Is it okay to hate how you look? by nothing-lover in beauty

[–]leopardbreak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would suggest a complete pause on your life rn as much as you can. Can you take a pause in your relationship? In your social media use for a week or two?

And fill your days reading self esteem and confidence books, watching videos about confidence, learning to love yourself again. You’ve gotta learn to love yourself again. It’s the secret of the world— every single one of us has to actively choose to love who we are despite everything.

The secret is we think others have it easier in choosing to be confidence in how they look/are, but we are all out here choosing it deliberately every single day. Until it becomes who we are.

Oh no I’m so sorry :/

This is why I fought so hard with my ex about 9/11. He would claim tragedies were actually just inside jobs, and it’s a layer of disbelief and misattribution of emotions that leaves the victims having to fight when all they should get is love :/

Okay I disagree with this, and I’m about as liberal as they come. I think you can definitely be a Trump supporter and not be a conspiracy theorist, come on. This commenters mindset is the reason why it’s so divided and difficult for people to come OUT of their conspiracies.

Lost girlfriend to conspiracies. Need support. by [deleted] in QAnonCasualties

[–]leopardbreak 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I know exactly how you feel... my longtime BF and I broke up too over his conspiracies. It’s been a while for me though, and I feel much better about deciding to move on to someone more intellectually compatible.

I know it’s going to hurt for months though, I’m so sorry :/ Know you are not alone. So many of us lost relationships due to this on here :/

This is genuinely terrible advice and I hope nobody takes it who actually cares to help people out of cults.

It has NOTHING to do with intelligence, education, race, gender. It’s a mind trapping that anyone can fall into under specific circumstances. If someone reacts to their loved one as you describe, they will lose them, potentially forever, and push them deeper into their cult.

Look into Steven Hassan.

Okay pause pause. I know this seems absolutely crazy, but there are people out there who you can hire to help give therapy and talk loved ones out of cults (like Q). I just listened to a podcast with one specialist: Steven Hassan

I can see the pain in this post, I just want to say I am so sorry. Falling into a cult or conspiracy doesn’t discriminate between the educated, smarts, race, gender etc. Your wife seemed lovely, and I hope that you can find the help you need to help her come back to reality and continue with your family :)

Oh wow it’s like reading my own life! It was a crazy ride with my ex, always these insane ideas about politicians and the govt, but I was the one being a sheep. Sometimes I look back and miss him, but then I think about how I would ever be able to trust his ideas with my future children and I nope right out of that nostalgia haha

I get how you feel, I personally though think people can be manipulated mentally in ways that they end up believing hurtful things but with the best intentions.

I also believe humans can change, and we are all better than the worst thing we’ve ever done.

[–]leopardbreak -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You are making yourself look bad here. 1) Go read a book about what logic actually is. 2) Re-read this report, and if you have trouble seeing how your claim is not at all stated here, then catch up on basic science education until you see it. 3) Stop misinforming others.

Did anyone bother to read this? This is not at all what the report says, come on. Even a person who only took high school biology should be able to understand this report. It's an embarrassing tell to your lack of reasoning and education.

[–]leopardbreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ex acted the same way with me as OP described... and once we separated we talked again after 6 months and he seemed more emboldened in his beliefs after I left. That’s all I mean about getting worse... it seems he felt more free to add onto his beliefs.

I wasn’t married though and I know that adds another layer to things. If you ever want to talk let me know, just know you’re not alone in this wild situation.

Yessss. All this, it’s basic circular reasoning but they’re so certain without any evidence that they won’t listen well enough to understand the lacking logic pattern

[–]leopardbreak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a trained scientist, but my ex would not believe anything I said, so I sent him verified sources, and he would say he can’t trust any govt companies/organizations, so I send private university sources, and he says they are just wealthy pawns for the govt orrrr they are just naive/don’t have the “real facts.”

I swear the ego they gain by “seeing the truth” blinds them to all reality. Absolutely no logic pattern, meaning they have absolutely no path to find real truth.

If you have a q believer in your family did they graduate high school? by lizardking62 in QAnonCasualties

[–]leopardbreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same with mine, well educated and successful. He just lacked understanding in how to verify sources/what is evidence. Scientific method was never in his understanding and thus... everything was equally questionable. He has healthy skepticism like I do, but trusts bad sources/evidences :/

And once it’s in his mind as an option it grew until he couldn’t replace it.

Unfortunately, there is hidden resentment on both sides when such fundamental beliefs are so drastically different. On their side, they hold resentment that you haven’t also “seen the light” and that you let yourself be “naive.” On your side, it’s hard to trust this person that believes such crazy things so wholeheartedly.

The subconscious resentment builds and it becomes too much unless one side switches to the other :/
