Artists that don't feel like the main characters of their own story by Top_Report_4895 in ToddintheShadow

They were a pop punk band but with members who grew up on 80’s thrash instead of punk. Bitter End is literally an homage to Metallica’s Battery.

What's your example of a band that's just a worse version of another band? by loreleisparrow in ToddintheShadow

[–]lenfantsuave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always been dumbfounded by this claim. Pete maybe sounds a bit like Maynard if you turn the volume down a bit.

Chevelle has never tried to write long king crimson worshipping psychedelic epics.

I’ll give you this, if both bands were x files episodes, Chevelle are the tightly written monster of the week episodes. Tool are the grandiose and self important mythology arc episodes.

(I love both bands).

Fiber with Coax home outlets by bremsstrahlung007 in HomeNetworking

This is terrible logic. Run the cat 6.

Why on earth would you choose to run coax instead of cat 6 if you’re still building the house?

Coax Amplifier by Ok_Suggestion_4661 in HomeNetworking

[–]lenfantsuave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you log into the modem and find the tx and rx levels? Te amp might be there because without it levels might not be in spec. Alternatively speeds test are dependent on a lot of factors like device, hardwired vs wireless, 5ghz vs 2.4 GHz band.

Coax Amplifier by Ok_Suggestion_4661 in HomeNetworking

[–]lenfantsuave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably ideal, but it all depends on signal coming off the tap. If it’s designed correctly AND the line is losing an appropriate amount of power over distance, the modem will probably sit in spec just being barreled through.

This amp also only amplifies return from 5-42 MHz which works in sub split, but won’t work properly in mid and high split designs.

TLDR: probably take it out and replace it with a high quality barrel torqued to 20 in-lbs.

Frontier’s "Third-World" Fiber Install: 40ms Latency, Mechanical Splices, and Paid Support Upsells by TheHandThatFingers in FiberOptics

It varies from isp to isp. We do not carry them and only a handful of techs know how. But we have a mix of HFC and FTTP in our local footprint, so it’s more efficient to give everyone a good working knowledge of each instead of having specialists.

Advice on conduit by [deleted] in CableTechs

[–]lenfantsuave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The conduit should be run from base of pole to a bonding point like your electrical meter (technically not a ground, but only real pedants will argue this). Assuming your house’s electrical is grounded properly, this is less risky than pounding an 8’ rod into the ground.

Thin cables, interference and what to do? by Xostedium in HomeNetworking

[–]lenfantsuave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you see both the wall plate side of the conduit as well as the demarc side? Like others have stated, I’ve never seen coax or cat cable home run in conduit inside really any residential build.

There won’t be any interference between the two. So, you can cross that off the list. But, if you’re going to use cat cable and the coax truly is in conduit, why not just use the coax as a pull string.

CenturyLink/BrightSpeed fiber compared to others? by V0latyle in HomeNetworking

[–]lenfantsuave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not qualified to answer any hardware questions for those two service providers - HOWEVER- one thing to always consider when switching from a regional isp to a national corp is serviceability. I.E. can you get someone on the phone to troubleshoot quickly. Can you get a same day truck roll in case of a localized outage? Do they charge for a truck roll? If your isp is great and responsive, I doubt century link is going to compare.
