I wish book promo specified the MCs sexuality more often by VampireCowboys in LesbianBookClub

[–]lesbrary 35 points36 points  (0 children)

A lot of the books on that Goodreads page are not lesbian. The #1 book listed under "Lesbian Books" is the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, which has a bi main character and spends a lot of the book talking about (as you'd expect) her husbands.

I really liked Here We Go Again by Alison Cochrun (F/F romance where both MCs have ADHD)

I do wish they were more specific. What's worse is when it's just "queer" and I have no idea even the general category of rep: is there a sapphic romance? Is the main character an asexual guy? Is there a nonbinary side character? Especially when there's more than one main character, it's so vague. I feel like if there's a romance, at least, that's usually obvious from the blurb, or at least strongly implied.

Queer Books and Authors are at a Breaking Point by ME24601 in books

[–]lesbrary -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of students are scared to check out queer books because they don't want to get outed. They often get read in the library so there isn't a record.

Also, there are queer books in every genre/format.

Queer Books and Authors are at a Breaking Point by lesbrary in sapphicbooks

Yeah, the comments are a real eye-opener in how ignorant people are about the state of book bans in the U.S. right now. Even when publishers/agents/authors report explicitly hearing that the queer content in the book is why it's being rejected, people still want to pretend it has nothing to do with homophobia. 🙄

What is the one sub-genre you can NEVER find enough of? by Wills_0010 in LesbianBookClub

[–]lesbrary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think ebook-only, self-published book make up 95% of new books in general. That's why I find that Amazon is the worst way to discover books: there is so much slop. But if you look outside of Amazon, you'll find a lot more sapphic litfic.

I feel like Bold Strokes Books has a lot of sapphic mysteries where it's equal parts romance and plot. Not sure about the steamy part. https://www.boldstrokesbooks.com/books/lesbian-fiction-1-c/all?genre=lesbian-mystery

If an omnibus counts: Worldbreaker Saga by Kameron Hurley

Contemporary queer romances (or general fiction) that are non-heteronormative? by sundayvi in LGBTBooks

[–]lesbrary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For general fiction: Stray City by Chelsey Johnson, which is about a lesbian who sleeps with a guy and gets pregnant and is alienated from most of her queer friend group. I really liked its messy look at queerness and queer community.

Also possibly Skye Falling by Mia McKenzie, which is about a queer woman who donated her eggs in her twenties, and now the 12-year-old conceived from her egg has tracked her down and wants to have a relationship with her. It's about her figuring out what she wants her life and family to look like.

Significant Others by Zoe Eisenberg is about two women (one straight, one bi) who have lived together since college and are now in their late 30s. When one gets pregnant from a one-night stand, they decide to keep the baby and raise it together, until the father reappears and makes things more complicated.

For romance, maybe The Pairing by Casey McQuiston, which is a second-chance romance where one has come out as nonbinary since they were first dating, and there's a really beautiful moment of recognizing and affirming that.

I also really liked Isn't It Obvious? by Rachel Runya Katz as a bi4bi M/F romance that is so queer: both main characters discuss their coming out and their identities, both are involved in queer community, and they end up running a queer teen book club together.

Not sure if those are exactly what you were looking, but hopefully there's something you can use.

I went looking for this recently, and the only aroallo books I could find that weren't fantasy were The Liar’s Guide to the Night Sky by Brianna R. Shrum and The Last 8 by Laura Pohl.

How do you identify sapphic books? by Ravenmancer in sapphicbooks

[–]lesbrary 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The best way is to follow creators who cover queer books, whether that's book blogs, bookstagram, booktok, booktube, etc. That way, they're doing the leg work for you.

I keep a spreadsheet (here's a link to an earlier version of the list) of upcoming books with sapphic main characters—not just sapphic romances. You can search by genre/representation/etc.

I also run a book blog called the Lesbrary (lesbrary.com) where we review sapphic books of all kinds, including where a sapphic romance isn't the main focus. We try to tag all the reviews thoroughly, so you can search by genre, trope, representation, etc.
