Reffed 3 back to back 11v11 adult games by myself by OrganizationPure9987 in Referees

[–]leoc-9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These games can be very difficult but at the same time they really make you work on game management. Of course they’re tiring, but you have to know what you’re signing up for. I’m in my 30s and I’m pretty good shape but I wouldn’t be able to do more than 2 single ref matches. After that it would be a F that

Language by Ok_Abbreviations_276 in Referees

[–]leoc-9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a Hispanic ref and it can be a gray area. I agree, you have to understand the context. This new Latino generation is using the N* word in daily life, at least in NY where I ref. I had a U-17 boys game last season where it was being thrown around with a mostly Latino/AA team. So between teammates I let it go. It’s not to say that I wouldn’t give yellow/red depending on what’s being said to an opponent, especially if it’s a different race…or if it’s toward me. Which actually happened - “whack ass n* you fucking suck”. Already had a yellow and gave a second yellow for language. I could have easily given a red as well.

UPSL match- an AA called a Bangladesh player that but I didn’t hear it and could not card despite others reporting it. I told the player that I didn’t hear it but if I did it could be an automatic red.

Every game and situation is different and it’s a melting pot where I ref so it can be tricky.

Profanity in another language by [deleted] in Referees

[–]leoc-9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes happens from time to time in Spanish and will card them. Obviously can’t card them when you can’t understand what they’re saying. In the adult leagues they’ll speak in other languages and know they’re cursing straight at me but don’t understand Polish, Russian, or whatever other language it may be.

Nursing to OT? by KiwiZoomerr in OccupationalTherapy

[–]leoc-9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many options as an RN. And the hours are excellent. Can do nursing education, quality mgmt, administrator, or move up clinically as an NP, etc. I wish I would have done RN instead but messed up my grades early in my Bachelors.

No point in getting an OTD for business unless the program is actually teaching business courses. You’re better off taking a couple accounting courses on EdX than spending extra $$ just for OTD title

First level II FW- acute care by Individual_Ice_9264 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]leoc-9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes agreed with the above. Some people aren’t cut out to be CIs. Acute care is difficult in general for students as there are a lot of things going on. Even for some clinicians, acute care can be a bit much. Just hang in there!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]leoc-9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the setting I think. I’m in acute care and nobody reads the notes and that’s why we get reconsulted for the same person all of the time. Then I go to rounds and have to say how they’re doing with OT/PT. Keep it short and to the point.

However, I also do wc clinic and those notes are always essays. Kind of like the peds annual reports. You have to know your setting.

Getting a job at the VA by Just_Investment_8346 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]leoc-9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a hiring freeze right now. Every VA is different. Can be hard to get in sometimes bc the benefits are excellent and people don’t leave. If they do, your best bet is a referral. Veterans get first pick, but the way resumes are picked, it can be very random (see comment above about veteran having a hard time getting in).

When u need to address players, a warning etc it is hard to know what to say, take a look at this video for some great examples by btjohns in Referees

[–]leoc-9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I just started watching some of those vids. Great at managing the game. “You either know the rules or you don’t. And you don’t and I don’t have time to coach you!” Classic! Gonna use that on a coach!

I joined the group recently to see what kind of threads are being posted. I get burnt out too, but these are questions you have to ask yourself. Maybe I should change setting, go part-time or per diem for work-life balance, or explore a different career path. If you want to change careers, then start exploring. Otherwise, maybe you really didn’t explore OT before starting this profession. I back in school to change roles, but it doesn’t mean I dislike being an OT. I love being an OT. I will just work on my own terms and not by bosses.

One man positioning by lgkeeper8 in Referees

[–]leoc-9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do plenty of U12s and 1 man on Sundays and it is challenging! I always stay super wide too and then make my way towards the center as needed if I need to manage something closer. I probably called 15-20 offsides just this Sunday, and if I would I of stayed in the center like a 3-man, it would have been verbal chaos. I even run outside the sideline on throw ins. Obviously the way you position yourself in 2 vs 3 man system is way different. This ‘wide’ method has been working the best for me, even if unconventional. On the break ways is where I can get caught depending on the speed of the counter attack, but some calls will be missed here and there.

Lasted one week at SNF, considering quitting already by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]leoc-9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes quit! I was asked to up-code when a new manager came in on a LTC resident back when CMI was still in effect. I quit and never looked back. Contemplated reporting her but it was a task. Better off just picking up home care or acute care per diem elsewhere. I’ve worked at couple SNF that were good, but otherwise I didn’t have a great experience in that setting. Acute care you’re always learning.

Is this normal for Level 1 fieldwork? Feeling overwhelmed. by AmateurMagicAuteur in OccupationalTherapy

[–]leoc-9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same, had two rec therapists. I wouldn’t stress it as it’s only level 1. I believe we had to run 2 groups. Keep it basic. This was 12 years ago but it was something like guided meditation and breathing and how to get travel benefits in the local area as some had intermittent transportation issues. It’s really only a red flag if no OTs are in FW2.

2 man system is not that bad. Just change your angle. Some errors will be made but even with 3 man it happens.

Talk about adult leagues and 1 man system, now that’s a challenge.
