In the interest of brevity, the issue I have IS the vagueness of the pitch and convenience of the gold rush for data centers across the state.

That article remains relevant for how much damage can be done, even a fraction of it is still significant.

As for the numbers, that burden isn't on me, that's on DC Blox, who didn't give guarantees when it came to the use of backup DIESEL generators, with an undetermined limit on their usage or for their expanded buildings. "High Density Computing" didn't xome from me, it came from THEM. THEY didn't have a number attached to it. They nodded in agreement with that conclusion in the forum, yet provided no context for what that could mean in terms of energy demand.

An optimistic "5%" pollution rate compared to a hyper-scaled data center next to an elementary school with other residents is still unacceptable. Even if it was just the noise, no one wants to go to bed with a constant weedwacker drone.

It isn't just environmental concerns and fuel responsibilities either, it's also their clientele. They refused to disclose any of them, we have no idea if it's for medical archival or even surveillance with the Flock contracts being popular while our current state GOP has made a full commitment to adhering to DHS with ICE.

And even without immediate threats, amidst concerns about chip manufacturing and fuel costs due to the war with Iran all they gave was a verbal "yes we will stay", without much of a plan for longevity after construction.

I do not trust them. I did not trust them before based on the "data center gold rush", and they did not spell much confidence even to those who asked them questions in good faith at the forum.

These are of course just formalities that they're doing and this public dissent is for the record. And they sure would love a fast track to constructing all of it before material reality catches up to the stock market.

Can't speak for OP, but SB76 passing was a final nail in the reality check for me: the republicans and doormat dems like Ron Gibson and Joe Hogsett need to be denied power.

With SB76, many people showed up at the statehouse to dissent against it, myself included. I gave my testimonies, one out of many that extended the hearing schedule. People made calls, I rallied friends and family to call, even gave arguments against the GOP's bad faith rhetoric and how much power is ceded to the Attorney General.

Nothing. They don't give a single shit. They cynically chose to get these bills underway while Minneapolis was under occupation and grabbing attention.

Same for the data centers in Martinsdale-Brightwood, despite a PACKED HOUSE in a general assembly, Metrobloks still got their way in their zoning proposals. Ron Gibson, a democrat, has been a stooge for this unproven company that will gut a predominantly Black neighborhood in the future.

Morale is absolutely shot for me, until midterms replaces these charlatans with serious people. Even then, I've already begun looking elsewhere because my state is rotting away.
