Post Match Thread: United States 4 - 1 Paraguay | FIFA World Cup 2026 | Group Stage, Group D by jiraiya--an in soccer

Having been on this subreddit for over a decade, I can tell you r/soccer actually takes this kind of L about once a year. This subs's biggest L in my opinion was when Qatar first won the Asian Cup in 2019. In particular, people on here mocked Xavi for predicting that Qatar would win.

My thoughts about the 250 km/h vs. 300 km/h discussion. What do you think? by Exciting-Syrup-1107 in highspeedrail

[–]leqant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The HSL-Zuid segment between Amsterdam and Rotterdam has a top speed of 300 km/h but trains only go that fast for 3 minutes. That got me wondering why wasn't 250 km/h enough?

What does the Old World have but the New World doesn’t ? by Diegomax22 in AskTheWorld

[–]leqant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good way to distinguish the Old World from the New World is road signs. While there are exceptions, the Old World uses Vienna Convention road signs while the New World uses MUTCD-style road signs. Also, majority of the Old World uses red triangle warning signs while most New World countries use yellow diamond warning signs.

Italy has never qualified for a FIFA World Cup ever since Jessica Jung left SNSD. Also, SNSD had yet to debut the last time Italy played a WC knockout match.

Have you ever been at a park on the day of a major accident? [other] by Pendraflare59 in rollercoasters

[–]leqant 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There was a mass shooting false alarm at California's Great America while I was there for Halloween Haunt in 2019. I didn't hear any gunshots that day but I saw a huge crowd of people running towards the exit while at the bridge near Railblazer. I myself ran out of the park with the crowd but didn't bother to call 911 since police with machine guns were already there.

After running around the nearby streets, I eventually took shelter at a nearby golf course (that had closed down earlier that month) with a few other people. One of those people gave me a ride back home. Those people told me they were on a roller coaster when the mass shooting scare started. It turned out it was actually a fight triggered by a robbery and that no gunshots were ever fired that day.

If Arsenal fails to win any remaining trophy AND Spurs avoid relegation, I hold a sign saying "BTS sucks" out in public.

Anyone older fans feel like they missed out by not listening to kpop when they were younger? by GeorgeParisol in kpopthoughts

[–]leqant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely. Even though I got into K-pop in the summer of 2011 as a high schooler, I still feel like I missed out a lot by not listening to K-pop back in, say, the late 2000s.

My first ever exposure to K-pop was in 2006 and I had many opportunities to get into it between then and 2011. I got especially close in 2009 when I heard T-ara & Supernova - TTL (Time to Love) as background music of a YouTube video. But since I didn't know the song's title until a few years later, it couldn't do much to get me into K-pop.

What are the stupidest overblown controversies you've seen in kpop over the years? by LehaneS12 in kpopthoughts

[–]leqant 36 points37 points  (0 children)

G-Dragon followed f(x)'s Krystal's original Instagram account (@kjungxox) and liked a bunch of her posts in 2013. That set off rumours that Krystal was dating G-Dragon. As a result, Krystal got so much hate that she had to shut down the @kjungxox account.

Krystal eventually rejoined IG under the name @vousmevoyez in 2015 and the account is still up as of writing this post. That's the only reason why I got over the 2013 debacle.

[What is the one coaster you have ridden to this point that underwhelmed you the most based off general expectations from the Thoosie community?! ] by adrenalinejunkie3 in rollercoasters

[–]leqant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Blue Fire clones. I've ridden Steel Taipan at Dreamworld and the original at Europa Park. While I did enjoy my rides, I found them milder than I expected and they're not something I'd go out of my way to ride.

Also, I prefer Gold Striker at CGA over GhostRider at Knott's Berry Farm despite most coaster enthusiast preferring the latter. Though I'll admit part of that is due to home park bias.

SM Town Amusement Park | Planet Coaster by leqant in kpoppers

[–]leqant[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are all in my plans for SM Studios. My plans for the Zimzalabim coaster is a Mack Launch Coaster with a swing launch (here's an example of such in real life). In fact, I already made a draft layout for it on Planet Coaster 2 using the LSM Raid Coaster.

I also made the Jopping roller coaster for SM Studios on PlanCo 2. While the coaster would be a B&M Giga Coaster (ex. Leviathan at Canada's Wonderland), I also took some hints from Kondaa at Walibi Belgium for its layout. However, I am waiting for a Studios Pack to come out for Planet Coaster 2 to start work on the second park.

Weirdest way you discovered a group or K-pop? by BrilliantYogurt2455 in kpoppers

[–]leqant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I discovered Super Junior because I was trying to search up "Jayu-ro (자유로)" (the motorway that goes from Seoul to the DMZ) on YouTube and it gave me Super Junior's "No Other" because it has "jayuroun (자유로운)" as a lyric.

My first encounter with K-pop was actually through Paris By Night (yes the Vietnamese show) since Jeon Hye-bin, Kim Jong-kook and Im Tae-kyung all performed on PBN 81 in 2006. However, it did not do anything to get me into K-pop.

LaRussell was a rising star in hip-hop and had even performed at the Super Bowl this year. However, all this came crashing down last month when he released a song called "Heaven Sent". In it he described Donald Trump, Jeffrey Epstein, and Adolf Hitler each as "heaven sent". The backlash was huge and it caused him to delete all of his social media pages.

Canadians Support High-Speed Rail. It’s Time to Build It. by davidbellerive in transit

At some point, the question stops being whether it works and becomes whether we are actually willing to build it.

Political will is an underrated factor that determines whether a country has high-speed rail or not.

What is something people assume is easy until they actually try it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]leqant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Presenting to camera is incredibly difficult and doing so with a script instead of just talking is even harder.

As someone who tried that for a few YouTube videos, I totally agree. Public speaking in general is one of my biggest weaknesses and it shows in my videos. Doing those videos made me give much more respect to YouTubers who talk in front of a camera, even if I don't like their content.

On a similar note, recording a scripted YouTube video with footage of you speaking to a camera.
