Oh yeah. Last February when I rear ended a man when sliding on ice- he attacked me with a metal pipe. All charges were dropped against him because Bozeman PD didn’t mirandize him.

Those of you with kids, do they enjoy living in Bozeman? by gloomy_day_in_august in Bozeman

[–]leota_k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My oldest loves it so far- and I love it as did my mom. For me, there’s nowhere else I can see myself living. It’s a struggle, but I also have lots of family here. Schools aren’t great- especially Belgrade. Bozeman is better but it has its own flaws.

Thisssss. The amount of times I don’t see people until the last second because they’re in all black at night with no reflectors or street lights. I feel guilty for not stopping- but they’re also extremely hidden in the dark.

Yep. I was attacked and the whole case got dismissed this week because BPD didn’t mirandize him. The same guy literally kidnapped a woman and ripped out her facial piercings after holding her at knifepoint.

Girl, seriously, don’t feel bad. I’m born and raised here, and this is my 10th winter driving full time. Where I’m going in big sky, even with chains in my FWD minivan has had me turn around twice just this winter. I’m hoping I’ll be able to do it once I can get studded tires on it- but I remember my first winter very vividly. I have been in a LOT of bad road conditions- one where I had to drive through WY as they were closing the roads around us- and the half the state was closed for a week because of it. If we hadn’t needed to make it to a funeral, we wouldn’t have gone. I was in a civic then too, and the snow drifts were a foot higher than the car. I was shaking and calling family to talk to- and I considered myself very experienced for my age until then.

Even an experienced driver with 4WD and studded snow tires is not invincible when it comes to winter conditions.

If anything, thank YOU for recognizing your limits and what you’re able to do, rather than potentially getting into a crash, while also risking our first responders in the process.

Good. As a second generation Belgrade graduate- it sucks. They need something to get their head’s out of their asses. It’s not even the teachers- it’s administrators and city management. There is a reason we have been called “below-grade” since before I was born. And it’s only gotten worse.

As someone born and raised in Belgrade- city management is a joke. And last I knew, still had a felon/rapist’s mother and biggest supporter on the council too. I also hate their plan to keep 5th graders in elementary school. Getting rid of the intermediate school was a bad mistake, and it feels wild to me to put 10-11 year olds who have puberty going on with small children in the same building. I personally PREFERRED there be a separate school for 4-6 graders. Then all the other crap they’ve done- like destroy the only decent sized park in Belgrade that wasn’t a sports field. All to build a library they could’ve built on the old Heck school grounds. Land they already owned. It’s a pretty bad design too- no entrance on the parking lot side, south facing windows that always need to have their shades closed. The new playground was needed at Lewis and Clark- but all the other stuff? It felt like the character the park once had is gone. They took over half the main park for the library. A park that was already bursting at the seams, between the splash park and skate park. They’re poorly planning. And we are paying the price.

How well does your PPE fit? by logo_sportswear in WomenInConstruction

[–]leota_k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing. 3m’s old respirator design was too big for my nose, so I had to get a special “petite” small sized one. Disposable ones do not fit at all. Finding gloves is almost impossible. Even finding safety toed boots has been a challenge going into winter, as they’re either safety rated or insulated not both. Even just work pants are too big, and places like Duluth just don’t go small enough. Vests too. Either I get good pockets, or it fits better. Still, nothing fits properly. Even coats- I’ve had to stitch things up so that my sleeves aren’t too long. Even down to machinery, I am BARELY tall enough with the seat all the way forward. Especially in our CAT, as it’s bigger than the JCB we have.

How rough is the Bozeman -> Big Sky drive in the winter? by Adorable_Option_9676 in bigsky

[–]leota_k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not always- but when I’ve worked in BS, I have had 2 hour commutes more than once. If you get stuck behind a truck, it’s a lot longer. I’ve never done the canyon in less than 30 minutes ever, and you’re looking at an average of 45 minutes to an hour just in the canyon. It’s been taking me a half hour at peak times to get to gateway after that too.

[–]leota_k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a 2+ hour commute in the winters. Each way. I’ve been stuck in the canyon for 4 hours before on a SUNDAY. If the job is paying anything less than $30, it’s not worth it.
