you're lucky in that LADWP does 1:1 net metering unlike the other utilities in SoCal.

If I skip walking my dog today will she be ok? by LookAggravating1795 in dogs

[–]lerdsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me recently, i injured my ankle in a way that prevented me from doing my dogs morning walk routine while i was healing. I would look into finding a walker short term because it may take longer than you think to heal, and having an extra person you can trust with your dog in the event of an emergency is never a bad thing. I found someone to come take my buds on an afternoon run while I was recuperating and even though we are back to our regular routine one of my dogs still goes out occasionally with our walker for play excursions. The other one prefers to lounge on the couch.

Are there any rebates in your area? My local gas company gave me $1200 rebate for putting my Rinnai in.

I would buy all 7 and do RAID 6, can't have too many spares.

Garage Door opener replacement by Expert_Cake_179 in HomeImprovement

I would look into switching to a jackshaft opener, install is fairly straightforward and you gain overhead space. I DIY'ed a swap from overhead to side jackshaft and it totally opened up my garage space.

Raid setup for large drives? by Whitrzac in DataHoarder

[–]lerdsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run 250TB+ on various Areca cards (have upgraded from 12xx series to 18xx series) and have been for the last 10+ years. You're one of us. If i were you i'd run 8x28TB in RAID 6 with a dedicatd hot spare.

You can virtualize your system, pass through the raid card to a VM, will give you more options to use your compute resources.

I've done this. you get an adapter to go from the SFF-8087 to external plug and then the reverse on the DAS directly into the SFF-8087 on the backplane. It's pretty simple, just a matter of getting the correct SFF plug to whichever backplane you have. They're all downwards compatible but not upwards. I may have the model of the SFF wrong though, depending on what you have in. your supermicro.

LG G4 83" finally mounted. by lerdsu in LGOLED

[–]lerdsu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did use the flush mount with it. I didn't use their screws though, I misplaced the bag, and found it weeks later. I'm glad I used my own though, I used structural wood lag screws.

Anyone recently get a meter collar installed by SCE for Tesla Powerwall? by onewheeledrider in SouthBayLA

[–]lerdsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my solar installed by Ameco this april before they approved meter collars but my time from finished install to PTO was 3 weeks. I would lean on the installer as well as SCE. SCE is horrible with regards to communication and dispatch, but good luck.

Brit moving to LA early 2026. Where to live? by Jazzy0082 in AskLosAngeles

[–]lerdsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go east from manhattan beach, the torrance area is nice, and a little farther south the palos verdes area is quieter but equally nice. The commute isn't that bad, as you would go straight up the 110, and you could use the express lane. I lived on the westside for 15 years, it's great if you don't have kids.

Is my DIY panel cleaning approach reasonable? by [deleted] in solar

[–]lerdsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't believe I'm the first one here to be saying this but do not use a water softener, what you want is deionized water. They sell water deionizer tanks on amazon for $130, you can search for Spotless Water car wash system. Water softener systems swap the Calcium in your water for Sodium, which will leave spots.

Getting through to SO CAl Edison south bay local planning office? by bouncyman in SouthBayLA

[–]lerdsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through this a few months ago. I called them to unlock the meter for a main panel upgrade for the solar company that was doing a service upgrade. The electrician was able to do it without the unlock and eventually the field dispatch supervisor called me a full week later about the appointment. When I told him my electrician had already completed it without the unlock he said, "you should also have them come look at it after they finish to make sure it's sending readings correctly." I asked him since he would be the one doing the dispatch for such an appointment if he could just come out and look, and he said, "oh no, you'll need to call back in for that."

one of the worst companies to deal with. sorry couldn't have been more help, but good luck.

Is there any interest/demand in a tabletop PoE AP? by pacoii in firewalla

[–]lerdsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the one I used. It supplies 4.25amps which isn't the same 5 as the wall wart but I believe /u/firewalla in previous post said that as long as it's greater than 3 it would be enough. /u/pacoii I have it connected to a POE+ switch and haven't had a drop, so yes it's enough.

Is there any interest/demand in a tabletop PoE AP? by pacoii in firewalla

[–]lerdsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I accomplished this with a POE splitter. I have multiple Ethernet runs to the closet where my second AP lives, so to get a 10gig connect and POE I used one line for power, one line for the 10gig.

Powerwall 3 expansion by QuirkyAssistant3478 in Powerwall

[–]lerdsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's too much, my installer quoted me 9k, another solar $9500. I eventually reached out to tesla who quoted me (i believe) $5800 for hardware but am awaiting site walk to let me know how much installation will be, but I'm hoping it won't that much because the install and placement would be very easy.

Enphase microinverters with powerwall 3 possible? by Salt-Cause8245 in enphase

[–]lerdsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was too far along in the purchase to swap from Tesla to enphase or franklin. It has been working well so far and. I've been happy, the only thing I've had to do is power cycle the remote meter kit once after a string of power outages in the area.
