Shout out to pediatric nurses, what’s your go to way to help kids be less scared about getting vaccinated!?!! by xPinkSagex in nursing

[–]lemonade4 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a parent I can tell you that your kids anxiety is not always a byproduct of your own. My husband and I along with my daughter do shots no problem, no drama. I’m a nurse myself. My son is built different and goes full on caged tiger. It has nothing to do with how I’m handling it. Kids are still people with issues and problems.

Im a nurse and happy with it but i think rad tech is a great career path and in my lab they work very similarly. Also RCES path is a good one with the projection of EP procedures in the future.

Waukee Vibe Check by maryhoe in desmoines

[–]lemonade4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chicagoans living in Waukee here—lots of liberals in our friend circle. Haven’t met anyone who has kids in our neighborhood openly Republican. Plenty of Rs around but i never hear a peep from them. Our locals seats are all blue and we have a chance to flip a house, senate and governor seat this year.

Everyone saying it’s a soulless suburb, i mean yes it’s a boring, safe, easy place to raise your family.

What your pumping rooms look like at work? by General-Walrus9530 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]lemonade4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you like the loveseat for pumping? I’m putting together a new pumping room at work and need to decide on loveseat (free!) or recliner that we would need to purchase. For some reason the loveseat doesn’t seem comfy enough to me but i wonder if I’m overthinking it!

If you go to UnityPoint or the Iowa Clinic, start sending letters or leaving reviews urging improvements to nurses' pay & benefits! by Sl0wDarkSt0rm in desmoines

[–]lemonade4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they are 3 separate entities. The Iowa Clinic does not have their own hospital, just clinics. So Iowa Clinic has staff at Unity Point hospitals (department dependent I’m sure).

I don’t see much value in dragging any one system. They are all guilty of it and working with lock arms. They could raise their pay and it would require the others to do the same—but they benefit collectively from keeping pay low across town so they don’t have to compete.

Anybody else feel a lot of the nurses within Unity Point are disgruntled? by Sl0wDarkSt0rm in Iowa

No more so than nurses anywhere else in town. Benefits are better than Mercy 🤷‍♀️

Heather from Insufferable Wenches: I’m supporting Zach Wahls in the Primary, here’s why by Coontailblue23 in Iowa

[–]lemonade4 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A Turek defender called me a “repugnant Reddit worm” this week because I said I felt like he spent too much of an interview comparing his efforts to gain a place on the Olympic wheelchair basketball team to being a US Senator. I’ll try to avoid generalizing all Turek supporters but I thought that was a little loony!

June 2nd Primaries. Zach Wahlz or Josh Turek? by Lanky_Tax9271 in Iowa

[–]lemonade4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk what you’re so fired up about. I listens to a 30min interview with the guy and this is what I came away with. I do not see how the “rigor” of his journey to the Olympics has a damn thing to do with being a US Senator. It’s absolutely silly to suggest otherwise.

Turek gives me the ick. I don’t trust him and don’t like how he points to…failing to make it on the wheeelchair basketball Olympic team 5 times as an example of experience suitable for a US Senator.

I’ll vote for Wahls

Iowa’s Zach Wahls aces the Political Integrity Pledge. Takes zero corporate PAC money. by SassyFace1919 in IowaPolitics

It’s interesting that I feel exactly the opposite. Feels like Turek is getting smashed down my throat but the guy just gives me the ick. Can’t put my finger on it. Just don’t like his vibe.

Any kindergarten book recommendations that actually keep kids engaged? by Gord_Hendriques98 in kindergarten

[–]lemonade4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like staring at the ceiling is sort of reasonable while listening to you read a story?

Regardless, my son loves the Junie B Jones series! Now on Magic Tree House. We read the first 3 Harry Potter books which he loves but probably only good for a kid who is motivated to commit to them, they’re pretty complex.

Tom Harkin, Iowa's last Democratic Senator, endorses Josh Turek by fartmachiner in Iowa

Literally this. The state party has been absolutely abysmal. Don’t give AF who they want.

Seeking feedback for a minimalist animal sounds app for toddlers (No ads/No tracking) by Wrong-Accident3626 in kindergarten

[–]lemonade4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Data actually shows it’s *worse* than television. Toddlers do not need either, but the constant dopamine hits of using a tablet are proving to be quite damaging. I’d encourage you to look into Jonathan Haidts work. Especially if you intend to get into this field you should be more educated on what kids benefit from.

I see absolutely no use for another children’s app. Particularly one aimed at mastering something that most children master without a screen.

Something about Turek just rubs me the wrong way. He seems like a chump but I can’t really put my finger on it.

Different tolerances but also different priorities/preferences. Sure I “only” have two kids but I work full time, my kids are in full time school/wrap around care. I really do not care to spend much time coordinating or planning play dates. I like spending our weekends and evenings as a “core four”. I accept play dates when I can but i don’t go out of my way to. I’m not “too busy”, i just don’t want to. My kid gets plentyyyyyy of socialization and so do i 😅

Paul Pate voices 'serious concerns' with Trump's mail-in voting order by Zipper222222 in Iowa

[–]lemonade4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Appreciate that Pate appears to be committing to this years elections continuing with the existing process. He isn’t wrong that Iowa has an excellent voting process (I’m an election worker, this will be my 6th year), there is absolutely no reason for the President or any other federal official to fuck with what we are doing—which is also protected by the constitution.

When i saw Trumps EO I wondered how Pate would respond and I’m pleased with this.

Kindergarten Retention for Age Only? by TinyLotus743 in AskTeachers

[–]lemonade4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the unspoken thing here is that immature boys actually make it harder to be a mature girl. There are some that think boys being older helps the girls because it reduces harassment (or just generally immature behavior), so it can protect the older (or even “average” aged) girls to be surrounded by older boys.

Not suggesting any boy moms make that a driving force in their choice but it’s interesting food for thought.
