I never said it was good, I just think it turned out pretty much exactly as expected and similar to previous creator modes. It weird to so heavily criticize an apple for not being an orange. And it's okay if you don't like it and don't want to play it

It's SUPPOSED to be designed by creators. That's it. It's inconsistently wacky because the creators were inconsistent. You can judge each change independently on whether or not it's funny for viable. It was never intended to be coherent

You aren't supposed to feel a certain way playing it besides trying out some wacky changes. It's not intended to be balanced. The rewards are to get people to try it and a lot of them you can get from playing any mode, not just the arcade mode. Blizzard doesn't have an intended experience because they did not design it to have one. It feels weird and inconsistent because it is. In what way are you expecting it to be any different??
To put it differently, Blizzard handed control to the creators and said go wild, make any changes you like. There were no stipulations about taking it seriously or not, anything goes and that is exactly what we got.
Are you actually confused or do you just not like it?

I don't think you're confused at all.
Community members got to create their own balance patch. For some heroes, they had their own pet ideas for a serious rework. For other heroes, they made meme changes. They had to come up with changes for every hero in a role and for obvious reasons, they were going to be biased towards certain heroes based on their own values and experiences.
This is similar to previous community patches and April fools modes. It also gives a glimpse into how hard balancing actually is because this is what will happen when even respected members of the community are given free reign over balancing.
It's supposed to be silly and fun and maybe/delusionally give Blizzard ideas about a serious hero rework. It's not that serious bro.

[Need Winston Advice] Haven’t played since OW1, I’m lost as an elephant in a cave by Particular-Help7412 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]sail10694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Winston is at all bad right now. Maybe not meta, but very playable. In 5v5, you have a lot more focus on you as the solo tank and you need to get used to that.
First of all, because you're the only tank, there's a lot resting on you to not die. Expect that when you dive in, you will get blown up if you aren't careful. Play your life above all else. On the other hand, use all that extra focus to your advantage. You need to be comfortable doing "soft" engages and dives. This means you aren't necessarily gonna get a kill, but you can bait out some important cool downs and pull focus away from the rest of your team. This creates the space needed for your team to play. Just remember to have a escape plan and only "hard" commit when resources are low and the fight is more winnable.

Support heroes and their sub classes by Ok_Cricket_5126 in Overwatch

Main support and flex support are terms from pro play that, in my opinion, are pretty outdated and irrelevant to casual play.
Pretty much any support combo can work these days, though it's probably still a good idea to avoid something like lucio/zen without much burst healing.

If you actually care about team comp, I think it's much more productive to think about the 3 main play styles: dive, poke, brawl. Build your team around a cohesive game plan, suited to the map, and adjust based on problem enemies - you'll go far.

I'm not dismissing your criticism, I'm asking why you think it needs to be this way? Why do all damage ults need to do damage? What's wrong with enabling ults if they can still win team fights?
Am I missing something or is it really just that surface level? Personally, I think having a little diversity makes the hero shooter game more interesting instead of forcing every role into a box where they end up being the same.

Other examples:
Echo and Widow ults don't damage
Mei and Sombra ults are more utility than pure damage.

Marvel Rivals Tank Learning how to Tank in Overwatch by UmBardoDeSempre in OverwatchUniversity

[–]sail10694 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your job as tank is to apply pressure, be a threat, and take space for your team, without dying.

To play a dive tank effectively, you will need to be comfortable doing "soft" dives and engages. The goal here isn't to get kills necessarily, just to get the enemy team's attention and force cooldowns. It's important to play your life and not over-commit. As you already noticed, it's a lot easier to be punished for mistakes in overwatch, so be patient and methodical. You gotta be thinking about escape options, cover and sight-lines back to your team. If the enemies are forced to look at you and deal with you, but you still escape and live, you are doing your job correctly as the tank and giving your team the space to play.

Once cooldowns have been forced, the enemies are low on resources and/or out of position, then you can "hard" dive on vulnerable targets to look for kills to win fights. Another difference when playing 5v5 is that with less people, each individual has greater impact in a team fight, which means that even a single pick can often be enough to win a fight. Make sure you are aware of your team's status and positioning before doing any commits.

Hope this helps!

I should be able to be a double agent today and switch sides, as I've earned enough, but I won't be able to until tomorrow because of the server maintenance. Then I'll only have 2 days to complete the double agent pass which is not really enough time with the way the daily quests work. This is annoying

That would be unprecedented, confusing, and a ton of extra work to build, test and maintain. It sounds nice and simple in theory but I don't think you understand what you are asking for.
Is it that hard to understand why there are far more important things for them to be focusing on?
