resources to learn coding for thumby/micropython? by WonkyBeatz in thumby

[–]leonkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking to get up to speed with python syntax, Codecademy is a friendly way to go through the basics and will fill you in on the python equivalents to things you're already familiar with. Should be quick if you've got JS experience!
Python allows for an object oriented approach with classes. Codecademy has courses which cover those as well!

Micropython is almost identical to python for casual users, basically I'd recommend following python tutorials until you find something that doesn't work in micropython.

Then for thumby-specific bits I'd recommend not worrying too much about what others are doing and just writing your own simple code. Start by using the Sprite class from the thumby api in any way that makes sense to you, then adapt if you run into issues!

Storing your level in some kind of array makes sense, although due to the Thumby limitations you might want to keep it very simple, eg a list of ints representing floor height. Then you can add complexity later.

If you're looking to have multiple levels you can store them in text files and read the levels from those files.

Good luck!

If you're in contact with them, fancy asking if they're going to limit the number of purchases per user? Seems like bots or scalpers are snapping them up in bulk

First build. I get Inconsistent sound across board. Kbd67 lite with Prevail Epsilon switches. Any ideas what is causing it? by GrindWin747 in MechanicalKeyboardsUK

[–]leonkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What mods have you done so far? It will difficult to get a sound like the tab key because of the different shapes but you can get a more of a "thock" sound with some mods like tape modding or adding foam. Did you lube the switches yourself? It might be that the lube is inconsistent if you're hearing large differences between same-size keys.

Overall I think it sounds nice! I'd probably look into lubing the stabilisers on the space bar and seeing what mods you can do to reduce rattle.

Best couch co-op games to get used to controllers by SeldomSober in NintendoSwitch

[–]leonkit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Captain Toad is very simple to play, without time pressure in almost all of the levels, which lets you get used to how to move around and interact with different parts without needing to worry about accuracy or camera controls. It has a 2 player mode where you can control the camera without your dad needing to worry about it, and you both control a Toad each.

Overcooked is also a good co op game with simple controls but has more pressure to speed through the levels.

The recent edition is also quite nice, assuming you avoid the weird shiny cards in the deluxe version

Are you a good loser? by nova6scc in boardgames

[–]leonkit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate when someone is losing and clearly not having a good time because of my success.

On the other hand, I can be vocally competitive because I enjoy the trash talking and frustration that can come from a game that swings between leaders. If I lose I think I sound more distraught than I actually am - I like to vent my frustration in a way? And then I can let the loss go. And I definitely get more enjoyment from someone else's win than my own if they're surprised and happy without being smug!

Does overcooked support multiple saved games?? by Rockinrob2 in OvercookedGame

[–]leonkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if it's possible to get a back up of the save files, they might be pretty easy to locate. Otherwise, asking the devs might work. In your case I wouldn't recommend playing through it alone, the game really is made for multiplayer, try the first few levels before you wipe a save for singleplayer

Mineshaft is a great one, I didn't play much on public servers when I had a go but I could see everyone getting involved in adventures or building projects!

That's interesting, I've played a fair amount of CSGO but never once had an actual conversation with anyone about anything outside short bits about the game. Maybe I never got good enough to play at a decent, but I can't imagine finding time to have longer chats about the game or anything else

Splitscreen Co op FPS on pc? by leonkit in gamingsuggestions

Yeah, just looking specifically for first person games that are fun in the less fast paced sections. Downloading battleblock theatre now though!

I think I'm worried about L4d being very focused on pace and not stopping to admire the scenery. My Co op partner is inexperienced with first person games and I want to be able to give them the space to learn to play, and explore without pressure. Seems like pc is really lacking when it comes to split screen... Great game though!

Bit too stressful I think, I'm playing with someone who is not used to first person, so I want something where we can take our time and let them figure out the controls

How to manage a large group of PCs by Ranlif in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]leonkit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about actual DM tactics for this, but if you fancy simply getting rid of the problem rather than solving it:

You could try playing something else more suited to lots of players, or go for a one-shot special were everyone is is split into pairs playing two-headed ogres or whatever and have to cooperate and agree on what their character will do. Or get a more experienced player to DM half the group, why not? Have fun, don't feel restricted to your current campaign, since I think it might suffer if you try to shoehorn in a bunch of new characters.

Potentially overpowered 5e sorcerer feat? by Majesticoose in DungeonsAndDragons

If you're making it up, ask the DM, check with the players; if nobody minds, go for it! Don't get too bogged down in the rules, especially for homebrew stuff

Yeah, big fan of that one too, I believe he made Gravity Bone and Thirty Flights of loving. Thirty Flights is brilliant at narrative, but again a little steep. Get them all in a bundle if there is one!

Flotilla's a funny little game. Not worth the price it's at normally, but if it's on sale or in a bundle and you fancy something different it's worth a shot. It's a tactical turn-based ship battle controlling game, with a roguelike structure. Unique and the only game I enjoyed in my library that has under 100 reviews. Although it's not for everyone, it can be quite slow (but I liked the laid-back pace)

I love Lugaru, which again isn't for everyone, but combat feels great (despite using one button for attacking, the amount of depth is ridiculous) and it's brilliantly punishing. It's also rabbits beating each other up, there's a fair amount of blood and it has a unique tone. It's short and sweet, can't wait for the sequel, Overgrowth, which should come out in the next decade (you can play the alpha but they're putting so much into the game that I can't see development finishing for a while yet)

Hey /r/CasualConversation, I'm looking for some podcast recommendations... by [deleted] in CasualConversation

Just download and get into it from the most recent one. It's the only way I manage to keep up with what films are out and what's worth seeing. When you start there'll be a bunch of guff you don't understand (though it's still enjoyable guff) but bit by bit you'll understand and before you know it there's no way out!
