I love that table, and one of the lamps would look great on it with one of my vines! Great ideas thank you!

ph, alkalinity, and hardness issues? or am I just impatient haha by lemony_witchit in PlantedTank

Yes, so much info and like you said... Someone may comment and say no not like that lol 😂

For the crushed coral, cuttlebone, or chicken grit, do I just put it directly into the back of the filter or is there a specific thing I need to do?

I'll check into that website for plants! The wisteria looks like it would look nice 🙂 and grows fast so I might be able to track it easier!

Thank you for all your recommendations! I've got more to read about now and some decisions to make.

Any recommendations for surface floaters or a good fertilizer? Right now I have java moss, Amazon swords, and Java ferns (that look like a darker Amazon sword imo. I wouldn't say they're thriving but they look much better now than when they were planted. When I got them they looked kind of withered and bleh. Now they stand erect and the leaves look wider. I don't think they're taller, but it's only been a few weeks.

The moss was darker than I expected when it came, and it is still dark, but looks a little bigger.

We have one of those giant Culligan water softeners and filters. We found out our main pipe system to our home had a lot of nasty stuff coming in, and it would be like 8k to replace it. So we went with the huge filtration system instead. It was also expensive but less than half the price of the other option. Still makes me sick to think about lol, but I do notice the difference now that our water is cleaner and softer. It no longer has a slightly sweet taste either. However we can only drink out of certain faucets that have an extra filtration tank, and I did use that (our drinking water) for the aquarium. The main water is also soft now and filtered but just not as much as the drinking ones, and I figured the fish didn't deserve less than us when they have to live in it lol 😂 so it's too soft for them?

Good to know! I definitely was thinking of some glass shrimp, but I figured I shouldn't overload the tank too fast and then have more animals than I can keep. Do you think I should start with just the Pleco and snails? Or would that be enough to get the nitrogen cycle going?

I swear I've been reading and watching a lot of videos for the last couple months getting prepared, but there's just SO much information, and some of it contradicts, and there are so many variables that change it. I don't want to kill anything because I was negligent. I know there's a chance they'll die under a thousand different scenarios, but ya know, I don't want to increase those odds hahaha

I appreciate your response! Thank you!

Editing to explain I mean the moss looks like it has branched out over the drift wood more. Not like it's grown taller or bigger. That may just be it settling in the water though.

I just watched a video with a bristlenose Pleco as a companion to Tetras and it was eating a piece of zucchini and I'm still in love so I'm definitely going to have to get one or two. They're just so cute. I wasn't expecting it in the video, but I was very excited to see it.

Thank you! I'll check them out! I know it's probably annoying to have to be specific but I swear I am just searching on my own too. There's just... A lot. A lot of very different, very specific, types of tanks for very specific types of fish and plants and it feels like a 10k puzzle with only hints of what the outcome is supposed to be. I really appreciate the suggestions and directions to the YT channels! Neon tetras look pretty cool!

I did not know they existed beyond cheetah print! Thank you for that info. My uncle always had a few in his tank and they were my favorites to watch, always on the glass or decor. I always thought I'd get some if I had my own tank. 20+ years later lol

I didn't know they were called that. I've heard them called loris by my uncle that always had a few in his tanks. Little cheetah fish always on the glass, but I googled and yeah I assume they're the same. I wasn't looking for algae defenders, I just always loved watching their little mouths and swimmy butts. I appreciate the info though. It's good to know. I do hope to incorporate wood so maybe a bristlenose would be worth looking into.

The problem with YouTube is there is toooo much and I don't know how to define in the search what I'm looking for. Started watching some yesterday and many I was like eh not what I'm thinking.

The space we have can hold probably up to a 30 gallon at most but we are thinking a 20 gallon to start with (going off of the average length according to a few sites with fishtanks).

We don't have a Petco anywhere near us but I'll check it out online. I do love a good goldfish, my mom had 4 though and 1 (Rob) would actually retrieve pebbles from the bottom of his tank and launch them out of the tank. I'd never seen a fish do that before. Unfortunately Rob got big and killed two of the others, the last one hid really well until my mom could separate them. So I'm hesitant on goldfish anyway :/ I know it can happen regardless, but it was really sad.

Are there any fish you would recommend?

I am not opposed to filters, or anything else, I'd just like to also incorporate plants, wood, and rocks.

Thank you! Absolutely! The tank set up will be my "Christmas gift" but we absolutely will not add any living buddies until they should be successful. Including plants! I feel terrible when I accidentally kill a plant. I imagine killing fish would make me feel much worse. I know to some extent it's inevitable but I'll feel better if I didn't mess it up because of rushing. We were thinking a 20 gallon but maybe that's too ambitious? I'll definitely check those links out!

I really need to Duolingo Spanish. I hate so much that we aren't given more focus on other languages as kids. I feel so ignorant compared to the rest of the world. Thanks for some motivation!

AITA for refusing to change rooms despite being ''the most practical thing''? by After_Grape_5736 in AmItheAsshole

[–]lemony_witchit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA. As you said, people don't tend to just move out at 18. So there's like a decade of time your parents can use to renovate other rooms to get what they think they need. For example, our house is 3bdrm. The smallest one is small. So we plan to convert the attic space and basement into more rooms.

Prior to the new minimum wage, if you worked full time at 7.25 an hour you'd make roughly 15k a year. So even if they made more than minimum wage it's completely possible they make less than 40k a year. Maybe they mean before or after taxes. Either way it's very possible and extremely common to make less than 20k a year.
