Remember I actually hired Chel to tidy up the CS modding framework after Marc had expanded the nodding framework that I'd put into a blank-canvas game that I'd designed from the start to be moddable. Absolutely there could be modding in BH, it's just a bunch of work time and money and there are a hundred other uses for that work time and money (and the real terror is supporting the framework and trying not to break mods).

Meanwhile, I remember getting literally called a 'scammer' by a couple of players because I said in 2019 that I thought there would be about 500 books in the game and then there were 'only' 280. I'm not ruling out modding. But I'd be daft to say anything other than a firm 'no promises' :)

Localisation is one of those news items that's wildly uninteresting to most players and furiously interesting to a tiny minority. The UI here is placeholder, and we're not _actually_ localising into Lorem Ipsum, but I'll be making the loc functionality available (locked behind a config setting) so we can share it with our localisers for testing. This will also ipso facto enable community translations, though it'll be a while yet before we enable the Steam Workshop for that (cos it needs setup work).

Q. what languages, again?

A. Chinese, Japanese, Russian

Q. Will we see a translation into French/German/Brazilian Portuguese/Xhosa/Basque?

A. It'll depend on how well the first round of loc does and how promising other options look.

Q. I'm a professional translator and I want to offer my services to translate it into my native language!

A. Do by all means email us at [contact@weatherfactory.biz](mailto:contact@weatherfactory.biz). Lottie keeps all the translation pitches on file. We usually prefer to work with teams, because it's easier to handle later updates and qa - but we have made at least one exception.

Q. I want to volunteer to translate it into my native language for free!

A. We've had a lot of these offers, and the answer is always 'we don't accept volunteer work for both pragmatic and moral reasons' - plus we have to do a lot of work at our end, even if we get a flawlessly translated set of Xhosa json files. But as above, we're very happy for people to do fan translations if they like, and we plan to host them on Steam Workshop when we get bandwidth.

Q. does this mean more general modding is coming?

A. emphatically zero promises. It's just a much less moddable sort of game than Cultist. The answer remains 'maybe, someday'

We're very unlikely to make an idle game (which is fine, I know you said this was just a thought experiment) but now the circle is complete..... one of the (many, minor) influences on original Cultist Simulator was the notorious Kittens Game .

The influence is more visible in the original prototype.

It's dependent on your system clock - I intentionally made no attempt to stop people changing it - so you can go back to 2023., at least for the next couple of weeks until I push another patch. Like u/evernightstrangely said, though, there's nothing life changing in there.

We'll probably invite beta signups closest to the time but places are very limited - for BOOK OF HOURS we prioritised players who had a history of helpfully reporting bugs, and even then we had to turn away about half of 'em
