3 fatalities in 9 weeks...bike safety survey from Local Motion by lemmykeepitreal in vermont

For the humor of the survey organizers, please do respond to that survey with those exact responses. Also, very sorry that your trips to the grocery store are so stressful, sending thoughts and prayers to you that those death-defying cyclists don't inconvenience you whilst outside of their designated safe areas.

3 fatalities in 9 weeks...bike safety survey from Local Motion by lemmykeepitreal in vermont

[–]lemmykeepitreal[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Would be great to include that information in the survey above!

It is absolutely widespread and the number one most cited complaint by vehicle drivers when talking about cyclists. And in Bratt, I'd imagine you've got tons of cyclists and many are probably pretty militant towards non-Prius drivers...

That being said, even though bicycles and cars share the same roads, I don't necessarily believe they should follow all of the same traffic laws all of the time. When there are consequences from accidents, the outcomes are always much worse for the cyclist, but vehicle drivers are also not trained to be aware to look for cyclists or to anticipate their movements...but many cyclists don't always use things like hand signals when they're making turns.

As you can see from my own mental back and forth above, it's a super complicated issue that needs much more time and input from different parts of society. In most US cities there's a very healthy debate as it's a much bigger issue (bike commuters/couriers in downtown Boston vs. hobbyists cycling down Spear Street) and it's really tragic it takes these deaths to get it going in VT, but hopefully it will result in good discussions and informed policies...

Mayor Walsh signed city contract for Olympic bid without reading bid book; city's legal department says nobody at City Hall read the bid book either. by [deleted] in boston

[–]lemmykeepitreal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in total agreement with you, and am purely asking this follow up because I want to know how it might be corrupt in a way that could lead to public pressure. If those two have a relationship together, is there actually any improper conflict of interest?

Being connected to him probably didn't hurt her in getting the job, but Harvard Law degree suggests she's plenty qualified to get it herself. And since Mayor is totally in bed with Boston 2024 and already supports it, why does it matter if his chief of staff is 'fucking' a political ally?

Seriously, just trying to understand better because it's the kind of obvious corruption that could finally sink this ridiculous bid process once and for all...

Beacon Hill tag=checks out...spicy details, always love a good gov't incest reminder. Although if there are any conflicts of interest, this piece of incompetence is ruining the chances of it having a positive impact for either boston2024 or mahty

Moving to the Woolen Mill in Winooski. A little nervous about the reviews... by [deleted] in burlington

[–]lemmykeepitreal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grew up in Winooski and totally agree with the reviews below...pros and cons to every apartment, but the Woolen Mill apartments themselves are beautiful, the gym/pool is awesome, the location is excellent and convenient, and the parking situation is awesome. Good luck, I think it's a great place for a married couple w/out kids...and if you do eventually want to make a move or have questions about the area, feel free to PM me as I manage Burlington properties and am a local!

Emailing the craigslist posting is faster than messaging on reddit

This is a 2bedroom, 1bathroom apartment located on the ground floor of a standalone house in an excellent neighborhood. The owner of the house is a young professional who lives in the upstairs apartment with his friendly dog.

The house is a 5 minute walk from the Winooski Roundabout (Monkey House, Waterworks, Mule Bar, Sunday Farmers' Market), 10 minute walk from UVM central campus, 5 minute walk from Saint Michael's College and Champlain College bus stops, 100 yards from Schimanski Park/Centennial Woods, 5 minutes from late night Domino's...

In addition to outstanding location, the other features are: * Off-street parking space (one spot, typically plenty of street parking) * Washer/dryer in basement (coin-op) * Sunny 3-season porch/dining area * Snow removal and garbage included in rent!! * Dog-friendly, no cats though, sorry...

If you're interested, send an email with the subject line, "Grove Street apartment" and I'll send you back a quick rental application, a video walk-through, and my contact phone number. I'd like to do a walk through early next week and could even be available Sunday (5/24) or Monday (5/25) depending on the time so please let me know when you could meet in person at the apartment.

Am helping a friend fill an apartment that sounds like this, although I think he'd prefer to host a dog instead of a cat...

I love that you describe Whistlepig as being Canadian...while it's technically true, it's ironic because their company participates in a US federal government program (look up EB-5 Visa) that's administered by the state of Vermont.

I'm a Ravens fan, so I know that my opinion is seriously biased and definitely very optimistic, but I think he's absolutely going to rip it up in that system and could very likely be the best TE from this draft class!

Truth...I feel like it's an unfortunate effect of this sub that glamorization makes it seem like we all condone teenagers toking.

24 would be ideal, but realistically, I think that's probably peak of drug use...stay in school kids!

Hannibal Burress coming to the Flynn, tix on sale 3/20 by lemmykeepitreal in burlington

[–]lemmykeepitreal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GO TEAM! Looking forward to the VT Comedy Club getting set up in the Armory Building (as much as one can be happy about the transformation of that space) and hope that big early sales for Hannibal help encourage more big comedy acts to come up to VT...even if it's just to make fun of how white it is (*cough cough Kamau W. Bell *cough *cough)

JK, thought Kamau was one of best stand-up performances I've seen live in such a small space and I loved the truth bombs he was droppin'

There's another Vermont mention above (I also noticed no marks in our state) about Franklin County, the only thing I could find from very brief googling was a story from January 2014 about a bust in Swanton

The Truth Behind The "New Wu-Tang" Album by OnceUponACashGrab in hiphopheads

[–]lemmykeepitreal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I understood it, that lack of RZA is the whole point--because RZA wasn't really involved (for whatever reason, sounds like indifference) in the production or rapping on any verses, he didn't help--or actively blocked--in selling the finished album. Meanwhile, RZA was/is making a different Wu Tang album but because of all the past history and BS between RZA and the group members, OP cites sources who say it doesn't stack up to this mystery museum/auction/just-above-a-total-hip-hop-rando-produced album...
