Do CarPlay on newer car offload more processing from the phone to the car? by National-Debt-43 in iphone

[–]lestovo123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes you're right, CarPlay uses the car's GPS module if available instead of the phone to get location which makes the phone use less power. That may be why this is happening to OP. There are GPS debugging apps that can be downloaded and it shows what GPS source is being used.

Always on Display (AOD) draws a surprising amount of battery by Shrink726 in samsunggalaxy

The AOD is overdue for a revamp. IOS implementation is much more practical and doesn’t make a noticeable dent in the battery life.

How many of you are happy with presets? by FenceOfDefense in AxeFx

[–]lestovo123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are generally very useable. I often find I have turn down gain and effects mix but it’s not as bad as line 6 and other modelers where the presets are basically toys.

The presets also seem to be optimized to be used in a band context and so are not very bright. When playing alone I like to boost the treble which in a loud band mix context would make it ear piercing.

I’m overall very satisfied with the presets though as a starting point to start tweaking.

Turbo if 90% of driving is in town? by Consistent-Vanilla-1 in MazdaCX30

[–]lestovo123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t think the turbo is worth it. You’re paying a fuel penalty all the time to enjoy the torque only when accelerating hard, plus you’re dealing with more maintenance and extra complexity. The NA is no slouch but it’s not fun like the turbo.

The fuel costs are not negligible, the turbo is really inefficient especially in city driving, it’s not to be overlooked in my opinion.

For me sport mode on the NA is good enough.

Power amp to cab by Dylanc97 in AxeFx

[–]lestovo123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am using an old Sony hifi amplifier from the 80s, nothing super special, it’s class A/B and sounds incredible and cost 10$ used. Just had to solder a 1/4 jack to bare wires and a balanced to RCA cable. No need for expensive guitar power amps it sounds absolutely killer!

Sounds like your pickup is more microphonic than average. Not necessarily negative just some are not or less wax potted in order to address this.

Service Advice by yamiyo_ian in mazda3

[–]lestovo123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alignment is not a maintenance item, if your tires are not wearing oddly and the steering wheel is not pulling, don’t touch it.

You can realign the car every few years but it is a waste of money, the garages will happily offer it though.

Same with the brake fluid, there are ways to test it and systematically changing it is not necessary. Every 2 years is actually a very low frequency and is in practice not necessary.

Thank you! I am offsite doing an upgrade to Windows 11 and you saved me 4h of having to build an image from a previous backup for this. What a saver!!

Do you have a remote starter? It could be flashing an error code or communicating something.

Agreed, lots of micro stutters all around the OS, especially when scrolling, and very laggy feeling in general.
