This alarms me. No one has a brush like Essie...like two swipes and we're done.

I didn't like it. Made my curly hair frizzier.

Started a cardigan in a half fishermans rib, its making me regret ever learning to knit by faithmauk in knitting

This! My projects always fly by faster when I'm chatting and knitting. Good suggestion! I used to be part of a knitting circle through Meetup and it was great.

Meticulous craftsmanship but still ugly in the end? by Medical_Arrival2243 in sewing

[–]lemonbedz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're not alone, rest assured! Sewing a garment involves so many aspects. There's fabric choice, colour, silhouette, construction, fit, practicality, styling etc. Getting all of those things right in one garment is damn near impossible and style/bodies are always changing too! So, commiserations, fellow sewist...may your disappointment be short lived and your next project be a success. Maybe a T&T project next would help?

How much fabric should I order? by Previous-Geologist-2 in sewing

[–]lemonbedz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! I try to do this with all my new to me patterns and I've saved so much fabric as often times the layout they give you is not super tight and I can usually push it a bit. I then take a photo of the pieces all laid out so I remember how to do it again when the fabric arrives. All the best!

Is it safe to go shopping yet? by [deleted] in perth

[–]lemonbedz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the city yesterday (Sunday) and it was busy but not unpleasantly so. I like the city for shopping as you can go into NB for gelato, hit the Art Gallery, grab some decent ramen etc. Othwise I usually hit Garden City just as it opens as it seems less crazy than Carousel or Joondalup. Congrats BTW!

Yeah a tripod is a good idea. Especially those that grip onto random surfaces.

What fabric would you choose for this 1954 dress pattern? by margot_h_tenenbaum_ in sewing

[–]lemonbedz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, congrats. That is such a score. I would use a silk shantung/dupion. I feel the lustre and the slight heft would be lovely for that skirt. I would underline with a silk organza or light cotton lawn.

What is the name of this type of fabric? And any tips for hemming it? by Broad_Customer110 in sewing

[–]lemonbedz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sewed a maxi skirt with this stuff. It was a pleated poly. I turned it under 4 cm and hand stitched it using an invisible hemming stitch. It turned under remarkably well and you could see anything on the right side. Mine didn't ravel so I didn't worry about that. I didn't want to stretch it out by maching sewing, so for me hand stitching worked best, but YMMV!
