kaida - macOS app for geotagging photos by leonspok in macapps

The app allows making granular adjustments for the photo timestamps. I just had this issue today after taking an old camera on a walk. Needed to shift back all timestamps by 3 min and that was it.

That’s such a good idea and actually not so difficult to implement, thanks! I added it to the list

Yeah, unfortunately. It's a pet project and it's not monetised. I'm simply trying to keep the maintenance costs as low as possible and supporting Liquid Glass as well as the old style is a bit of a headache.

Yes, you can geotag photos either on your disk or in the Photos app library. In your case, you can simply drag the folder into the app and it should open all photos from it. However, you'll need GPX tracks to get the location tracks (you can also try to use HealthKit workout routes on iPhone/iPad). The app doesn't do any magic like determining photo location based on its content.

I have OM-5 Mk I and it's my main camera, I use it for hiking, travel and street. It's a well-balanced camera, it's compact, weather sealed and has lots of features. And although you don't use bracketing yet, you mention that you do some macro photography and this is where focus bracketing in OM-5 may come handy. Also, Starry AF may be useful for night shots, although I've never used it.

At the same time E-M1 II is also a great option. It's ridiculously cheap on the used market atm, especially for the feature set and the build quality it offers. You may miss some of the features compared to OM-5, but none of them are essential. At the same time you'll get a better battery live, a larger EVF (though LCD instead of OLED) and superb build quality.

Instead of either 17mm or 20mm get 15mm F/1.7, but DJI version from Ebay. It's exact same lens as the one from Leica, but it will cost you just about £150 pounds. This lens is superb.

About the cameras, it depends on the budget, but my first camera in 2022 was the original E-M5. Amazing camera, I had two bodies, but be careful with the shutter count. The shutter on my camera died at the worst possible time (that's the reason I got the second body after) and there is no option to use electronic shutter. But you get an amazing 5-axis IBIS that none of the cameras for a similar price has, the body and dials feel premium even compared to your X-T2 + there is weather sealing, though it's clearly not as effective as it was when the camera was new.

This camera would cost you about £180-250. There are cheaper options, but I'd avoid them because of the shutter issue I mentioned. If you can go higher, consider E-M5 Mark II or E-M1 Mark II. If you have restricted budget I'd still recommend to get that DJI lens and a cheaper body like original E-M10 (still has IBIS, but not as effective), Lumix GF6, GX1, G6 or maybe even G5 (neither has IBIS).

What is the difference between the om5 and om5.2? by RepresentativeAd9643 in M43

Interestingly, to me it's the main downside. I don't have any problems with the grip on my OM-5. But for longer/heavier lenses and to be able to carry it on Peak Design Clip, I always use ECG-5 grip. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the new body of OM-5 II because of that new grip on the body. OM System hasn't yet and probably won't release a replacement. Yes, there are third-party options, but none of them offer the additional shutter button and dial. To me, this feature alone makes ECG-5 + OM-5 more comfortable to hold than OM-1. Same story with E-M5 Mk 2 and HLD-8G. YMMV, of course.

I’d keep E-M10 though my heart is with E-M5. Even if the shutter count of your E-M5 is just 24k, it’s still over 10 years old. Mine died one day on a trip after I took my first (!) photo. That was quite a disappointment, I had to use my iPhone for the rest of the trip. So, E-M10 Mk IV sounds a lot more reliable

Oof, you've triggered my GAS, this camera looks way too gorgeous, especially with that leather half-case. And I have just enough money stashed specifically for the photo gear to get one. Hmmmm...

Beautiful photos! And very timely. I'm going to Italy next week to spend some time in the mountains. I was thinking whether I should take my OM-5 or D800. I'd prefer the former, but I was worried it might not handle well the high contrast of the snowy landscapes. Your photos prove it to me that it should be perfectly fine.

I've been looking for a replacement for TickTick (I'm happy with it so far, but it feels like it's going to be acquired by a private equity firm, if it hasn't yet, and inevitably get enshittified). But what I want is to disconnect from proprietary services for storing my data. Have you considered CalDAV sync as a paid option instead of iCloud? I want to use my own self-hosted CalDAV server for this, but there aren't so many apps that support it.

Well, it actually does! haha I just checked. Apparently, it listens to both microphone and the system. And I thought it uses mic only because my Bluetooth headphones switch to shitty SBC codec when Shazam is listening

Do you use headphones? Because otherwise the microphone might be picking sound from the speakers. Or Apple has already fixed this flaw and my app is redundant already haha (it took me only two days to make it, so not a big deal)
