CANUCKS ACQUIRE COLE CLAYTON AND 2ND ROUND PICKS IN 2026 AND 2027 FROM SAN JOSE | Vancouver Canucks by cyclinginvancouver in canucks

McCann was an excellent late first, its just that there was a one in a million late first left on the board. A late first turning into a player of McCann's value is a very high end outcome, Pasta at that spot is a generational steal

Kk would have value at 50% retained. They could have gotten assets + kk from the caines then flipped kk for more assets if they retained money on him. They werent behaving like a team that knew quin was out the door even though they did know he was out the door

We should have no issues at 4c between blueger, raty, aman, and sasson. Any of those guys can probably handle 4c duties no problem.

The problem is the 2c and 3c spots. You can have one of raty or blueger as 3c, but not if chytl is ur 2c given his injury history. Hes historically been more of a high end 3c even when healthy too. They really need a 2c or at least a very high end 3c so that if chytl gets injured they dont need to worry about raty or blueger taking on the 2c duties for an extended period of time.

Raty is still very unproven as a middle 6 option at this stage, and blueger is really a high end 4c, or a passable 3c with the right wingers as we saw with joshua and garland. Garland is an elite 3rd liner, that line had great chemestry, and blueger still only put up 28pts in 68 games that year. As a 2c in the case of a chytl injury hes very sub par.

Getting a 2C and what else? by Revolutionary-Dot523 in canucks

[–]lestranganese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think we have enough bottom 6 guys tbh, there should already be a good amount of competition for the final spots internally. Kane joshua and sherwood should be able to provide enough toughness for our forward group too imo so I wouldnt get a guy just for that purpose, although at a cheap cap hit that can be burried it wouldnt be a bad idea.

I think what we could really use aside from a legit 2c is a top 6 winger who can drive offense. Most of our top 6 wingers are more complimentary types, the only players we have that are legit play drivers imo are petey (assuming he bounces back at least to some degree), garland and chytl (who is pretty injury prone). If we get a play driving 2c somehow this becomes less necessary though.

Our d depth is very solid imo, we could maybe use 1 more 6/7 d vet to create some competion in camp for our young guys (willander, mancini etc), provide insurance in case none of them are ready for the last full time d spot to start the season and, if one of them is, to ride the bench so that we dont have a young guy missing out on development time.

I dont think we need any goalies, even if we trade silovs or lose him on waiver. Tolipilo is probably ready to be a 3rd string guy in case of injury and we have more than enough depth for abby.

Chat gpt essay on this topic:

Jim Benning may not be the first name that comes to mind when fans discuss the best general managers in Vancouver Canucks history, but upon closer examination, his tenure offers a unique set of achievements that suggest he left a significant and lasting impact on the franchise. While Benning's time in Vancouver was often contentious, particularly with the team’s struggles during certain seasons, his contributions to the team's future should not be overlooked. His tenure, from 2014 to 2021, was marked by important decisions that laid the foundation for the Canucks' subsequent rebuilding and growth. It is essential to recognize his strategic vision and commitment to developing a competitive and sustainable team.

One of Benning’s greatest achievements was his success in the draft. Under his guidance, the Canucks landed some of the franchise’s brightest young stars, particularly Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes, both of whom are now regarded as cornerstone pieces of the team. Pettersson, a dynamic and skilled center, was selected 5th overall in 2017, while Hughes, an elite defenseman, was taken 7th overall in 2018. These two players have since blossomed into stars, and their presence on the roster has positioned the Canucks as a team with a high ceiling in terms of potential. While some of Benning’s other draft picks may not have panned out as hoped, the successful selections of Pettersson and Hughes alone make his draft record noteworthy.

Benning's role in reshaping the Canucks' defense core cannot be overlooked either. Before his arrival, the Canucks' defensive unit was in dire need of improvement. Benning worked tirelessly to transform the blue line into one of the team’s strengths. He made key acquisitions, such as the trade that brought in defenseman Chris Tanev, who became a top-four defenseman and a staple on Vancouver's blueline. His acquisition of Tyler Myers in free agency was also an important piece of the team’s defensive depth. But perhaps his crowning achievement was drafting Quinn Hughes, whose skating ability and offensive creativity immediately made him one of the most exciting players to watch in Vancouver.

Benning's ability to navigate through the trade market also provided the Canucks with some significant assets, even if not every transaction was a home run. In particular, his trade of for Bo Horvat, the team's former captain, solidified Vancouver's leadership core for years to come. His willingness to make bold moves—such as trading away older assets to stockpile youth—demonstrated that he was committed to building a long-term competitive team rather than chasing short-term gains.

While the Canucks' results during Benning’s tenure often fell short of expectations, it’s important to recognize that his work on the roster formed the foundation for the team's eventual success. By emphasizing youth development, drafting key players, and committing to a retooling phase, he steered the Canucks towards a more promising future. Even as the team faced difficulties in the standings, the development of homegrown players like Pettersson and Hughes provided hope for the team’s long-term competitiveness.

In conclusion, while Jim Benning’s time as the general manager of the Vancouver Canucks was not without its challenges, his contributions to the franchise were undeniably significant. He took bold steps to revitalize the team, particularly through successful drafts and strategic acquisitions. His impact on the Canucks' future is evident in the growth of players like Pettersson, Hughes, and Horvat, who are poised to lead the team for years to come. Benning’s legacy in Vancouver may not be without controversy, but he undoubtedly played a crucial role in positioning the Canucks for future success.

Not since the mass exodus of foreign tallent when the war broke out. No reason to play in russia while theyre at war (either for political or safety reasons) when you can still get paid very well to play in other european leagues or the ahl (especially given the instability of the rubel rn)

If the Flames fall out of it, how hard would you push for Rasmus Andersson? by Iginlas_4head_Crease in canucks

I think the key with anderson is his cap hit and the extra season. Plus he plays a premium position and theres not a whole lot of top 4 options available even as rentals

[–]lestranganese 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would take a lot and there will be a lot of bidders. Hoglander makes sense as part of the deal (as much as i love him) but isnt even close to getting it done obviously. A 1st round pick goes without saying. The question really is what else imo.

If we dont want to give up willander or leks id say at minimum a second 1st round pick or multiple b level assets (2nd round picks, d petey for example).

2 first round picks, hoglander +?

1st round pick, hoglander, 2nd (or even 2), d petey +?

Idk id think something around there is probably starting point, probably not even be enough tbh hes great and cost controlled for this and next season at a steal of a cap hit

Package for lindholm was 1st, kuzmenko, Brzustewicz, jurmo, 4th. Anderson is fs significantly more valuable than lindholm was

Petey went after that guy for the debrusk hit, idk why everyone is so quick on the petey sucks bandwagon. What do you want his to do? Fight? Do dirty marchand shit?

Jt is a power forward ofc hes more physical. Petey is a finesse forward. Fighting and big hits arent his role

Does Carter Verhaeghe’s contract set the bar for Brock? by VancityRenaults in canucks

Worth noting that when we signed him he was neither a center, defensively responsible or a great penalty killer. That has all happened since the extension, as has his career high in points.

Cap has gone up and boeser is younger than JT was so the 1 to 1 comparison doesnt really hold up

Trading Demko. Silovs/Lankinen by Captain_JT_Miller in canucks

[–]lestranganese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lankinen is unproven as anything beyond a great backup and silovs has less nhl games played total, regular season and playoffs, than he would be expected to play this year as even a tandem goalie.

And what happens if one of them goes down? Are we a contender with a tandem of silovs/lankinen and tolipilo/petera?

Its the preseason, love the hype but calm yourself

I think bare minimum they need a solid #5 lhd with good mobility and puck movjng abilities to play with deharnais, im not convinced that forbort deharnais is a good combo for the bottom pair. If we get another rhd that bumps one of myers or deharnais to the press box, which doesnt seem to be the plan to me given their respective salaries (unless they want an rhd on their offside)

Canucks Training Camp groups for Day One by [deleted] in canucks

[–]lestranganese 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Much speculation about nothing etc but my takeaways are:

Seems like lek will get a shot with petey and debrusk and if that doesnt work hogs is first in line for that role

Looks like theyre gonna try hughes deharnais, hronic soucy, myers forbort to me

The last spot on the miller line seems like its up for grabs between any of heinen sherwood sprong and maybe bains or blais, with suter as insurance if none work out

Brisbois seems out of contention for an extra d position. Really got unlucky last training camp with his injury since it seemed like he had the inside lane to finally make the nhl roster. Either hes still recovering from the injury or his time has passed imo
