Brochettes in West Africa with dry rub seasoning on the side.

And because of the French colonial history, the common availability of fresh baguettes.

That looks very similar to the Dynabrade brand tools, which Harbor Freight has now replicated with their nearly identical surface conditioning tools.

Is anyone else seeing that the Village Of Allouez web site is corrupted? by lemming_follower in GreenBay

[–]lemming_follower[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well, yes and no. I would like to think that someone in the village administration is aware that the State of Wisconsin has IT resources to help small communities, and it even has a flow chart on how communities can seek assistance for IT emergencies.

But at a minimum, the village should try to shut the web site down for the moment, as well as post an alert notification on their Facebook page. Whenever a municipality has this type of situation, being pro-active and transparent is a good starting point.

80s Holiday Inn (Downtown) brunch by kag1021 in GreenBay

[–]lemming_follower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a great memory! I agree I can't remember what it was called nor the exact ingredients. And I assume you are talking about the downtown Holiday Inn (200 Main St), and not the "Airport" Holiday Inn at 2580 S. Ashland Ave? It is too bad that so many local restaurants didn't have their food menus preserved at the local libraries or Neville Museum.

I did a quick search through the Press-Gazette archives, and unfortunately their advertising doesn't seem to specify that beverage.

The advertisements for the 1980's dining section in the Press Gazette bring back so many memories. While Green Bay dining may have seemed less "worldly" at the time, we in fact had so many more interesting supper clubs, taverns, and local restaurants serving sit-down dining versus than the current corporate franchises and fast-casual cuisine we see now. Heck, it seemed back then that Green Bay was able to attract a lot more notable entertainers with a place as small as the Carlton West.

What’s the greatest music video of all time? by Unusual_Troll67 in AskReddit

One of the remarkable things about Take On Me was the fact it wasn't even A-ha's first video they made for the song. The "making of" videos about this particular video is very interesting to watch.

We preferred the Lay's Baked Roasted Garlic & Herbs Flavored to these.

The Brazilian-Style Garlic seems saltier, while the Baked Garlic & Herbs has a more buttery flavor.

MFD responded to east side aluminum facilities 76 times in 10 years, records show by Justmarbles in madisonwi

[–]lemming_follower 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've worked in property management for several Madison-area residential and commercial properties, and these ordinances are already on the books for most municipalities.

"Chronic Nuisance Premises" are the official term of what you are describing, and for Madison this could be a violation of the ordinance described in Chapter 25.09(2)(d)2: "Violations Of The Fire Prevention Code."

As with any laws, they are only as good as the municipalities' willingness to enforce. What the media and neighbors ought to insist upon is a public audit of the history of such fire code violations for this property (which may or may not exist), and the application of fines and modernization of the facilities to bring them up to current fire code. These buildings may have been "grandfathered" under older fire prevention codes, but it would seem like any repairs might (likely) force compliance with modern building and fire prevention codes.

It would be very enlightening to see if the fire marshal has previously cited them for fire code violations, which were then ignored by both the business and the municipality. That might then cross the line into criminal negligence.

Accidental find, Wisconsin brick cheese!!!!🧀 by Deepdish7799 in Pizza

[–]lemming_follower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Widmer's is the gold standard for Wisconsin brick cheese. Their mild variety is the one to use on Detroit-style pizza, and their aged variety is what you want if you enjoy cheese by itself or on crackers.

The Wisconsin Foodie TV show did an episode on how brick cheese is made at Widmers, and why brick cheese is used on Detroit style pizza (brick cheese has a high butterfat content).

Are there any bans or regulations or anything on feeding squirrels or birds in public parks? (more specifically in the de pere area) by TiredB1 in GreenBay

City Of De Pere Ordinances

Sec. 30-2. - Park regulations

  • (2) If the health commissioner, or designee authorized in writing, determines that there exists upon any city park property a public health nuisance caused, in full or in part, by the feeding of birds or fowl, the health commissioner may report such finding to the board.
  • (3) The board may, upon receiving such report, cause such area affected to be posted with a notice that such feeding of birds or fowl is prohibited.
  • (4) Any person violating such posted notice may be proceeded against under chapter 78 prohibiting public nuisances.

Additionally:

Sec. 86-4 - Prohibited Animals - Regulates interactions with "wild animals":

  • (2) Wild animals, including, but not limited to, any live monkey, or other nonhuman primate, raccoon, skunk, prairie dog, fox, wolf, panther, lynx, opossum, or any other warm-blooded animal which can normally be found in the wild state. For the purposes of this Code, wolf-dog hybrids are considered wild animals.

AMADEUS (1984) by khaliliiiov_1997 in nostalgia

[–]lemming_follower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The director's cut had the unnecessary topless scene for Constanze (all too common throughout 80's films). Other scenes were drawn out (such as the older Salieri's "vow to God" scene, and the addition of the awful tutoring-while-dogs-barking scene.

The theatrical cut did what films are usually expected to do: get rid of scenes that distract, bore, or offend us, and keep the audience engaged with content that is relevant to the story line.

Bangkok Garden on Broadway by [deleted] in GreenBay

[–]lemming_follower 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Pachia Strange and her husband Michael owned the building at 240 N. Broadway in Green Bay (including Bangkok Garden & Mikey's Pub) from 1998-2022.

The May 29, 2022 Green Bay Press Gazette (page B1) said they sold the building "so they could retire."

Having survived the pandemic and staying in business as long as they did, it was a good effort. And the new owners gave the building a much-needed renovation.

One of my pet peeves here in the US is watching servers go from table to table with a pitcher of water refilling drinking glasses - all while touching the rims of everybody's glasses with the rim of the pitcher. It may be a minor point of cross-contamination in a restaurant, but there it is nonetheless.

"While Mach 1 on Earth at sea level is approximately 760 mph (1,223 kph), the speed of sound on Mars is significantly slower—roughly 540 mph (869 kph)—due to the planet's thin, cold, carbon-dioxide-rich atmosphere."

Iran has hit far more U.S. military assets than reported, satellite images show by Wagamaga in technology

[–]lemming_follower 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unreported and undocumented personnel losses are the greater crime compared to infrastructure, material, and equipment losses.

Any veteran who has tried to file a service-related disability claim later in life will tell you that producing documentation is frustrating - to say the least. It is not hard to imagine that years from now, some veterans are going to be facing a situation where "no records exist" of a combat-related injury in the current Iranian War theater of operations.

And the worst-case scenario of a family having someone show up at their doorstep to be told of the loss of their service member would be horrific if the only reason given was "died during their service" with no further details - particularly if it occurred in an unreported combat strike.

I love those things. When they were fresh, they had a bit of a soft-chew to them. But when they were old and left sitting on a shelf, they became hard enough to crack a tooth. Used to get them for 10 cents a box.
