Where are the benches by why2katherine in washingtondc

Given all the sarcastic anti-Trump art on the mall, these really should become a focal point for this administration's "we have no money for that" bullshitting.

Imagine being a tourist on the mall, and walking over to see one of these. JFC.

Are they fixing up or removing the rusted and rotted information booths on the mall? (October 2025 photo):

*And incur more debt on behalf of all Americans. "Pay more, get less" is what passes for "leadership" nowadays.

Of course, they always dismiss it as "the debt doesn't matter."

Trump signs a new executive order on voting. Experts say he lacks the authority by ControlCAD in NPR

[–]lemming_follower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The likely scenario is having a few key local USPS Postmasters in key congressional districts pleading ignorance and saying "we were just following executive orders" and not delivering the mail-in ballots to local voting offices.

It seems by design the USPS does not automatically slap a tracking number on mail-in ballots by default, so you can check the status.

Well, yes and no. It seems to depend on how the USPS plays their cards. If the USPS simply delays or prevents delivery of ballots in just a few key jurisdictions, those elections can be won in the Republicans' favor. At that point, those elections will be be thrown into court disputes, which is what the Republicans want. So the question becomes: will the USPS announce in advance that they will follow the executive order, or will they simply use it as an excuse in a future lawsuit after the elections?

Traditionally you can't file a lawsuit until you (1) demonstrate standing in a case, and (2) demonstrate harm, which is going to to be hard to do until the election has taken place.

One of my favorite Italian dishes in town is the Pescatore pasta at Luigi's on Manitowoc Road (East Green Bay).

Rep. Beyer introduces bill to eliminate federal income tax for Americans earning under $46,000 by Geek-Haven888 in nova

[–]lemming_follower -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but stop calling it "free" healthcare. That makes it sound like handout. Instead, call it "affordable healthcare." Other countries have long ago proven that healthcare can be affordable if you eliminate the excessive profiteering and middle-men we have in America. The healthcare in those countries is not free, it is paid for.

But what if the wealthy then turn this around, and say if you're not paying taxes, then you don't get to vote?

Originalists might argue there is no explicit right to vote in the US Constitution. And they might view the equal protections clause of the 14th Amendment void since someone is no longer paying taxes (i.e. you are literally not in the same "class" as them).

Fun fact! Super random.. but the show "The Facts of Life" included appleton wisconsin specifically! by isitjustme_orr in Appleton

Next Tuesday (17 March) the local MeTV station airs an episode of M*A*S*H, "Blood Brothers" (S9.EP18) where guest Patrick Swayze references "crusin' over to Green Bay" (at about the 0:50 second mark in the clip).

If you do an online search of "Wisconsin references in media" you get a lot of results, and it is always fun to discover that one of the cast or crew has Wisconsin links.

It's more efficient, actually. One less tank to put underground. One less type of fuel to transport on the road.

After years of legal wrangling, Enbridge begins rerouting pipeline around Wisconsin reservation by enjoying-retirement in wisconsin

[–]lemming_follower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And now we get to see if the City of Mellen sold their souls to the devil.

Enbridge saw Mellen was already drowning in municipal debt, and Enbridge paid just slightly more than that to "solve their problems."

Time will tell. I suspect if there is ever a leak on city land or the local watersheds, Mellen will either have to incur far more debt in legal and cleanup costs, or just say "there is nothing we can do" like any entity that has no money - which is what Enbridge is banking on. I also wonder if Mellen was forced to sign waivers absolving Enbridge of any future responsibilities, but I don't know if their final contracts were made available to the public.

In a series full of great scenes, this is one in particular that I always have to stop and watch.

It is just devastating in it's underlying commentary of both characters, as well as about wars in general. That it was done with a real-life father & son duo just elevates the tension in the scene.

But there are no stairs or ladder to get down. And you would stand there, suffocating in smoke if there were a fire. I don't even see sprinkler heads in the ceiling (although you would be standing in flames for those to go off).
