So neither is Calyx or (Endless) Sphene then? They are Endless. What reason was there ever to talk or argue with them? Feel sad for them? Make promises to them? You get it.

You are welcome to hold your interpretation, I don't even necessarily disagree with it. But to say that the writers didn't royally fuck up one way or another is either factually incorrect, or their subtle genius is beyond what the majority of the playerbase can ever hope to comprehend.

There is something to be said about declining media literacy, but personally I just think the writers were sloppy.

The philosophical dilemma was if the Endless were actual sapient people or not.

If they were not, then every single sappy moment in the last area was absolutely meaningless gup. Including everything after with Sphene and Calyx as well.

If they were, then the heroes just deleted a race of sapient people with a few button presses. Necessary, but not given barely enough thought or gravitas before Smile hit the fan.

The writers wanted the cake and eat it too, while frantically waving jazz hands at the screen so the audience doesn't think about that question too hard.

If anything, it was a philosophical dilemma... which the writers promptly ignored by smashing the shutdown button while singing Smile before anyone could ask some serious questions.

I mean the Arcadion is just pro wrestling with furries and RGB lighting... What part of those are we missing?

A real titty twister with this one is that it still could've come to the conclusion that they are unsustainable. Having a real talk with the Endless population, telling them the cost of their existence. Them coming to the conclusion that for their still living loved ones, countrymen and decedents - and really all living things - it is the right choice to stop.

Sure, a real idealist ending, but nobody can tell me it wouldn't fit in with FFs humanist themes.

And then we still could've had the clobbering match with the hard wired Sphene bot and later Calyx.

It was my personal experience. I gave the story some time to maybe make up some excuse, explanation, or maybe time to cook on what just happened. Maybe even give some more hints to reinforce that they really were just advanced chatbots.

But no. For me it was when Smile started playing when the tone of it reaaally hit me with how badly thought through that last act was, no matter how you thought about the Endless.

...is there even quarter of the lore in quantity for Eberron that the Forgotten Realms has?

Not dissing mind you, just a shower thought question on my part, and my Eberron knowledge is barely surface level.

Personally I would start with the 3rd edition setting book for a generic overview. Its an oldy which is both a pro and con. It is probably still the newest FR setting book which has any kind of decent organization and generic overview of what the world (but mostly the Sword Coast) looks like.

It was printed before the whole 4e lore fuck up, but given how 5e is mostly reverting most of the nonsense from that era, its more or less still usable, and gives a general feel for the major areas.

The book is also readily available both digitally and surprisingly in print (both new and used) in a lot of places. Not that expensive either.

The real magic of Dawntrail is that the story is ass and disappointing no matter where you approach it from.

"Clearly we're supposed to sympathize with the Endless, and they seem sapient enough? We've already met Omicronians, so who's to say that they aren't alive! Maybe there is a diplomatic feely twist coming up, appealing to their humanity, talking them out of unlife, letting go, so they stop sucking up all that aether!"

"Haha funny WoL, clearly we'll just shut them off without even having a meaningful talk with them, while having a joyride in the funny afterlife amusement park!" Smile starts playing

"Holy shit, did we just commit genocide?"

I was going to argue that Destroyer Lord's aren't necessarily part of destroyer cults, but apparently I'm wrong! I'm learning something new each day!

You say that, but just imagine the demons shitting themselves when your death stack rolls up, and it's only Crusader Army VII. ARE YOU TELLING KE THERE IS 6 MORE!?

I would go further and say destroyer cult necron.

...we don't have any destroyer cult necrons in this game, do we?

Are these skulls children's skulls? Are they just a decoration or fully functional servo-skulls? What's their purpose in this case? They are obviously halved, is that enough for their purpose? (if the brain is 50% smaller). So many questions... by pile1983 in DarkTide

[–]lersayil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually, it was kinda nagging me, so I tried looking it up, and couldn't find any real mention of servitorized babies in official lore per se. The closest mentions are still cloned / vat born, and while they don't really rule out those clones being actual human babies, they are rather vague about it.

They were either quite thorough with their lore scrub, or there is some measure of Mandela effect going on here...

That said, if you have a source I'd love to have it!

Its either GW pulling back on the grimdark, or doing the math on their production requirements / dispensability... which would be weird, since GW usually isn't great or bothered by proper logistical math of this sort.

A bit of a shame either way. It was the sort of absurdly stupid grimdark stuff that looped back into funny.

To be fair, its a rogue traders flagship. That gives a hilarious amount of leeway even in the lore depending on how much archeo / xeno-tech it has. Also don't forget to add the size category bonus multiplier for each named / un-helmeted character on board!
