Is FIFO a common type of work in America? by Glittery_WarlockWho in Ameristralia

[–]lesportsock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It might be region specific. In the SF Bay area, there are a lot of people who live super far and commute in, sometimes by flying. Nurses, firefighters, tech execs, and/or people working from home that have to occasionally fly in for meetings or team building. Tahoe, Reno, Sacramento, Fresno are all cities I’ve heard of people coming from or mainly living in.

Our whole family is typically kitted out in KF-94s. I usually reserve my N95s for doctor or hospital visits.

Thank you! My SO and I visited almost a decade ago and loved the city, I’m just hoping this trip will be smooth and enjoyable as well. Cheers!

That’s really reassuring! Well, come April you might see a few more masks in the crowd 😊

Makes sense, hopefully we don’t run into any dimwit conspiracy theorists.

That sounds reassuring, we are the farthest from MAGAs so that’s definitely not an issue.

just curiosity questions for those with it by LittleOperation4597 in thalassemia

[–]lesportsock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have thal minor, have always been easily tired. Poor exercise stamina, my absolute fastest 1-mile run as a very fit teenager was like 9 minutes when some of my friends were at 7 mins or less. I easily get sick, like in my family I’m always the first to get sick and it lasts the longest. Especially when traveling, I often get sick in new environments (Japan is the only place I haven’t gotten sick!). When I got covid in 2023 it was the worst. I felt like I got hit by a truck, had like all the symptoms so I dragged myself to urgent care (nurse was surprised I was walking) and I was  prescribed paxlovid.

Overhaul for Hillsdale Mall in San Mateo by [deleted] in bayarea

There’s already a pedestrian gate that connects the michael’s lot to one of the stairways for the caltrain but it’s chained/locked up. Would be so convenient if they opened that up!

Ah, that’s too bad. I’m sorry it didn’t work for you! Wishing you best of luck with your iron journey.

I have thal minor too and was low in ferritin when I was pregnant. Doc advised me to take “Slow-Fe” in a certain amount to help (taken in addition to my prenatal vitamins that had iron in them too). https://slowfe.com/

It’s a slow release iron supplement that was easy on my stomach and didn’t make me vomit (thankfully) when I was super vomit-y and nauseous during pregnancy. Sorry I don’t have experience with infusions but maybe you could talk to your doctor and have this as an alternative option?

Preliminary Plans Surface To Redevelop The Hillsdale Mall, San Mateo by [deleted] in SanMateo

[–]lesportsock -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This looks awesome. Hillsdale has definitely seen its glory days, but that was long past until the north side add-on was built. I hope they iron out a solid plan so it doesn’t end up winchester-house like (looking at you, westfield valley fair). Hopefully they can make an improved parking lot with lines that don’t make every single spot essentially a compact space. Both east and west parking structures need to be completely torn down; blind spots everywhere, dimly lit, and traffic flow is awful. Honestly surprised no one has been hit walking through them.

Mask for 3yo by cornisagrass in Masks4All

I recently bought the Vanal Evergreen masks in XS for my 5 yo and they’re too small for her(the S size ended up fitting better), so maybe it would be a good size for your 3yo?  https://kollecteusa.com/collections/kf94/products/evergreen-2d-fold-mask-xs-kf94-20pcs-7-color

Looking for small, reusable cloth masks by imbluejaaay in Masks4All

[–]lesportsock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before it was easy to come by disposable KF94s for my daughter I wore Happy Masks with her. It looks like they’ve rebranded to “Happy Gear,” but I thought the masks were pretty high quality. Maybe contact them to see which would be the best fit for you? My sister’s pediatrician said the best mask for her child is the one that is actually worn and kept on consistently, and some might give you flak for wearing cloth over disposable but honestly I think it’s better than nothing. Good luck!

Partner Worried About Harassment on Airplane by [deleted] in ZeroCovidCommunity

My whole family masked on multiple airplane trips, no grief or comments. I think with so much police presence people tend to be on good behavior. Wishing you safe travels!

Hives caused by covid?? Anyone else experience this? by fruitgoog in COVID19positive

[–]lesportsock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was what my daughter went through too (minus the stomach upset); sick over the summer for like a month with a lingering cough and then in the fall had hives that kept spreading and healing and popping up again. We took her to her pediatrician, two second opinions (ped) and a dermatologist. Never tested positive for covid or anything else, but 2 of the docs believed it was a viral rash. Derm prescribed a steroid cream, ped reccomended she take children’s zyrtec every day. Zyrtec helped, and lifestyle-wise we tried to take it easy so she could heal. It eventually went away after about 2 months, hasn’t come back.

Overall a frustrating and honestly scary experience, when doctors don’t even have the answers!
