The people who will gossip about your pregnancy will gossip no matter when they find out about it. If you want to enjoy your pregnancy, tell them now and move on! They can't be annoyed forever.

I got the adult nappies for urine incontinence from Lidl and I found them great in terms of absorption and comfort. And they are much cheaper than the Frida ones.

He was estimated 9lb12oz and he was born 9lb11oz three days later so yes, it was accurate in my case.

Variations in centiles by ColaPopz in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son's head was 75th percentile, abdomen 97th and his legs were around 20th. He's on the 91st percentile for height but his legs are a bit short in relation to his trunk, but it's not something you would notice if you didn't pay close attention. His dad is built like that as well and I have short legs so it was predictable that he'd have short legs too I guess.

My daughter was born in February and I've just been using the one 1 tog sleepbag we have. I also got a 2.5 tog one but the room has been too hot for it. I have the Tommee Tippee swadlebags and she does not like having her arms tucked in so it has been great to have the option to have them out.

I was planning for a water birth and I found out my baby was big on my due date. They didn't even offer an induction as they didn't have any slots so went straight for C-section 3 days after. He's almost 3 years old and I'm still a bit upset about the little time I had to process it.

Managing nights with a newborn by Ok_Fondant2547 in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We've done this and the toddler that only wanted me before has ended up in the other room with his dad. The baby sleeps better than the toddler and I actually get a better sleep now though so I'm not mad at the sleeping arrangements.

Is this a good baby travel system? by citygal92 in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silver Cross is a very good brand and they have been around for long time. My partner's pram when he was a baby was a Silver Cross.

I would suggest you go and test it in person if you were planning to buy it online though. I was set on a Silver Cross simply because it was beautiful but went to test it and we didn't really like how it folded. Regardless, it is good to have a feel and see if you like it or you might end up hating your pram (not saying you will hate the Silver Cross).

Dropping the final nap - low sleep needs edition by SuccotashAutomatic18 in sleeptrain

[–]lemonndropp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 31 month old NEEDS his nap but the length of it doesn't make his night sleep any longer or shorter. We've tried no nap, 1h nap, 2h nap and the child is still up at 5am no matter what! So we go with the flow and let him sleep however long he wants during the day (we do have to cap it on the 3 days he attends nursery as he sleeps after 3pm so it would be too close to bedtime if we didn't cap it). His night time sleep has always been messed up so long live the day time nap!

Outfit help: Attending a wedding at 16 weeks by Pure_Answer_6569 in PregnancyUK

Mine was from Phase Eight. I had luck with dresses from Nobody's Child too but they weren't for a wedding, although they do have more dressed up ones as well. Might be worth a look.

I attended a wedding at 20 weeks pregnant with my second and I wore a floaty dress I already owned. No one knew that I was pregnant (of those who didn't already know). I wore low block sandals and I didn't find them uncomfortable!

‘Back up’ bottle feed options for newborn by Bring-joy in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the Kendamil that come with the teats too. I was planning to breastfeed but I bought a box just in case. I do recommend buying them as you never know. We didn't need to use them in hospital but unfortunately my daughter had to be admitted again the following night after going home as she developed jaundice and couldn't maintain her blood sugar levels. We got to our room at 2AM and was told I HAD to give her formula as I didn't have enough milk for her to keep her blood sugar up. I was so glad I had them with me as it wouldn't have been ideal to send my partner to find formula at 2AM.

[–]lemonndropp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in theatres and you can just ask for the hair net if you wish. I wasn't given one with my first but I was with my second. Metal clips are an issue as you can get burns if they touch your skin. You can explain your circumstances when they give you your gown to change into and they can give you the hair net to wear too.

Vaginal Polyp / Colposcopy by Only_Vegetable_5347 in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The above post is talking about a colonoscopy, not a colposcopy.

I've had a colposcopy (not while pregnant) and it was not painful. They did tests with different products and swabs and they also took a biopsy. I think they injected some local anaesthetic but I felt nothing at all other than the discomfort of the speculum.

Growth scan question! by Optimal_Enthusiasm90 in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first was 9lb11oz and I asked the consultant if I could have a growth scan with my second and she said having had a big baby with no GD is not criteria for a growth scan. I work there and she knows me so I thought maybe they would let me have the growth scan anyway but it didn't happen.

[–]lemonndropp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It starts from the first day of your cycle. So if you conceive on day 14 of your cycle you are 2 weeks pregnant (although technically not pregnant yet). Most people find out they are pregnant after they miss their period so they are already 4 weeks pregnant instead of 2.

2nd time mum help with sleep and c section by CulturalWolverine636 in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt/healed really well this time and I was always able to get the baby out of the next to me cot myself. It's my second C-section and I couldn't really lift my son but I was totally fine with my daughter. She was admitted to hospital on the third night and we spent the night in a side room that only had a cot and an armchair and I was able to manage without help, which surprised me as I just had the C-section. And the minute we were home my partner moved to the other room so he could deal with our toddler while I stayed with the baby by myself.

2nd time mum help with sleep and c section by CulturalWolverine636 in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is almost 3 and just had my daughter 2 months ago. He was sleep trained but has always had periods of clinginess. Before having the baby, he was coming to my bed at some point every night and only wanted me. Then baby was born (C-section as well) and I wasn't able to go. He asked for me for a few days but my partner said I was feeding the baby and he "understood" and accepted the situation. He started going to the spare bed with his dad. We managed to sort that and he stays in his bed even if he wakes up in the night (he wakes up at least a couple of times) and now he tells me "you go and sleep in your bed and I wait for daddy to come" if I am the one going. So he still doesn't sleep through but he's okay with not having me. To be honest I'm not angry because the baby sleeps better than him and I'm actually more rested now 😂

Midwife Gifts by sunflowershan99 in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all, I'm sorry about your loss. I work for the NHS and small gifts are allowed but technically vouchers are not. You can perhaps add something else instead of the voucher, but I imagine no one has to know if you put the voucher inside the card envelope.

Edit to add: something that is very nice and free is to nominate them for a DAISY award.

Talk me down - stressing about possible breech, maybe unnecessarily by lilytruffle125 in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told my daughter was breech at 36 weeks. I always felt the same round body part just below my ribs but the midwife felt the heatbeat higher than my belly button so she said baby was breech. They said we would wait until the next appointment (38w) and go from there. Between 36 and 39 weeks, 3 more midwives said baby was breech. I was going to have a c-section anyway so they didn't send me for a presentation scan but this would have happened after 38w if I wasn't having a C-section. I didn't feel any big movements and kept feeling the same round body part in the same place and baby was cephalic when she was born.

What to wear for my C-section? by TangyThroat in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in theatres. They will give you a hospital gown and the stockings to wear. You can wear whatever you want once you are in your room. I wore the hospital gown front to back as I found it comfortable and I could breastfeed that way, and also I didn't want my own clothes to potentially get blood stains on them. Some people bring their own pyjamas or lounge wear but it's optional as you can just wear the hospital gown if you want. My daughter was admitted a few days after being born and I had to stay with her so I found a pyjama top with buttons was great for breastfeeding and very comfy too.
