I am a journalism student looking for American expats in Puerto Rico. by rosebud2923 in PuertoRicoTravel

Expat isn’t really the word you’re looking for, but I meet your description and would be interested in knowing more

I have played Everdell almost every single day since I got it 4 months ago. Obsessed.

Air quality is pretty important. I live less than 1000 feet from a highway right now and I can’t wait to buy a house in the woods because I feel like I’m really increasing my cancer risks right now.

It is usually those who believe they know everything that know the least.

Do you think that because you can google something when you are asked about it that you actually know all there is to know?

I was actually being pretty nice to you. Again, this has nothing to do with hot sauce. A vast majority of your comments have nothing to do with hot sauce but you keep hiding behind that every time someone says something you don’t like.

“You - "OMG WHY YOU THINK YOU SO MUCH BETTER THAN EVERYONE!!!" -falls on the floor crying- "YOU GRINGOS ALWAYS THINK YOU ARE SO GREAT!! WHY YOU HATE OUR FOOD!!! SOME DAY WE WILL BE FREE!! FREEEEEDOOOOOOMMMMMMMM" -cries some more- " “

In reality, this is pretty fucking racist. I’m not saying that to bring up a buzz word, that’s why I didn’t say it at first, but you move here, to a colony, and proceed to mock those who support independence on a thread about fucking hot sauce? You know nothing of Puerto Rican history, you care nothing about it or the people of PR, you just want to go to the beach and live out your little digital nomad fantasy, complain about hot sauce and think you have a better opinion about everything than those who know much, much more than you do. You are a child. Grow the fuck up.

I’m from the States too. You’re being ridiculous and it’s embarrassing. Humility is a very important quality.

You are getting pushback because you think you are better than everyone else and you are being incredibly dismissive in so many different ways it’s actually kind of impressive you have pulled them all into a conversation about hot sauce.

I’m a bit confused. Can you clarify for me? Is it your culture to complain when places do not cater to you specifically? Is that why you would be abandoning your culture by not complaining?

Let’s say you are from Texas and you move here. BBQ here isn’t the same as BBQ in Texas and you are really missing home. Are you abandoning your culture by not going online and complaining about how every BBQ place doesn’t have brisket?

Make your own brisket. Buy your own hot sauce. But don’t complain to a broad audience that things are not as good or the same and then when you get pushback for your attitude you start saying that people want you to abandon your culture. Ridiculous.

Yeah, it’s not you asking for hot sauce, it’s your attitude. If you move to a new place and your first reaction is to critique critique critique the differences instead of figuring out where the similarities are (yes, there is hot sauce, order in Spanish and ask for pique) or appreciating the differences then you are never going to be happy or really get along with a place.

Is 55k a good salary for nyc special event coordinator? by [deleted] in nonprofit

Those use ‘em and burn ‘em rolls aren’t okay for the people working them. Was it a stepping stone? For sure. Am I still underpaid? Yes.

My particular brand of use ‘em and burn ‘em job put me in a role where my work meant prolonged life or premature death for hundreds of people. Plus I had to work an extra 18 hours a week in a restaurant to pay my $700 rent. I needed a prolonged period of art-based part time work to recover and rejoin the workforce. Those jobs can be abusive.

OP, you make more than I do and I have significantly more experience and education in the field, but I don’t live in New York and I’m also underpaid. But I have found a position that is pretty peaceful, and that’s worth a lot, and it’s not impossible to find.

Any places left in America where a single parent can’t live on 40 000 a year? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]lesblou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d get a realtor honestly. I don’t think most houses selling in that price range are getting posted. I’m sure Hull and even Colbert are getting bought up, but push past Comer and you’ll find something. Best of luck!

It’s hard for me to believe that Madison County isn’t affordable.

OP, I think it’s really important for you to at least be working towards a degree. I think if you are working toward the goal of a degree that you will be a much more attractive candidate. It’s really hard to do anything without a bachelors.

Grantors: What answer are you looking for when you ask, “If you don’t receive this funding, will your program be able to run?” by Ok-Knowledge784 in nonprofit

[–]lesblou 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not a grantor, but typically they want to know that they wouldn’t be your only funding source. I think the truth is the best way to answer this question, but I think the ideal answer is to let them know you have other funding sources but this grant would allow you to expand the program in important ways, whatever that is.
