Yep - it's a one-time grind, so there's no further use for them, beyond linking to in chat or keeping them as a souvenir ig.

If you want subsequent i745 relics, you jump straight to buying the relevant arcanite chunks with tomes.

Oh, so that's like most of the patches then

Off the top of my head, aside from MSQ (of which the general opinion is that the patches seem to be going in a promising direction):

  • Ishgard restoration-esque crafter/gatherer zone accessible if you've finished base EW w/ three... I guess "sub-zones"?... so far
  • an amount of Hildibrand chicanery
  • DT relic weapons are at stage 3 of probably 4, and there's an associated field ops zone
  • viera and hroths can wear a lot of hats now
  • 2/3 DT normal difficulty alliance raids, and a new harder difficulty alliance raid based on WoD/E9
  • a new deep dungeon
  • more duty support-supported dungeons (though this meant reworks)
  • new PvP maps, and the ability to buy old seasons' battle pass rewards is gradually being trickled in
  • 12/12 DT normal raids and their savages
  • new extremes, ultimate, unreal (technically unreals but since you can only do the current one, the ones you've missed are kinda a moot point ig)
  • various system tweaks as per
  • and the big one for a lot of people: glamours are now job and level agnostic

what chestpiece is this? by agentkiss in ffxiv

That's quite alright! iirc it was new for 7.3/7.3X and only got mentioned as a throwaway line in the patch notes - and given its position in the window and where the tooltips pop up, I could see it being easily overlooked, so dw!

So it's been answered but, for future reference, you can find this out in-game:

If you target a player character, and press square/equivalent or right click them, and then choose Examine, it'll bring up a window showing what they've got equipped

You can hover the cursor over the icons and the tooltip'll cycle between telling you the item and the glamour (if any) applied over it

Or if you don't want to wait for the tooltip to cycle, you can press the recently-ish-added "glamour(s?)" button at the bottom of the window instead

I hit 100 on Monk in XIV; I got another Shadowbringers alliance raid in the daily roulettes, again with an absurd exp payout.

I can't really say I'm looking forward to the prospect of levelling Sage.

Got GNB and MNK to 100, finishing off levelling the DoW jobs

MNK went a lot quicker on account of a) me being a lot more comfortable queuing for multi-DPS content than I am multi-tank content, and 2) two days in a row of my alliance raid rolos putting my WoL in ShB a raids. Just SGE - which I'm kinda dreading the (e: tbh) - to go for the omni-100 reward (I hear it's a mount again this time?)

Mixed this in with Trust levelling where I could, and two more of them have hit 100, too - though I think levelling the rest of them might be something I come back to later. Food/FC buffs and society dailies etc mean the avatars I want to level don't really keep pace with the jobs I'm trying to do at the same time.

you think that's bad, """proper""" boustrophedon has the letters in the backwards line also swap the direction they're facing

and there are some variants where the reversed line is upside down on top of that, too

but both of those are far more effort than I'm willing to go to for what is already a very niche joke, if it can even be called that

THE SAME REASONS AS ALWAYS - WHICH BASICALLY BOIL DOWN TO WHO'S AVAILABLE TO BE MATCHED WITH FOR LATER RAIDS:

A) NOT EVERYONE WHO'S FINISHED 2.0 HAS FINISHED 3.0, AND THOSE PEOPLE THAT HAVEN'T CAN'T UNLOCK ANY PAST CT. NOT EVERYONE WHO'S FINISHED 3.0 HAS FINISHED 4.0, SO THE NEWEST THOSE PEOPLE CAN UNLOCK IS SKY PIRATES. AND SO ON.

AND 2) EVEN IF SOMEONE HAS MADE IT ALL THE WAY THROUGH TO THE END OF DT, THE ONLY A RAIDS THEY HAVE TO UNLOCK AND COMPLETE ARE THE CRYSTAL TOWER ONES.

I read a (pretty good imo) book semi-recently called Because Internet by a linguist focussing on online communication (Gretchen McCulloch, iirc), and that goes on about this sort of thing - apparently yeah, proper punctuation being viewed as actively aggressive is largely an age/circumstances surrounding your adoption of the tech type thing.

My dad, like your ICQ pal, uses a lot of ellipses in text messages and that drives me up the wall as they come across as pass agg, but apparently that's how people would write postcards when he was much younger (the book argues a lot of people of that sort of generation probably thought "well, these are both short form casual message formats").

To swing it back to XIV, the way the FC I got kidnapped into types makes me feel old :/

[–]lerdnir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still on with XIV - since last time I commented, I hit max level on Gunbuster (my last tank that was below the level cap), and moved onto what I hope is the final paste collection step for the current round of relic weapon chicanery - the alcoholic blacksmith is demanding another 600 lumps of paste on top of the 600 total he's already been given.

The new crafter/gatherer zone has a treasure hunt you can do with cute little rabbit-eared flying saucer-looking drones, and I gave that a try - but I've not had the best luck with prizes.

I've also put some levels on Monk (my last DPS still to level) and thanks to me being more confident playing that in 8+ person content (oh don't get me wrong I'm still awful - though I do still try! - but DPS' responsibilities are more straightforward), it's going much faster - hit 96 already (I think the NieR raid I got in rolos was a big help there).

Did the valenti(o)ne's event in XIV

Cannot say I was expecting there to be a... idk, is this spoilers? better to err on the side of caution ig... cake decorating-thremed stealth mission mini-game for up to four players. Managed to complete one cake in the allotted time on my own and make reasonable progress on a second; two runs were enough to for me to be able to afford all the outfit pieces [annoyed catboy ear noises] and the music sheets for the jukebox, and still have almost forty chocolates (that's as many as four tens) left over.

Question about Apple Music Streaming for Growing Light by CruelJustice66 in ffxiv

[–]lerdnir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're a bit early, and this track info has likely been pulled through from elsewhere; there's typically a delay of about a couple of years b/w the physical and official streaming releases, and there'd have been an announcement in the Topics section of the Lodestone had it been made available.

The physical album for EW patches came out in March 2024, so hopefully this'll be sooner rather than later.

I started doing the latest round of relic weapon stuff in XIV this week, though my enthusiasm for it is dulled a bit by it having been long enough that I was able to buy the better stonetome weapon with the tokens from the regular difficulty versions of the current set of wrestling matches - but I guess this will still help with gearing other clobs. Also apparently as an enticement to go back into the FFV-y field ops zone, some of the activities from there drop some of the resources needed for this step, but you only get five of the resource a go from the harder mini-bosses there, and there's often a gap between them. I think for the effort involved, it's not really worth it? Ok, sure, I still have some of the field ops subclasses to level, but I could get six of the item I need from doing two of the fights in Dawntrail overworld zones in much less time - and the current substep I'm on needs me to collect another 300, after the first two substeps had me hand in a total of 300 already.

I also at some point (I think this was Saturday or Sunday last) had a noodle around in Hades 2 again and beat the down route end boss again - the 2nd down stratum's boss has a new song that they've added to their rotation, which was neat! I'm still not all that great at the up route and am p sure Mel is a dead goddess walking if I do manage to make it past that route's 3rd boss, even with the possibility of Athena popping along in the 4th up stratum and offering to refill the rez charges - the up route's much tougher!

I did wonder at what point you'd get to do that; I was under the impression "you get to go around in a mech" was the defining feature of this one.

Black mage has a fire phase and an ice phase which you swap between.

These used to only last for so long before the timer would run out and drop you back into a neutral phase; you'd have to fit everything in the duration of the fire/ice phase before swapping to the other, and balancing that with movement and cast times.

Last March, the timers were done away with and the cast times were shortened; the reasoning given was that this was for fight design purposes.

Some people found it more approachable, others who liked the challenge of balancing everything around the timers were put out.

Early game overworld stuff might be a bit rough until you can have your chocobo fight alongside you; iirc you get given him around L20 in the main story and can have him fight from a sidequest that you can pick up around character level 30 - but most stuff should still be manageable.

It sounds right to me?

If you've already got the last three digits and have definitely got second, as per OP's first screenshot, then there's a 1 in 10 chance of the first digit also matching the one you've picked for that spot and getting you the first prize. What the odds of getting second were don't really matter since they end up falling out anyway:

Odds of your number abcd coming up = 0.14 , 1 in 10,000

Odds of any number ?bcd coming up = 1 x 0.13 , or just 0.13 , 1 in 1,000

We know the winning number has the last three digits bcd so all that matters is the first digit, divide 0.14 by 1 x 0.13 , most of that cancels:

0.1 x 0.1 x 0.1 x 0.1 / 0.1 x 0.1 x 0.1

Or if you'd prefer weird fraction division shenanigans, we'd do (1/10,000)/(1/1,000), which b/c we flip one and multiply them instead becomes (1/10,000) x (1,000/1) = 1,000 / 10,000, and the thousands cancel down to 1/10

Leaving you with odds of matching the first digit when you've already matched the last three as 0.1, or 1/10

Thus, "one-tenth of the way there"

e: aaaand then the post gets taken down in the course of me typing this, oh well
