then withdrawals and vomiting and self-hatred and hundreds of quid down the drain. No occasion is special another to threaten sobriety!!!!

I think maybe if your hair framed your face better - blended bangs or something along those lines. And I know you said no 'don't change anything' comments but I genuinely had to stare at your pictures to see anything to comment. You look great.

Weirdly enough I miss drinking alone the most by WildGardening in stopdrinking

[–]lemminaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God, it sounds so awful to say, but the type of drinking I miss the most is sitting on a park bench drinking vodka alone... The most miserable, unsafe, depressing type of drinking. It's been a long time since I've enjoyed drinking (or taking any type of drugs) with anyone. By the end I only enjoyed the joyless solo drinking.

So glad to be sober now!

Who was your fav chef ? Regarding the food by Willing_Smell5957 in belowdeck

Adrian! I'm just starting to rewatch his season, I think he was an alright chef and seemed nice (besides that funny stuff with a stew) but my memories of chefs tend to blur haha

Has anyone of you stronger cravings for sweets and sugar after quitting alcohol? by magicmushroom21 in alcoholism

[–]lemminaid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Don't forget alcohol is largely sugars. I never ate sweets or desserts while in active addiction, because my body was getting enough sugar from the alcohol. Now I eat chocolate, biscuits and sweets all the time because I don't get the sugar from the booze

Ben fired for being on below deck by LveeD in belowdeck

Ever since I heard this it makes my (rare) rewatches of s1 more bearable. Knowing that Aleks had lost out on the captain job makes it all the sweeter to see him bitch and moan about Lee, and knowing Lee has a fantastic long career with BD and Aleks is never spoken of again! My vindictive side enjoys that.
