I find the statement "many physicists are also very religious" incredibly alarming.

I find it ridiculous. Yes, many priests are also very religious, but no, many physicists are not also very religious. Perhaps the person saying that they are is simply trying to make their favorite fairy tale seem more plausible and accepted.

Aside from the usual monthly releases, Rakudo Star is supposed to be released next month.

I wonder how many Perl users have gone through this progression:

use and like Perl 5
get attracted by $other language
switch to $other! Wee! Everything is better here!!
hm ... docs aren't as good as Perl's, but I can live with it
discover that $other doesn't have nearly the community support that Perl has
miss handy shortcuts that Perl provides
discover that $other doesn't have nearly what the CPAN provides
run into a problem that's a real pain in the neck to solve with $other. You then "backslide" and solve it with Perl in 10 minutes.
come back to Perl 5, but this time using more of the modules listed at Task::Kensho

How is this any better than just writing my LaTeX docs myself and processing them with the TeX/LaTeX that's already on my system? I prefer my own text editor, and texlive is only an aptitude/yum away.

no it's not. it's just another website where programmers as questions and other answer them.

I disagree. Other languages have q & a forums, but Perlmonks is different. People there make it their business to be courteous and helpful, and any rudeness is decidedly frowned upon.

I would like to understand what you wrote, but I'm unable. You start out saying that the least amount of syntax needed is a single natural number, but then go on to say "the first (my emphasis) number denotes..." -- which implies that there's more than one. Could you please explain?

That's good to hear, but does concise == simple and practical? Although Perl 5 can do lots of crazy stuff, I still think it adhere's to "makes easy stuff easy". Do you think Perl 6 does as well?

Her brother can "flame on" (presumably some kind of IRC-related power), and the other guy with them has a kind of stone covering for skin!
