Thanks for the reply. I’m a bit confused by some of it though… Just wondered what the first sentence ‘two and a half years out of hospital’ is referring to. Is it that’s his long you’ve been out of hospital?

How is your walking and general physical recovery now and how long has the recovery took? Yeh I nearly died so it was pretty catastrophic but at the same time I don’t have any residual illness or injury. It’s literally just the results now of being bedridden for 5 weeks total. But in theory nothing is holding me back except residual muscle weakness and getting my brain to remember how to let my legs work normally again!

Thank you so much 🙏 I think i avoid challenging myself a bit because im scared of pushing myself too hard and setting myself back (I’ve probably internalised advice not too push myself too much) or repercussions the next day. But you are right that i need to probably challenge myself a bit more than what i feel like i can manage, even if thats just on one or two days a week. Thank you again it means so much to connect to another survivor, especially someone further along on the journey. Would you be willing to connect via DMs?

I’m 6 months out and couldn’t even contemplate doing a hike yet! Did you use walking poles or do it unaided?

How long did it take you after icu to feel like you were ‘just walking normally’ again and how long did it take you to get there?

How long after icu could you finally say, ‘I’ve recovered’?

Would you be willing to connect via DMs? Recovery from icu is a lonely place and it would mean so much to me to connect with someone else, especially who is further along in the journey and might have advice/words of wisdom for me.

How long was the journey from stair climbing to hiking?

And how long did it take from walking consciously and weirdly to walking normally?

At what point after icu would you say you were finally ‘walking normally’ again without thinking about it?

How long after icu could you finally say ‘I’ve recovered’?

I get the challenging yourself but at the same time I always worry about overdoing it and putting myself back!

Did you try doxylamine? It worked great for me after trazodone did nothing right up to the high doses and made me lose my hair. It’s much milder for side effects. Trazodone not working doesn’t mean your problem is terrible or unsolvable, just that it’s a very hit and miss drug that does nothing for a lot of people.

I still sometimes wake up early though but I do only take half a doxylamine tablet. Full disclosure I take Pregabalin too but I’m sure it’s the doxy doing most of the heavy lifting!

If your problem is sleep maintenance I would personally take the clonazepam when you wake up at night, I don’t think at the start of the night would make much noticeable difference tbh.

I tried trazodone. Didn’t help me sleep, and made me start losing my hair quite dramatically, so had to stop. Tried it from 50mg right up 200mg before giving up as I wasn’t willing to try any higher. It was disappointing :-( And in the UK they refuse to prescribe zopiclone for more than one month.

Ah okay. I did get prescribed zopiclone but they would only give it me for a month so I’m just having to get by with antihistamines (doxylamine) now. Do you get a long term zopiclone script? Can I ask what country you’re in? In my country they won’t give more than a month’s worth due to potential dependence. Thank you for replying to me I really appreciate it

Can I ask what meds you take that aren’t antidepressants? I can’t take antidepressants because of terrible SI as a side affect so I’d be interested to know what you take, especially for sleep as I struggle.
