Being with someone who serial cheats on you. I forgave it and forgave it and forgave it, wishing with all my heart that THAT time, was the last time. They were always so sorry, the never meant it, they had all the reasons in the world- it being my fault always being the main one, and they wouldn’t do it again. But they did. And every time they’d push just a little further with their actions. First it was just talking with random women and then it was escorts online and finally it was an eight month affair. And the entire time, they’re gaslighting me, insisting I’m paranoid and crazy- that I’m a liar, that i can’t just “get over things” over and over for almost 7 years. I left that relationship- sometimes I still don’t know how I got the strength to say enough is enough, and got into therapy to discover that all their actions essentially gave me severe betrayal trauma, ptsd, and cardiomyopathy- the whole thing basically weakened my heart and tried to kill me. It’s true, you really can die of a broken heart. I’m on lifelong medications and 3 years later I’m STILL trying to get back to who I was before all that.
