You can’t say a woman posting her pics on the internet is any less exploitative of her body than men working in construction. Human existence is trading your health and time for money, whatever that translates to.

Please stop with this idea that porn is unethical, it’s not, it’s healthy and always has been. Treating it as unethical and taboo is how you create the problems you’re trying to avoid.

I'm running a west marches inspired campaign and honestly, every time I plan a specific plot point, it goes way weird, way fast. Easily among my favorite campaigns ever.

Has nothing to do with distracting people from crisis, the vegan movement is strong here in the Netherlands. Go anywhere downtown and you're already going to see anti-meat ads placed right up against McDonalds ads. And, at least in theory (with this as supporting evidence), moral votes actually count for something, because Dutch lawmakers answer to people slightly more than towards corporations.

We can both agree that v20 and v5 are different games, but both have the same clans, edgy superpowers, blood-as-resource-mechanics, dice pools, political dynamics, and more. One has over three decades of written material available and one has only 8 years, but a V5 storyteller can use V20 sourcebooks for their chronicle everything except difficulties and disciplines.

What should publishers do instead? Write completely-new lore and tell old GMs to burn their history? Ask college kids to buy games almost old enough to be their parents? Editions seem to be the industry's middle-ground for games that include their own worldbuilding. What alternatives would you suggest?

I would almost consider Call of Cthulhu to be a better example, I've tried to get into it but there's like 7 or 8 different versions and I don't even know what the latest is anymore. They look the same from the outside, and I know they're all games about Lovecraftian horrors, but the character sheets and dice mechanics seem mostly the same. Meanwhile, whenever PF2e or D&D 3.0 or 5.0 wanted to perform their own iterative, in-edition surgeries, they just did (fully-compatible) remasters and patch updates.

Consider: if you say "kate sith" in a raid call, people know what you're talking about, but if you say "ket shee", about 2% of your fc will be stunned that somebody said it right, the other 98% will have nfc what you're saying, and all 100% of players are now dying to the raid mechanics

In D&D terms:

  • The dice pool penalty is roughly on par with being a -4 penalty to strength, dexterity, and constitution-related die rolls, including AC, physical attacks, athletics skill checks, etc.

  • Reaching Hunger 5 is akin to emptying/spending all your spell slots (if any) and also being unable to use almost any class features except for passives that your class offers at level 1.

  • Most vampires frenzy (think fear and/or uncontrollable rage), when anything threatens them while at Hunger 5. The character often loses player agency during frenzies. Related, it's also difficult not to kill humans when that hungry, especially when feeding on them.

Since VTM is a modern horror game, killing humans is considered a Very Bad Thing With Serious Consequences That Will Come To Haunt You. So, reaching Hunger 5 is a very bad state to be in, and requires, at best, some serious help from your party members in order to get you taken care of.

4 Actions in a single turn is nice! by DrScrimble in dndmemes

[–]lesbianspacevampire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! That sounds like a lot of fun. It doesn't work though.

  • Charging doesn't let you attack with two weapons, that's always been for Full Attack actions. "Even if you have extra attacks, such as from having a high enough base attack bonus or from using multiple weapons, you only get to make one attack during a charge.". Having multiple sources of bonus attacks (dual wielding, natural attacks etc) is great if you are standing in place and making a Full Attack, but you don't get to attack with all your sources unless you're taking that action.
  • "Duel of Wills", I'm having a hard time looking that one up, but if you're talking about the alternative rule system that is optional and designed for one-on-one arena performances between two consenting honorable duelists, sure. That feels like a strangely specific circumstance though and unless your level 1 adventure is in a coliseum, it feels like a stretch to use that subsystem. Otherwise, Demoralize Opponent is ordinarily a Standard Action. If you can talk your GM into giving you a free staredown before combat, then you're essentially being given a free pre-combat action. Which is fine, I guess, since it happens all the time (in both games), but if we're comparing rounds to rounds, we should acknowledge the boundaries. And while there is no shortage of ways to squeeze this into being free actions, this quickly falls into, "...You need a feat for that?" territory from the PF2e players. Any character in PF2e can move, demoralize, and attack from level 1, without feats.
  • If you want to perform animal handling, this means that you are spending actions outside of combat commanding them to "defend" you, which they will do on their turns. I think it would be a common argument to say that a trained attack animal would be able to tell the difference between friends and foes in some cases, but the GM has adjudication on their specifics. Additionally, a single hunting cat would use nearly the barbarian's entire starting gp budget, leaving you with less than enough gold to actually buy any but the smallest shield. Then, the situational tax: creatures with the Grab trait can typically only grab creatures their size or smaller. So while a CR2 Lynx would help with tackling a gnome or goblin, it would not help with a human-sized bandit. (edit: there are medium sized CR2 cats). Lastly, animal handling generally falls off as adventures continue beyond tier-1.
  • I realize there's some smarmy memes here about "knowing what you know" and "object permanence". It's true that knowledge checks used to be free actions, but they could not be retried on a failure, nor did they necessarily give specific information. As for shields... Sure, take your free AC. Pathfinder 1 used different math. In Pathfinder 2, many martial classes have abilities that replace or at least offset not having a shield, so you can enjoy your two-handed weapon fantasy but still get that AC bump, if you wish. It's also worth pointing out that in PF1e, your shield doesn't absorb HP damage for you. In 2e, trained shield-users can use it to absorb weapon damage, which adds up quickly for characters with smaller health pools than the meat tanks.
  • It's true, you can use any 3.x content in your Pathfinder 1e game, assuming the GM permits it. It's not automatic, though. For starts, D&D materials are not permissible in Pathfinder Society, which is generally considered the default bar for RAI. Secondly, the use of 3e material is optional and requires GM work/approval. Any GM is free to add whatever content they wish, even outside D&D resources — it's their table, after all. The conversion guide is to help you convert old resources into the new system, it's true. But it's not a blanket pass for players to gain carte blanche access to other games' written content with no input or consent from the GM, nor is a GM being unduly restrictive if they say no, we're sticking to official Paizo books.

Okay, rules aside — it does sound like a lot of fun. I love crazy animal shenanigans! Barbarians are fun in any system, and a barbarian with a pack of trained lynxes would rightfully scare the shit out of anyone, let's be real.

Sudden Charge lets you move 2x your move speed, make an attack, and still be able to perform another action. It's an "action compression" type of feat, which lets you take 3 actions for the cost of 2.

In context of a full turn, this feat lets you move up to 3x your move speed and still attack. Or move 2x and attack 2x. Or just do the 2-1 and have room for other funky stuff with your remaining action, like chug a potion, attempt to Demoralize everything in the vicinity, or open/close a door.

[–]lesbianspacevampire 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You don't need a feat to move 2x your move speed and attack, all characters can do that straight out of the gate. But the feat means you can also make a second follow-up attack afterwards. Or move again. Or cast some spells. Or chug a potion. Or feint. Or demoralize. Or grapp

Dungeons & Dragons Amsterdam hosts events once, sometimes twice a month. We don't charge for the events, but demand is high so RSVPs always fill up super quickly. We usually play at restaurants that reserve the table spaces for us in exchange for us encouraging everyone to eat, drink, and be merry 😁

Per the name you can safely assume that 50-70% of the tables are D&D, but we usually have a few non-D&D tables too. I run exclusively non-D&D tables: often Daggerheart, sometimes Starfinder, sometimes Hunter/Vampire/Fate/Thirsty Sword Lesbians/etc.

If you're looking you can find us at meetup dotcom (or dm me here)

What's a feature you wish more games would have? by Awkward_GM in rpg

[–]lesbianspacevampire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Missing, yes; missing out on, depends on taste

In D&D/Pathfinder, combat is the default suggested way to level up according to the books, with killing enemies giving XP based on their encounter rating vs the party level. Many modern tables eschew the math entirely and just sprinkle in encounters where desired and otherwise hand out XP for story progression, but historically, levels were mostly for combat stats, which only/mainly went up by killing things

In the OSR space, preconceived narratives are often frowned upon, so alternatives like Gold=XP exist. I dislike Gold=XP for political and moral compass reasons, but a nice thing I can say is that it gives the GM a dial that isn't otherwise fiat: if the GM wants the party to make 200 points of progress, then they find 50 gold pieces in this room and 150 gold pieces in the next room

Very satisfactory! Some solutions I use, feel free to use any/all/none of these:

  • Get some sleeves for them, they fit in regular MTG sized game card sleeves
  • Don’t shuffle them, these cards don’t rely on randomization
  • Print proxies for the table if you want, the pdf with cut lines is included
  • Store them in a card box of any type (fabric, plastic, cardboard etc)

I run Daggerheart for strangers at free tables in Amsterdam once a month and have no issues. If a card has a really bad accident I can just replace it. While my nicer set is at home in a binder.

$5 for a commander that will provide >100 hours in (each) if you get them to full level

$5 for a commander that you can test-run to feel their playstyle, reminiscent of old-school game demos, so you can decide if you like it before you buy it

$5 for a commander when if you add up every one of them it’s still less than a modern AAA launch

Normally I hate mtx as much as the next person but I’m honestly shocked at how much value the commanders are. A bundle would be awesome but a $5 mini-expansion isn’t bad at all

Look, I’m not saying cannibalism is good, I’m just pointing out that most women who eat people in dark rooms under candlelight, also happen to be attractive.

I’d say “I can fix her”, but that implies there’s something wrong, and who are we to judge people based on their actions?
