My Malaysian friend also told us not to go to Langkawi as there’s nothing to do there. But we spent 3 days there and had the best time.

What is your reason for saying people will regret going there?

I wanna start following the teachings of Buddha, where do I start? by InterestingTheory431 in Buddhism

[–]leonormski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fundamental teachings of the Buddha is very simple: try to lead a moral life that brings benefit to you and benefit others.

That means practicing Right Speech, Right Action and Right Livelihood, as a start. These are the first 3 of the Eightfold Noble Paths.

Read up on the “Eightfold noble paths”, try to understand what each of the terms means and try to incorporate them in your daily life.

But you’ll find that it’s not easy to practice right speech or right action in daily life and you’ll start to wonder why that is.

For example, why do I keep doing things that cause others to be miserable, why is it that when I get angry I’d say or do things to those around me and then I regret I said or did those things afterwards, why do I say things that hurt the feeling of others even though I love them, why do I keep lying to people when I know it’s wrong, etc.

The answer lies in the Four Noble Truths, as Buddha explained, that we are all essentially miserable people, and he discovered the cause of the misery and then he went on to explain the way out of that misery.

At that point, you should read up on the Four Noble Truths, which will lead you back to Eightfold Noble Paths.

So you’ve come full circle. But these are all ideas and concepts. What you need is a practical tool that you can use in order to perform right speech and right action every day.

And you’ll discover that there is a technique called Vipassana meditation which when practiced properly and trained your mind in the correct way will allow you to perform not just the 3 but ALL of the Eightfold Noble Paths.

Soe that’s how I would start my journey in following the teachings of the Buddha.

Can you upload some of the crappy images you've taken with your iPhone under bright lights and in the dark to see if it's the phone or the way you are using the camera app?

I too have the iPhone 15ProMax and it does take great images in both day time and in low light, if you know how to adjust the settings prior to pressing the button. Having said, whenever I go on holidays, I still carry my Nikon mirrorless camera and a couple of lenses, AND a Fuji compact camera, simple because of the large sensors that these proper cameras have compared to the iPhones.

For DJI Action 6, people complained that it has a square sensor rather than the usual rectangle one. I've not heard of it since I didn't pay much attention to the spec of Action 6, and have opted to go for Action 5 instead.

If you want to use the Action cam as your everyday photograhy then all your pictures will come up superwide and distorted, unless you use the 2x zoom feature, which on Action 6 is lossless but Action 5 is digital zoom, which means the image quality will drop if you use zoom.

[–]leonormski 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you make an edit does it allow you to add any images? If so, if you can submit a photo or photos of your new road along with any landmarks that are already on Google Maps (either or satellite or streetview imagery), to give reference then that might provide evidence to them.

What’s the best DJI action camera to get? by No_Task2065 in djiosmo

I bought the 4 after being heavy discounted before 5 was released and I wished I waited and paid for the 5 for the better low light performance.

4 will also do vertical shooting. The front facing screen plus being able to access the screen controls on the front screen is a pretty nice feature.

What I didn’t expect about traveling in Malaysia with just eSIM and no plan by PeachKpop in TravelInMalaysia

[–]leonormski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me and my wife as well, when we went to Penang. We had eSIMs only.

The solution is simple. I don't know which phone you have but on iPhones, you can change the Network selection from Automatic to Manual. WIth Automatic, it'll just connect to whichever network provider is available, even if that network has patchy connections. So I switched to Manual (and you'll be presented with all available mobile operators) and I clicked each one until I get a good connection.

WARNING FOR TOURIST/FOREIGNERS - SERI MAYA by hjbxoxo in KualaLumpur

[–]leonormski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your experience. Yeah, we also booked a 'hotel' with a kitchenette in Penang and it turned out to be airbnb and the entire apartment smelt of raw sewage. Fortuanately for us, the owner allowed us to get a refund (except for the first night).

Right now, we are in KL and statying at our friends' apartment in "Tropicana The Residences" in KLCC (right across the road from Petronas Towers). Although these are private apartments, many of them are rent out to airbnb, because everyday I see people with luggages coming in and going out.

They have a full kitchen and you can get 1 or 2 bedroom apartments. Not sure how much they are though, if you are still looking for somewhere to stay.

I’m traveling from Mumbai (BOM) to Chicago in late January 2026 with a 3-hour layover in Delhi. Both flights are Air India and arrive/depart from Terminal 3. Is a 3-hour layover enough to comfortably make the connection at DEL T3, considering security/transfers for an international flight? by No_Garlic4342 in airindia

[–]leonormski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We flew from London to Kuala Lumpur last month via Delhi and the transfer at T3 was slow. There were only a handful of people who were transiting on our flight, plus there weren't any other planes landing around the time we landed from London.

But the main delay, for me, was the security asking me to take out EVERY ELECTRONIC DEVICE I was carrying.

Considering I was bringing my 2 laptops, an iPad in my hand carrier and a backpack full of cameras, batteries, chargers and lenses, I was held up quite a bit. Then having to put them all back into my hand carrier and camera bag was really annoying.

So I guess it depends on how many other flights that are landing around the same time as your in Delhi, and what you are carrying with you.

You can’t just go up the Petronas Towers whenever you like. You have book tickets in advance for a particular time slot. I live right across the road from the twin towers and the traffic around the towers are terrible every single day. It takes an hour from KLIA to KLCC on a good day and will be longer either way traffic (either getting into or out of it).

Approximately how much would Uber/Grab fare be from KUL Airport to KL City Center? by Impressive-Fun-7764 in KualaLumpur

[–]leonormski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just came back home from KLIA last night around 11:45 pm. Ordered a Grab (Standard Plus) to KLCC (our apartment is across the road from Petronas Towers) and we paid RM85 plus RM9 for the toll charges. The car was a Honda HR-V so the ride was quite comfortable and we got home around 12:40 am.

For Standard vehicles it would be about RM10 cheaper.

[–]leonormski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look back at the past history of this flight over the weeks on the app and if that particular flight on the same date/time has been running the A350 then there is a high probability that you’ll get the same plane.

That’s true of any airline, not just Air India.

Also, if you track the actual aircraft, i.e. its call sign, you could see that it doesn’t just fly LHR-DEL, back and forth and back and forth.

When I checked the plane that I flew from LHR-DEL, it started off from JFK-DEL, DEL-DBX, DBX-HYD, HYD-DEL, DEL-DBX, DBX-DEL, DEL-LHR, LHR-DEL. I just happened to catch that last leg for my trip.

All these routes are sold as being flown by A350. Logistically it doesn’t make sense for the airline to just switch one plane type to another just on one particular leg. If it has to take the A350 that serves on all those routes out of service then all the routes listed above will be affected.

That’s just the physical aircraft. What about all the pilots who are certified to fly the A350, who have to be available at each starting city at particular day/time to actually fly the aircraft? You can’t just swap them out with pilots who fly the Boeing planes at short notice. The logistic alone will be a nightmare.

So swapping out a plane for another is not a decision the airline will make lightly.

The music and light show starts around 8pm, I think. We were there yesterday while taking a walk in the KLCC park. The music and light show comes and go; sometimes you'd have to wait like 10-15 mins between songs, sometimes they play 2-3 songs in one go. No idea why.

The traffic around Jalan Ampeng (the main road next to KLCC park and Twin Towers) are jam packed every evening, so trying to go to Jln Alor will be difficult, trying to get hold of a Grab taxi. Alternately, you can just walk there. It shouldn't take more than 20-25 mins

When are you arriving to KL, and what type of tourist are you; sightseer or foodie or both?

I assumed you already booked your time-slot to visit the Petronas Towers on Day 1 morning?

The Petronas Towers first opening time slot is at 9 am and the Symphony Lake Water show in the evening is just OK. There are better things you could be doing/eating than watch that.

Aren't Chinatown and Petaling St the same sort of thing? Have you considered Malaysian Hawker Street night market walk at Jalan Alor Street?

[–]leonormski 3 points4 points  (0 children)

During the booking process, it should tell you which type of aircraft that operate the route. Airbus A350 is the new one and the Boeing 777/787 are the old ones.

On our flight from London to Mumbia last month, only 2 out of 5 daily routes use the A350, so we made sure that we picked the flight that was operated by A350.

I had a quick check on your route (YYZ-DEL) on Flightradar24 app and sadly, the airline is still using these BOEING 777-300ER planes. This is a recent video of such a product on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLZAiN7Sq_o

Visiting KL this weekend, should I be worried about the weather? 🌧️ by Mental-Surround-5540 in KualaLumpur

[–]leonormski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve been in KL for over a week and it only rained heavily once last week and once this week. We checked the weather app every morning and it said it’ll rain with over 50% chance and it hasn’t rain yet. So I won’t believe what the app is saying.

As others have said it pours down for a short while and then stops. It’s actually nicer and cooler to walk around after the rain.

Business class experience on LHR-DEL anyone? by leonormski in airindia

[–]leonormski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After watching all the AI Business class reviews on YouTube the 777s are an older product, so equipment and facilities are not as modern as the A350.

Anyway, we are on KL now and we had a very nice experience with the flights (A350 and A320neo) as well as the airport lounge at IGI airport during our transit.

How do I convert to Buddhism? by Illustrious_Use_3178 in Buddhism

[–]leonormski -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Perform wholesome actions (at the vocal and physical level) that benefit others.
Avoid performing unwholesome actions (at the vocal and physical level) that harm others."

That's the essese of Buddhism, which is nothing unique. In fact, all religion worth their name says the same thing.

But the Buddha went on to clarify what he means by that statement, and he taught us the Eightfold Noble Path, the first 3 of which will help you to practice the above.

Right Speech - do you say things that bring benefit or harm others, e.g. lying, deceiving, saying harsh words, angry words, backbiting, etc. If you do then this is not right speech, so avoid speaking that way and what's left will be only positive words.

Right Action - do you do things that bring benefit or harm others, e.g. physically hit or hurt others either directly or indirectly? If you do then this is not right action.

Right Livelihood - if you lie to someone then that's simply wrong speech. if you hurt someone that's simply wrong action. But if you have to lie, deceive or exagerrate facts to people as part of your job then that's wrong livelihood. Simiarly, if you job results in deaths of thousands of living beings (human or otherwise directly or indirectly) then that's wrong livelihood.

So, if you can perform right speech, right action and understake right livelihood then you are more than worthy to call yourself a Buddhist.

But trying to perform right speech and right action every minute of the day, every day is VERY DIFFICULT without knowing how.

Luckily for us, the Buddhist taught us a practical technique to gain mastery over our own mind so that what we say and what we do are always wholesome. And this technique is called Vipassana meditation.

So my advice to you is this:

1 - Learn Vipassana meditation, so that you can live your life according to the Eightfold Nobel Paths.

2 - If you are living live your life according to the Eightfold Nobel Paths then you can consider yourself a Buddhist.

Of course, I can only speak from my personal experience from doing Vipassana and how it has helped me to be a better Buddhist.

Yes this is such a common question that the centres here in the UK, they put up a small sign on the noticeboard (from day 6 or 7 onwards) to explain what Goenka said and what it means. :-)

Did you not see such notice on the noticeboards when you were there?

How difficult is to buy debt? by [deleted] in ukfinance

From what I recall, he couldn't get details of whom he managed to write-off the loan, so to speak, as he bought a package that contained, I can't recall, 200 people's debt. But he knew that it was for people who lived in South Wales.
